Well mine anyways. My highschool holds over 2500 kids through grades 9-12. Its big. Since its so big they have to be strict to maintain control, but today maybe they went to far. Ever since orientation back in grade 9, they stress no cellphones for any reason are to be on school property. Well today one teacher in my friends class took out her palm pilot and searched for all bluetooth devices (searches a 30 ft radius). She picked up 3 or 4 kids signals in class and stripped them of their phones.

How hardcore hitler is that? I couldn't believe it when my buddy sent me a text in class and told me.
 
When they start shoving kids who are 'different' into the high school's ovens, THEN it's pretty hardcore Hitler. Right now, they want kids to learn and not be distracted by cell phones. I don't see a problem with that, being that too many kids nowadays don't even finish high school.
 
what the fuck. That is retarded. My school just tells you to put away your shit. But next time a teacher goes totally anal like in your situation, i'll take out my phone and search for bluetooth and say, what the fuck adminastration, your rules aren't accomplishing anything so maybe they should be thrown away.

It may be harsh, but how is taking something that distracts students away from them, thus making them pay attention (hopefully) not accomplishing something?
 
i really thing that theres no way that i would give up my phone. id just tell the lady i don't have one and she cant do anything about it. like nomensteven said they can't legally search you. i know that my school has the right to search cars and lockers but thats becuase its on the corporations property. but i don't believe they can search you in any way
 
they have to go to the the office, set up an appt. with their vice principle, set up a defined set of detentions, then usually after there completed you get it back. Its nuts.
 
they should have matured, yes. Have they? You tell me the average graduation rate in the US and you'll have your answer.

You're still in school, why shouldn't they make an effort to mature kids who haven't already done so already?
 
dude chill, when you say you friend sent you a message during class, its implied that you have you took your phone out to read it and probably sent him one back
 
if someone took my phone away i would lose it. i would go nuts. and i would be pissed that it happened. How the hell am i suppost to concentrate and pay attention when im pissed my phone just got taken away? I can relate this to happy gilmore when he has to play the club cahmpionship the day after chubbs died. how do you think he felt.

common sense says putting together "he sent me a text" and "... i coudln't believe it" means i had to have my phone out to read it. as i did. i just turned my bluetooth off and went back to work.
 
eh men. school tells you so much bullshit about preparing you for the work force and further education, but actions like what happened totally rebel against methods they try to teach.
 
Well ya, I agree, but I also see their point of 'preventing a problem before it begins' and they, no doubt in my mind, DID prevent SOME problems, even if they took away phones from kids who weren't going to cause trouble as well. So ya, I agree with you that they shouldn't have to mother the kids, but I'm sure that they accomplished at least a little something in the process.
 
thats so gay, schools suck these days badly, teachers/principals are to worried about everything else except actually teaching the kids about the real world, and thus sooo many kids dont do shit with their lives, its obvious, USA's schools suck dick.
 
ya, if you read the thread, you'd notice that it was a Canadian school and you're just another cunt for assuming that because it's bad, it has to be the US.
 
that the thing though mang, since its free, they dont really put effort into making sure our future generations are knowledgeable. you dont learn shit about the real world until you go to college (which costs alot of money).

think about all the other stuff that gets done and you dont have to pay for it. paying taxes is not much compared to what you get out of it.
 
last year, i had my phone on me and i was texting. being the idiot that i am, i was talking about how i forgot herbs in my car. i ended up getting caught with the phone and a few periods later they called me to the office, the dude said "we've gotten reports from several students that you were seen with marijuana in your car this morning". which was real beat.

it was in my glovebox, and they missed it during the search.

yet, they searched the car so hardcore that they took the jack out of the back and searched in there. it was super weird
 
In the United States, students do not have civil rights or any constitutional protections while at school. The supreme court said so, so yeah they can search you, take your shit, throw you in the oven, whatever. It would be such chaos any other way. Your attitude will change about it once you have to pay thousands of dollars to go to class and they dont care one way or another if you show up or not.
 
a kid in my chem class had to leave early for like a funeral or something and his mom was to call him when he was supposed to leave, so he told the teacher his mom just called and she took his phone and gave him detention for having it on. beat

when ever a teacher tries to take my phone, i pull off the battery real quick cuz the student services people always look at everything on your phone
 
my phone wnet off today in math, my teacher just ignored it. guess i got lucky.. o yeah the tune was "this old man," you know: this old man he played one he played knick knack on his bone with a knick knack patti wack give a dog a bone this old amn went rolling home... yeah, you know what im talking about

Before I begin, I didn't read any posts above.

1st off, they shouldn't have any of that shit in school, especially if they are so strict about it. You're at school to get an education, not to know who timmy cheated on stacey with. Is it fair she did that? no, but life isnt fair. 2nd, there is too many people with cellphones these days, I see girls all the time texting in their purses pretending to be looking for somthing, its rediculous, if you really dont give a shit about your education then stop going to school and be a bum working at fucking joes autoshop.
 
haha thats dumb at my school during class , you here that stupid nosie the phones make when you trun them on , like at lest 3 or 4 times . the tearchers are like trun the valume down . there is this one kid who video tapes everythign and she sits there videotaping stuff during class .
 
hahah your school is like mine theres not that many kids tho i dont think its still big tho but tehy are way to strict on everything like my 6 time being late to school i got suspended but then they made it in house suspension cus htey think i was late on purpose then i was late again and they gave me work crew which is staying after school and doing work with the janitor butim not doing that shit they can blow me, and my stupid ass bitch of a councelour always sends the truency officer to my house and like gives me interventions cus he thinks im a druggie and i always get searched lately its ridiculous they havent EVER found anything on me
 
I dont know if anyone said this yet but they dont take cell phones because they distract you, well maybe that too but its mostly so you dont call people from out of school to come in. Like for fights or drugs or anything gang related. I'm sure distraction too but my school is big on non gangs and they explain the real reasons behind rules. Like no hats, besides its disrespectful to wear hat inside, theres been school fights before where people stash box cutters and blades in hats. You can say its stupid or dumb but school needs to be safe. I usually text alot when i'm bored in school, but its not something i care to much about, its a girl thing.

by the way i figured out school was prision the 3rd day of highschool, the first 2 days the teachers are nice as shit, then they all become a pain in the ass, with exceptions of those few teachers who are chill.
 
when teachers tell me to do things I politley explain to them that I will only ever do that for someone that I respect. Pisses them off so bad, but they can't do anything because your being polite and not breaking any rules. its great.
