Scary skiing story

so my dads friends son-in-law got in a skiing accident a few weeks back at mt snow. he was skiing along on the side of a trail, and all of a sudden he just disapeared. He had a friend with him that was just behind him and said he had no idea what happened, all of a sudden he just couldnt be seen. What happened was he was right on the side of the trail close to trees when all of a sudden the snow i guess just broke away and he fell down into the trees. He hit a tree so hard the bottom half of his leg went thru his knee and into the top half of his leg. He almost bled to death and doctors say if his friend happened to be infront of him then he would have died because it would have taken a while just to find him and he was lucky enough as it is. He had to be airlifted to the nearest hospital.

So now asif thats bad enough, missing more then half of one leg, well he doesnt have insurance. The helicopter alone cost $8000 and he had 3 surgeries. So yeah they are gonna be in a little debt for a while. My dad told me this wen i was eating dinner tonight, just wanted to share this story so all of you think about how lucky we are to be able to ski and how quickly and dramatically our lives could change

oh yeah and this guy was a ski instructor, so its not like he was a newb skiier skiing somthin outa his ability, just huge bad luck and now his life is totally changed. although he does have a good atitude still. he told my dads friend that hel be out next year skiing but of coarse it wont be the same and hel be learning more then anything

so wait, im confused. where was he? im assuming someplace big, becuase from what it sounds like, trees were buried, which allowed the snow to give out under him? how far did he fall, cuz unless you fall a looong as way, your leg will not fracture like that, it take A LOT of pressure for your knee to collapse like that. that is scary tho, and my condolences, dont take this as me challenging you, i believe you completely, i was just curious as to how this could happen.

i dont think that was very far, and there wernt trees under him, some snow jsut gaveway and i think maybe some ice or somthin was underneath and he slid into a tree

sucks...but it is pretty dam stupid to be a ski instructor and not have health insurance...I have been there, major injury and no coverage, just not worth it

damn, that sucks.

i always find it incredible at how dangerous skiing can potentially be. Whenever i'm on skis, i feel like nothing bad can happen.
