i want to start a freestyle team at the high school when i go next year. even if itr doesn't work out it would be good to just get a petition out with all the kids that were interested. i am not talking about just skiing either i mean snowboarding too. so before u guys rip on me lets face it at this moment more people snowboard, so if u had a ski/snowboard slopestle or freestyle team it would be great, i know a lot of people would want to do it. 'extreme sports' is wats the future is looking like soit is time that schools reconize that. tell me wat u think.

 
The idea is good, but do you really need a team to jib? Chances are good that you'd find no other 'teams' to compete against. And you have to take into account the funding as well, is your school prepared to spend enough money for lift tix, or season passes, I doubt it.

u guys r right but we have race teams and ski programs so i think the school might consider it, and plus even if we didn't get a jib team i would be satisfied with moguls i guess.

 
I have been trying to start a ski club at my school for a couple years now. We have over 30 kids who said they participate, yet I need to find a teacher to sponsor the club and every teacher I ask refuses. Any suggestions?

i think its an amazing idea.... my teacher at my highschool is into jibbing and newschool, i talked to her about it and she said she is starting to work on a program for next year, its alotta work though cause it has to be improved by so many differents school boards and shit..... But get in touch with me and i'll tell you if there is any progress

 
ski teams are expensive and require dedicated teachers so its tough to get goin. me and my friends just all join the race team cuz all they do is drive us to the hill and say 'go practise skiing' so we go jib insted.

I am not doing the grabs because I am getting a thrill out of touching my ski-JP Auclair

i wanna start a skiing club at my school too, but i live in NC and if anyone does any snowsport, it's snowboarding, and they are all posers so they think that skiiers are gay. so everytime i have attempted to start it i get laughed at.

 
I have tried this before, and here is why it WON'T work:

1. There is no league to compete in

2. No other schools will compete against you

3. Why waste their money on it

4. There is no league anywhere taht has it.

Start a club tho, that WILL work, we have one of those.

But you could make a club, where the kids pay for thier own lift tickets and chip in 5 dollars for a bus and then you have a bunch of people to chill with at the mountain. That is what I am trying to do and if it works do a couple of overnight trips where the group stays a cheap motel/hotel for a weekend.

i have a club at my school dedicated to skiing. we all go up and build jumps or hit the terrain park, and jib. the founding member (can't say his name) has won a few comps up here in the norhtwest. it's fun,a nd worthwhile, but eveyrone has to fund themselves.

it will never happen if someone doesn't start it. maybe no one is doing it now, but if a few people get something going, then who knows what could happen. i say go for it. there's very little consequence if it doesn't work.

ive tried to get this done too...we have ski club where we go to gore on saturdays but i was thinking just get someone to organize a little thing between your school everyone pays 5-10$ and pick 1-2 events big air prolly

snowboard teams that compete against other schools are popping up where I live, so a freeride ski team wouldn't be that hard to start. But, I'm a senior so i dont care!

 
sweet, a bunch of my buddies and me started a newschool race team, its sick, we race every thing, like down sidewalks an shit, the other day I raced a car down this big hill and I almost won but I fell over when my ski came off.

my school has a ski and snowboard club. its a nice excuse to go skiing in the middle of the week 5 times a winter :)
