If anyone is interested in checking it out and your in the Colorado area feel free to PM me. I'm working on getting up to Breck for a week of shooting to do some tests pretty soon. I'll also be around the Denver area shooting some tests this week as well.

I'm in Colorado Springs mostly due to family happenings but if you are interested in seeing it and shooting a couple shots feel free to hit me up and I'll give those interested an update of where I'll be shooting at if you want to meet up.

Not sure if this is of interest either but I'll be posting .r3d files on RedUser.net so that others can play with them, if you'd like me to post them here as well to give them a run in RCX or PP let me know and I'll post them up.

Yes, that was the one that shipped first. I'm also getting the AllStar PL mount since it's a little cheaper than RED's.

It took alot of saving, work and a broken hip. Its something i've wanted for 4 years. Did everything I could to get there. Anyone can do the same.

Sounds good. I plan on being in the downtown Denver area on Thursday or Friday right now. I haven't made it final at this point yet.

will do! I'll post some shots on here when I get it. Let me know if you guys want anything in particular.

Ie 5k TL or Stills, 4K 24-30fps, 3K HDRX and up to 48fps, 2K up to 60fps, lowlight, either or.

No most of it was saved in the last year. I had things come up in the last 4 years that forced me to spend the money. I had money from being injured, selling my 7D kit, and working way to many hours all summer.

you and others would be surprised how cumbersome and frustrating red footage can be... I feel like until you work with a red you think its as easy as your t2i. If i had to choose between a red and some other easier post-workflow camera, i would likely choose to latter, reds are such a pain IMO.

More than likely unless some want .r3d's.

If you want .r3d's I don't mind giving a simple breakdown on RCX and the post process if going to FCP or you don't want to work with 4K footage.

If you have cs5.5 your ready to go and can drop in a .r3d shot.

Eheath is right, it can be a pain, it takes awhile to get it in ProRes but you get a much much sharper image when going from 4K to 2K. Not that it isn't sharp. It's something you decide to take on. And I find it to be worth it. JVC announced there 4K camcorder today, while the recording method is a bit odd, and I'm not a big fan it shows that alot of the post process' will be changing away from FCP 7 sooner than later with no support for anything larger than 2K. If you choose to shoot in 4K that is.

I'll also be doing some lens tests, and should beable to get along side an Epic here pretty soon as well and we're going to be shooting both to show the sensors are the same, but still doing tests. If JVC is launching a 4K camera, I'd guess that Sony, Canon and Panasonic won't be far behind.

I'll be shooting the Tokina 11-16, Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon 24-70 2.8L, and the Canon 70-200 2.8L IS II. I'm looking at prime options right now and am probably going with PL. I'll hopefully be putting some PL glass on there when testing with the Epic owners.

only way I could think of expressing my feelings towards jeff and this thread:

haha that's great.

I truly do want to give people the opportunity to use it if I'm around. Learning is the best thing about life. Sharing the opportunity to let others learn is even better. When I was 18 someone gave me the chance to get my hands on a camera that was impressive (at that time FX1) "my age is showing", and a NLE system that I really learned a ton from.

Obviously I won't let it go off jumps as a follow cam...yet anyways, but i'm open to letting eager filmers get there hands on it to open them up to something that is an incredible door to more knowledge and experience in something we all love...

truth. i was really surprised the first time somebody let me handle a RED, but when you consider they're built like a tank, it isn't that crazy at all and is an awesome thing to let kids do.

I'll post pictures tomorrow of the starting setup (i'm missing my Sidehandle still).

I'm hoping there is a somewhat good amount of snow as I'd like to get some shots of Garden of the Gods with snow on Pikes Peak. I'll share a .r3d as soon as I get back.

I might be in Seattle at some point, haven't had anything go through as far as Portland yet.

Whistler isn't really on the radar either unfortunately.

^^^ i would have been getting chills down my spine unboxing that thing. you deserved man. cant wait to see some footage.

Thanks!

It was surreal opening it. I can't even describe it. Holding it kind of made me lose my breath for a second. It's something else.

So far I found the 24-70 to be insanely soft when shooting at 2K. I'm going to be in Breck/Key next week shooting with my friends that own SlopeStyle. If anyone is in summit please PM me and I'll try and get your hands on it as well.

Dude you're so generous, if it was me I'd probably put it in a bulletproof case! As others said you really did deserve it! Grats you have one of the best cameras around EVER

Hehe I giggled at the fold up chair in the background and the expensive camera on the table. I think we're all guilty of this...

I snapped it at my moms house actually haha. It's a makeshift table while she's having the dining room in her house re-done.

I have things shipped there usually. I've had issues with Fedex in my location.

It controls everything electronically about the lens. I'm still waiting for my sidehandle so the only autofocus function I have at this point is touch which takes some playing around with. I won't be using autofocus either way though.

Any tests anyone wants to see? I might be trying a lowlight cliche cigar test tonight.

Low light, 5K timelapses, and varying frame rates of all sizes being shot tomorrow in Downtown Denver. If anyone in here is in Denver PM me I'll inform you of our whereabouts.

Just an update, tomorrow I'll be shooting comparisons between the Scarlet and Epic other than frame rates of course. Mostly low light and compression ratios.

Here is a screengrab from some footage tonight. Only adjustment was adding Alchemy.

The camera does amazingly well in lowlight.

one question... does the sensor go into a crop mode for 1080p? or does it just sample for the whole sensor?

It crops to prevent downsampling. It's more like using a 16mm sized sensor.

I personally won't shoot below 3K very often.
