Ive been looking for a new pair of skis for some time now, getting all the ins and outs. But never did i think i would come apon such a discovery.

INLINE AND DECK SKIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Before yesterday, i was under the impression that going to buy skis was sumwhat stright forward. You look at the specs, you read the reviews and you deside. But yesterday i walking into a sporting life and have a fairly long talk with an old sales guy. Now some where during the conversation he mentioned INLINE SKIS to me. Now i said what are inline skis.

To my descust he informed me that at sporting life the skis you buy are somthing called an INLINE ski this is a ski that you will see in a SKI MAG and will work the way it is supposto.

Then he descirbed to me DECK SKIS. You see a Deck ski (according to him) is the same skis you see in the SKI MAG. It looks the same it may even flex the same. The diffrence is that insead of it being say the 10.0 it will say the 10.5. What is the diffence you ask, The 10.0 is the one they show in Ski MAGs which are the same ones the pros use. The 10.5s are the same except they have been modifyed by using cheaper materials. Its like buying stake knives. You can buy a $500 knife or you can buy a $5 knife. Now the two knives may look and feel the same. But the one knife will get sharper and stay sharper, while the other one will never be as sharp and will need more amntance due to the cheaper materials. So will the skis all thought the 10.5 may look and feel the same, its edges may be made out of chinese news paper and apple cores while the 10,0 are solid aloys.

Now to us the consumer the price diffrence may only be 20 - 100 dollars. But when Dush bags like Forzani (owners of SPORT CHECK, SPORT MART, FITNESS SOURCE .,, ) go and but their shipment of a million 10,5s the margen is much greater.

So at the end of the day what SPORT CHECK AND others are doing is chaging you 50 bux less so they can make millions. And who loses in the end, Its you, the one stuck with horrible flex patterns, falty bases, edges that dont shapen and so on.

JUSt thought i would see if any one else has heard about the or has anything to say about the matter

If your asking why i wrote this its because i want to see if any one knows how to spot a shit pair. and if thats not what you were asking

then be more spacific, im not a fing mind reader ya know

im confused are you saying that companies make two versions of the same ski and give stores the option to buy a good and a crappy one for differnt prices? cause if thats what your saying i think you may be wrong....

Man i hope im wrong. but this guy at the skis shop end had a term he used fo them (Inline and deck skis)

and yes what i am saying is.

a company like Atomic or K2 will take thier pro model racing ski that real skis shops sell for $1000, and they make for 400. Take that mold and designe and make it for $200 and sport check will sell it for 850 instead of 1000

now if he is wrong this is good, but he seemed to know alot about skis just like me, the only thing i learned for the guy was this concept of INLINE AND DECK SKIS... and man did it rock my world

yo this is actually true to some degree. For example, the Salomon 420 a few years ago. It looked like a 1080 (the silver ones), but was made specifically to be sold in stores like Sportcheck or Big 5. Seriously.

However, I'm pretty sure this practice is NOT prevalent with twin-tip companies. I think it's probably mainly beginner to intermediate level recreational skis (carvers, cheap race skis) where you would see this.

This is the truth plain and simple. Does not really apply.

This is only done really for specific models sold to big box stores to pump out cheaper skis.

who did you talk to? doug is probably the most legit guy there. he spilled the beans on a couple things to me as well.

this is the first ive heard of this in the ski industry but i know it to be true in paintball. Big companies want better prices and there is one simple answer the product companies downgrade the core of the product for companies who buy their product on a lage scale ,witch suposively makes no differnce when we all no that is a load of crap.

The only companies who do this are really only k2 and salomon, rossi maybe.

Its really only big box stores. The models that they sell them are actually not available for purchase by specialty shops. This is no secret in the industry.

Armada did it repressing new grphics onto old models...

K2 does it

Salomon does it

Yes, its very common and has been going on for years. However, it only affects you if you purchase from a box store or eBay. And if you do buy from there, then I have no remorse for you because you should be supporting core shops and not venues that only seek to cash in on you.

Can you tell I'm a tad bitter that sales are down?

so....say I bought a pair of line anthems for a really good deal like....brand new for $200 .. not in a ski shop.....do I have to worry?

i think you didnt read the post from iberg recently that said armada always pressed their own skis, and i think we can trust him.

Rossi does this with with their scratchs, or atleast did. I see no problem in this as they do say that it doesn't use the same technology as the other models.

if that is true then I also completely agree. it also mean you have nothing to worry about. plus, this is america, if they didn't differentiate between the two types, someone would sue. duh.

and like everyone has said. go to core shops. aside from my ehp's i got of td and my ott's, everything I have has come from Porters. most legit shop I have ever been too.

none of this makes sense to me. why would a company come up with a design they like so much that they put it on the market, then, turn around and change all the material they used in that origanal ski, completely changing the design, feel, and so forth. im under the impression that company's make lower end products for this reason. it helps them offset costs by using the same designs of there nicer shit( but sometimes this cant apply to things like fat ski's, unless a company has more then one model of same relative shape) and use the cheaper materials to put out cheaper products. ever wonder why cheaper shit breaks easier?

this is just a theory i have about how multiple things come out on a prody line. but i could just be blowin it out my ass....

if u cant understand( cuz my point could be a little confusing) then ill try to re-elaborate myself so i dont sound like a jackass.

If you want anyone to take your opinions/statements even semi-seriously you need to you spell check and proof read your posts. Maybe even have someone else proof read it. That was painful to read and destroys my confidence in our public education system.

I'll clear this up. Its no Scandle.

Every ski brand out there trys to build skis to suit everyone. If you look at the big box stores, Sport Check, The Sports Authority, Dicks, ect, they carry products that are exclusive to them. These are SMU skis, or "special make up."

SMU skis very depending on application. Sometimes there logoed with a mountains logo, sometimes there used for a rental fleet, sometimes there built with alternitive materails to keep the cost down. 9 times out of 10 when you walk into a big box store, your going to see some of this type of product. (big box stores do carry in-line product as well) The customers that shop at these stores are generally looking for a good deal. Think about it, Joe Shmo who skis 5 times a year is looking for a deal on skis, and is not as particular about his product, he shops at a big box store. But Billy-jibs-alot knows exacly what he wants, and shops from a core shop.

Now, its nothing to worry about and its no trick. Your not going to walk into one of these stores and buy a knocked off S4 Squindo. Your going to see a completely differant ski, cap construction, twin tip with system bindings, called the avvallon or blast or some shit.

Its simple, we build skis at every pricepoint from $299 to $1299. Obviously the higher end shit is way better, better build, better bindings, better cores, new technoligy. Its like the automobile industry, they have KIA's and they have BMW's. Theres a differance, but in the end they both drive down the road. But then again, BMW's are way easier to pick up chicks in...

Its no scandle, its just business.
