Saved a Life...

I'm just curious, how many NSers can say they truely feel they have saved someones life? Feel free to share stories or whatever.

I know in the last year there were two people who I feel may not be here today if I wasn't there for them. One was when my friend passed out on the Peak at Crested Butte and she was totally unresponsive. The other was my friend who tried to kill herself and she pretty much told me if I hadn't been there for her she would have tried it again. Me and my buddy were talking about saving lives and I just was curious to hear some peoples stories.

in first grade my friend crossed the street without looking and would of gotten drilled by a car if i didnt pull him back, but the next week i was walking in his house and fell down a ridiculously steep flight of stairs in his garage and he caught me before i reached the bottom and would have landed in his cats litter box, so we call it even

i don't recall ever saving a human life but my neighbors have this crazy cat and i've rescued easily ten chipmunks/small birds/moles from it

i almost just killed a small bird. it got in my house and thank god my mom wasn't home so i didn't have to get it out of the house.

it got its head stuck in the door where it hinges with the wall, so if I shut it it would have decapitated the bird. I was about to do it cause just the other day I had to spend 2 hours lifting couches and bookshelves up trying to get a stupid chipmunk out of my house cause my mom loves animals and wouldn't let the cat kill the cute lilttle bastard.

instead I called my dog. hes a setter and killed it in 2 seconds.

I've saved my cousin a couple times. Once he was walking on ice and fell through and me and my friend pulled him out then another time he was sledding down my front yard and didn't see a car coming and I jumped in front of the car and pulled him out of the way and the sled was destroyed. I got clipped by the car and if I was 1/10 of a second slower I would no longer have legs.

I found a girl in a field passed out tried to get her to talk and wake up finally we carried her like half mile to the road and called the cops she had a bac of 0.3

Ummmm, I'm a lifeguard, but I haven't had to save anyone. I don't think I have. Damn, I gotta get some good stories.

theres this brook in the middle of the woods where a lot of people go cliff jumping in my town and theres a little beach in there too where families chill out. one time i was walking back and there was a family fishing off of a pretty big rock on the backside of a little waterfall. as i was walking back i see the little daughter slip off the rock into the the waterfall and is trapped underneath this big rock they were sitting on fishing. the mother proceeded to try and get her little girl out and fell in too to the same fate. the dad was just sitting there freaking out not doing anything about it so i ran down jumped in and saved these two peoples lives.

pretty much one of the coolest things i've ever done to date.

haha that's how me and my buddy started talking about this... he's a life guard and i'm a ski patroller and I was saying how i actually have to help people all the time and the most he's done is given someone a bandaid haha...

i dont know if he really would have done it, but a kid i know from school called me up at like 3 in the morning and was telling me how shitty life was and how he wanted to kill himself, but i just tried to soothe him and relate, and then by the end of the morning he was like alright i feel a lot better thanks a lot man. so idk if he was just venting or not, but better safe than sorry

my black friend was on a rolly chair going down a hill that ends in an intersection, so when he came to the intersection he wasn't looking for any cars and one would've hit him if I wasn't there to takle him off of the chair right before the inersection

I've saved my dog's life twice. First time he fell through ice and i crawled out to him, the second time he jumped into the same pond and got tangled in seaweed. I jumped in and pulled him out.

Im also an EMT...so it kinda comes with the job.

Someone got in a car accident and swallowed her tongue, i pulled it back out

At the mountain as ski patrol someone broke their femur, went into convulsions and caused massive internal bleeding. Put on a traction splint and got them into a helicopter (with help)

i saved a dragon fly today, he was drowning in the water. and i saved a toads life the other day, it was stuck in a like window ditch place.... i always feel good after doing those things hahaha

ive saved a bunch of kids because im like a teenage psychologist so a couple suicidal people ive talked through also two of my friends were trashed and went swimming and i had to bring them on shore or else they woulda died

I was sailing with my buddies one time, and on another boat there were these two twins named Hans and Klaus. They got to arguing about something, and weren't paying attention when their boat capsized. They didn't really know what they were doing, so Klaus sat on the top of the flipped boat while Hans was trapped beneath. I jumped in and flipped the boat, thus rescuing Hans from a horrible fate, and Klaus was ok too. Their mom thanked me later, it was pretty cool.

err no?

its funny because it was completely irrelevant to the his story. I though the way he threw it in there was a little ridiculous.

I changed an old lady's tyre once

no i didn't save her life - but i probably saved the day!

i was on a raft with some kid once and she fell in and got stuck under the raft and i jumped in and saved her, i saved a butterfly at a garden from someone stepping on it, i pulled my friend out of the way of a car as he proceeded to chase a frisbee across the street

when i was younger i saved my best friend from drowning because somehow he got all tangled in one of those pool basketball things and he was in the awkwardest/ least swim friendly positions just flopping in the water

I saved about 5 very bad swimmers from drowning in surf, i just stick them on the board, lay on top of them and belly surf in. No one has ever thanked me.

My hero!

I saved my daughters life once. When she was 6 months old, her dad have given her a cheeto, which ended up getting lodged in her throat. When she started gasping for air, I grabber her, and turned her over, put her chest to my palm, facing downward, and tried to unlodge it with some forceful pats to the back. When that wasn't working, I turned her back over and did a finger swipe with my pinky. It worked. It's funny when your reactions happens like that. I didn't even think, just did. Thank god it worked.

that must feel pretty bad. but if its any consolation (or a reminder of how tough life is i guess), only 6% of people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

i work as an ER tech, volunteer EMT, and critical care CNA, so the line is blurry with me. im almost never alone with sick people so i cant really take credit like that, and i also have education a license and a legal responsibility to act. so that takes all the fun out of "saving someone". However, i do cpr about 1-5 times a day at work. And ive seen many make it. most dont though. Kids, adults, family men, mothers, elderly, chronically ill, retired firefighters, doctors, etc etc. If you get to the point where you need cpr, most of the time you are dead when they start pumping your chest.

Other than that though i dont have any cool stories of pulling friends away from cars and stuff.

i pulled a baby out of the bottom of the shallow end of a pool..i think someone else would have noticed eventually but i was pretty quick to it.

my dad saved my life

my brother fell into the ocean and almost went under the boat toward the propellers and i jumped in and pulled him out.

i have never saved anyones lives but i have saved friends from car accidents by grabbing the wheel or yelling for them to move... but my bro saved my life when i fell off the back of our boat and was drowning

when i was younger i saved my friend wen we were in a hot tub at the beach alone (being around 8 yrs old or so) and he went under the water and his hair got caught in a sucker thing and i pull his head up

oh i saved my own life also, when i was 5 i was skiing at the glacier 3000 in switzerland and they have a lot of cliffs on the trail where if you fuck up you can ski off a cliff so i was following my grandpa and i jumped a cat track and there was a cliff right on the other side so my grandpa pulled it together in the air and landed right on the edge and then i went after him not knowing what happened and i jumped and was totally out of control but according to my parents i did a 90 in the air and landed in a stopped position. they said if i had gone straight i would've gone right off a huge cliff and died, my dad said it was the most scared he's ever been and that he almost passed out

When my brother was about two and a half he had long blonde curly hair that went past his ass. We had a 5-gallon bucket in the round pen filled with water for our horses. My little bro decided he wanted to put the sidewalk chalk at the bottom of the bucket. Me and my mom were at another part of the property working with my horse or something, and my mom turns around and says, "Where's Bear?" So we go all the way around the property, and I go behind the other barn. I scream to my mom that Bear is stuck in the bucket so my mom screams at me to pull him out. Here's when the story gets kind of funny. So I pull Bear out of the bucket by his long golden locks - he starts taking swings at me as I am still holding him by his hair. The stubborn little kid didn't understand that I saved his little life.

But I'm more of an animal life saver. That's how I get most of my dogs and cats.

I was on Vacation in Mexico and while some guy was out swimming he got pulled in by a powerful undertow and he wasn't a good swimmer. I'm a good swimmer and have been swimming ever since i can remember so i went out and pulled him to shore. I feel he couldve drowned without me

not totally sure if i would have saved this girls life or not.... but she would have been atleast in a lot of pain. we were at a party up at our ski hill after season, small local hill so they owners daughter was throwing it, and my friend ended up getting drunk, well... how girls that dont drink often, she was that kind of drunk. and we were getting to the car, and she went walking off for a minute nobody really noticed, then we saw her like twenty yards away walking on the other side of the parking lot. which is right next to a cliff/steep hill, and i ran over and grabbed her shirt and ripped her back away from the drop off. seemed like to me she was about to walk off and not even notice. pretty scary, and to this day she still never thanked me. :(

I once tackled somebody who pointed a loaded gun at my friends head while my friend had his back turned. I don't know whether he would have pulled the trigger or not, so I don't feel I can justify saying I saved his life, but I am still proud of what I did.

A surgeon once saved my life, when I had a blood clot that had formed in my leg come within 13 inches of my heart. I thanked him for it.
