do rails destroy your skis??? if so what can i do to save them? i wanna grind, but i have no money for new skis if i screw up me current ones

 
yes, sliding rails does screw up your edges. So, if you want to keep them in good shape then i suggest you tune them a lot during the season. not like a full ski tune, but just like do your edges under the boot where they need it.

Sharp edges are for lazy turners...or racers.

You dont need sharp edges to hold an edge on hard pack.

I pretty much rounded the edges off my old 1080's and they held fine on everything except boiler plate ice. you just have to be more aggresive.

 
just grind on stuff softer then yur edges. u wont find alot of rails at resorts like this, but PVC and softer metal tubing wont hurt you skis. you may need to tune them after along rail session (the bases) but thats not hard

 
rails destroy your skis. there is nothing you can do about it. your skis are going to get fucked up and eventually explode from sliding rails.

Having sharp edges can be a BIG asset if riding an icy pipe. If you ski an icy pipe in the winter i would try to lay off the rails with your good skis. This requires a lot of commitment. Get some cheap pieces of garbage and beat the crap outta them on the rails.

oh well i ruined my Pow Airs more by doing a day of rails, now i am getting Stomps and using my pow airs just for rails

funk that, i was riding icy pipe with three dull edges, and no edge on one of my skis, and i did it well enough, you just need to try harder

Resharpening you edges wont do much, once they get bevelled more than a certain angle (which happens after sliding a metal rail like 20 times), they cant be saved.

I ride pipe all the time with no edges under foot on either ski, and no edge on the front half of one, and the tail of the other... and all the rest is dull.

I have no problem riding pipe. just set up earlier. I am also living in whistler where the pipe isn't exactly icey, but still - I have no edges at all, and I ride pipe all the time. it doesn't make that big of a difference.

man, sharpining your edges makes such a difference, i can't stand having dull edges, it makes so much difference and it takes only about 10 min to do. Longer if you don't do it regularly
