Sure, the world may seem totally intertwined, but it's not that simple when you consider every type of connection.
Sure we are connected enough to receive a photograph or a story from Ethiopia, a cloud from the middle of the Pacific ocean, or a plane full of passengers from Europe. However, it's near impossible for our connections to transfer enough food to feed an entire country, bring the Eiffel Tower to NYC, or bring all of the sand from the Sahara desert to my back yard. Of course, it would be possible to take the Eiffel Tower apart and ship it, or send the Sahara to me boat by boat, but those tasks would be costly and impractical, and the same applies to feeding Ethiopians with our bagels.
I may have gone wayyyy overboard with these analogies, but I'm trying to make a point.
