That's partly why we have so many problems in this country, because the majority of our citizens care more about who's getting voted off Survivor or who the Desperate Housewives are fucking then who is running their government.

There were almost 4,000 Iraq civilians killed in October alone. And that is a low estimate. Yes, I would have to agree that Sadamm was evil and should have been removed, even though we put him in power in the first place. But we went about it in a terribly ineffecient way that is costing lives, money, and the stability of the Middle East.

The reason why gas prices keep going up is becuase of the lack of oil we have on our planet. We use more than there is, which is another reason why the gas prices are going up. Not because BUSH IS OUR PRESIDENT!!! No matter who our president is at this time gas prices would be just as high. If the man who says he invented the interent (al gore) was pres. there would be no difference in gas prices. Nad if u tihnk we get most of our oil from the middle east, ur totally wrong. we get just under 20% of our oil from there

You have a bit of a point there, but not totally right. Yes, if we had another president then gas would still be high. But not as high as they are now. And yes, we don't get all of our oil from the Middle East. But, there are other places that we get oil from that Bush has negatively affected. Venzuela is one example, ruled by Hugo Chavez, who happens to think our president is the devil and causes all sorts of instability in the region, which drives prices up. The Iraq war has also cut off some oil supply. Not a vast majority of it, but a significant enough amount that if Bush didn't go there, gas would not be as high
 
I wasn't trying to make a call for apathy; I was simply trying to diminish an argument that was clearly cyclical and was not producing anything but garbage. It is an argument such as this one that leads not to an educated public (which you pointed out is very important, and I agree) but to an embittered and disunified public. The loss of unification is a result of the spewing of ideas that are stated not out of logical reasoning, but out of a desire to immediately shut up the opponent.

My motivation for trying to get kids to shut up was not as nefarious as you may have thought; I'm just tired of hearing baseless, useless, and bitter argument amongst a public too busy arguing and not busy enough educating themselves.

all right those ppl earlier called me a fag simply because they are probably ignorant and couldnt think of a better come back. I start a debate, people can call it dumb or whats the point, but i think it was good since it already made it to a third page. People keep flaming me and i still havent even stated my own opinion yet, so how can ppl say i dont agree with them, alls i did was post a politcal cartoon. I feel its not in my state to post a educated opinion about politics because i am uniformed and i dont even vote yet, i'm 17. However i do agree with some republican aspects, and i agree with some democratic aspects. For example i am agianst gay rights and i'm pro life for personal religious reasons, if you disagree thats your opinion. I am for the war because who knows what those bastards are capable of over there, they cant even run a country so i feel they needed a little guidence which did backfire, so i think we should get the hell out of there. A country that was supplying us oil, hates us and one time was thought of holding nuclear weapons. I dont know about you but that scares the shit of out me, so we needed to jump in and be the world police like the U.S. feels like they should be. Of course my opinions arent to in depth, but i dont feel like watching the news 24/7, i am a fucking high school senior who has better things to do. Unlike some other people, i can back up the reasons i have stated, they're not to deep because they are coming from my personal feelings, not the medias.

Unlike everybody else i am open to other peoples ideas, that is why i started this debate and just now, on the 100 and something post, i state my opinion. So whoever actually reads this shoud see that i have done nothing wrong besides listen to other people and ask why they feel that way. I never said i didnt respect they're opinions.

Umm the United states supplies oil and has possession of nuclear war heads...shouldnt you be more afraid of the United States seeing as there where ZERO WMD's found in iraq? There was no legitimate reason to enter Iraq except for OIL and a little something called Halliburton. Over 2,000 lives in exchange for a war that has gone 4 years longer than promised and the only thing we have accomplished is capturing a dictator and leaving the country in ruin? Throughout my years on this earth I have been fortunate enough to have my basic necessities taken care of; food, shelter, water, etc. This freedom has given me the ability to further the power of my brain in school and independently. And after all this "learning" I have accomplished I have come to several conclusions about politics.

* Each side is passionate for whatever reason. They got as far as they did because people like them or much more likely they are rich ass holes.

* America is completely polarized between liberal and conservative views. The sad part is that neither side knows what the fuck they are talking about and pretty much just recite what they have heard from parents, media, and friends.

* 99-99.5% of people on NS are 14 year old pricks from back east who rarely, if ever, offer any insight and lack basic debate, spelling, grammar, hygiene, relationship management, etc skills.

* That being said go read some books, go experience politics, go learn because right now your opinion is worth about as much as your dignity.

I would vote democrat, and I agree with it. All of their decisions are based on the "feelings" of everybody else, they dont really have a position on anything.

I vote for them because I would rather vote for a party without a position, than a party who has a position i disagree with.

if people want to know how bush lies/bends the truth you dont only have to look at Iraq, he's been lying to our face for a while about the economy. the economy is up? only for richest 10 percent of the U.S.

he claims stats support his claims, unfortunately his stats are tainted. one of the first things bush did as president was tell the treasury dept. to stop making estimates of how tax benefits were distributed based on income. y'know why? cause all the benefits are going to the rich! unless you're planning on moving to a different country, the decisions bush has made the last few years will affect our entire lives.
