Schools out west

Im from PA and im looking to go to college out west. I've looked at Colorado state, Boulder, and U of Utah. Anyone have some in mind or any advice?

CSU is a pretty awesome school. Good partying, great location.

CU Boulder is even better location, but the most expensive of all your options.

The CSU/CU decision is always a funny one. Whenever I'm asked about those two schools I equate it to this: CSU is the craft-beer drinking backcountry skier. CU is the pot smoking snowboarder.

UofU is also amazingly located. More inline with CSU in price, but the skiing and surrounding cost will be more expensive than CO. Also, consider your mormon population. It will only impact you as much as you let it, but it's something you need to keep in mind when you step off campus (i.e. liquor store hours, public surroundings, etc.)

University of Nevada is also something you might consider. That's my alma mater actually. Significantly cheaper than the above options. An argument can be made that it's not on the same level academically as CU Boulder or others, but it has an amazing School of Mines and a very good engineering program. And when you're looking at this collection of schools, it really doesn't matter from a career standpoint. They're all equally respected.

Montana State is also one you should look at. It's a much smaller school, but that could be exactly what you want. Easily the most laid back of the bunch.

If you're willing to pay to learn and live in California, UC Davis is an amazing school and CalState Sacramento is also good. Both are 1.5 - 2 hours from Kirkwood and other Tahoe resorts.

All of the schools I've listed I either toured or have visited while I was going through my application process and after. If you have questions, hit me up.

^ Fuck paying for California Tuition. COme to UNR instead. Half the tuition of most of those Uni you said, and especially Cal schools.

Can't beat Montana State. It's easily the best location for skiing/outdoor activities. 20 minutes from Bridger Bowl, 45-60 minutes from Big sky, Jackson Hole is close enough for a trip on a long weekend.

Also not absolutely fucking packed like Colorado and Utah.

Utah is quite cheap, i guess it depends on where in CO you're talking about, but SLC cost of living is quite low.

Also people need to stop acting like mormons run utah, they don't, this isn't 2005 anymore. Mormons will have zero effect on your life, there are a few silly things you'll have to get used to that aren't unique to just utah, but some find different, ie liquor store closing at 10pm.

Exactly, but I couldn't even tell you how many times I've heard people from out of state complain about it. Same with the beer at the grocery store, its 4% and most light beer (ie bud light, miller lite) is 4.1-4.3% so there is literally no difference between utah beer and a light beer in any state, but people like to complain like all they drink is 8% beer.

Lol mn grocery stores and gas stations only sell 3.2 beer

CO grocery stores only sell 3.2% as well. Gotta go to a liquor store for full strength.

Don't Utah liquor stores close on Sundays?

And in terms of cost, I was speaking more toward the cost of skiing, not living. Sorry for the confusion.

How is the cost of skiing more?

And yes they are closed on sundays, but utah isnt the only state that does that, which is my point here.

MN liquor is closed on Sundays as well. Not that uncommon. Also skiing isn't really that much more expensive, about the same I'd imagine.

Well, depends on what pass he bought.

As for college passes, PC is $399, brighton is $499 im pretty sure, SolBright pass (solitude and brighton) is $1000, alta pass for college is like $599, i think snowbird is the same.

Anyways, adult passes are definitely more expensive, but were talking about college here.

Aaaahhhhhhh. I didn't even consider college pass.

But it looks like you gotta pick one mountain and stick to it. If you don't mind your soul being corrupted you could go with the Epic pass for either CO or Tahoe and get multiple resorts for 600. As opposed to min $1000 for two mountains in UT.

BUT there's no college pass offered by Vail. So it comes to preference.

Vail offers a college PC pass for $399, epic local is like $550 so either get a pc pass or an epic pass.

I always got two passes when I was in college, as did most people, PC and then some cottonwood resort.

dont get the tahoe local pass unless you only like skiing park. Only decent resort on there is kirkwood and that is a massive drive on a powder day. Sugar Bowl/ Squaw pass is where its at.

were you apart of OneLove at the U? I know the ski clubs at some of the schools give you great pass deals and so does the Utah Freeskier Society. Young Adult deals are pretty nice, too. Just picked up my Snowbird pass for $450. Sundance isn't the best but at least getting a pass for like $300 which is rad through UVU.

Washington State University is Rad....Period.

We don't have the best slopes in the state, by far the west side of Washington has better Mountains (Crystal, Stevens Pass, Alpental, Baker) However we still got some Sick smaller scale mountains close by like 49 North, Bluewood, Mt Spokane. Two resorts Mission Ridge and White pass are about the same distance from the east as from the west so that's aight. Additionally we are really fricken close to Idaho, so we have access to Silver Mountain, Schweitzer, Brundage Tamarack, (also Sun Valley and Bogus...if you are down for a loooong ass drive).

Either way we have the most fun Ski Team in the entire US. and that is not an understatement...

WORD

take it easy!

Sierra Nevada College..skiing all over tahoe furthest being kirkwood which is 1.5 hours..or UNR! Don't forget about JAHoe #keeptahoeblue

Super chill..Classes are easy and everyone is super outdoorsy You may be suprised to find teachers and students spending time outside of class and big beach parties if you got the homies. Overall an amazing college for an outstanding fucking debt. Picked up a job at the Incline Village Rec Center so hit ya boy up if ya'll in Tahoe. Drove out from Ohio and I'm amazed by the culture. Everyone is chill with smoking and does not care. RAs told us how to smoke and not get caught..AND EVERYONE SHREDS...Some gnarly kids up here.

Yeah that's how it is here too. Nobody gives a shit if you smoke....it's probably gunna be legal in January anyways. Our RAs would just tell us that we needed to go outside and come back when we don't reek. Also the campus police will give you your weed back the next day if you get caught in the dorms as long as you have a med card hahaha.

There are definitely shredders here. Wait till you get to squaw and see them all riding. Shit is sick. I love following people off stuff and learning from just watching them

There are some good small school also if your interesting in that

Just to throw it in there since small schools don't get a ton of love in these thread.

Colorado College
