Sauder requirements

just wondering what some of you guys who got into Sauder had for grades and extra curriculars, just thinking about what i need for next year.

i goto ubc, but i'm not in sauder, i have a couple buds who are in it, they took eng 12 plus 3 provincially examinable courses, the avg last year was about 85% to get in plus the personal profile. they expect you to have a ton of volenteer hours, you could have a 90 avg, but if your profile sucks, they may not let you in. my buddy had that problem, he had a 95 and talked to an adviser there and he had to haul ass and do a ton of volenteering to "make the cut".

I got accepted in to Sauder last year, but ultimately didn't accept it because I was refused housing.

My average was around 90%.

As for the requirements, you're going to need Math 12 no questions asked. English 12 is needed, along with the LPI.

As for the other courses to take, they recommend taking 1-2 Science 12 classes.

It might sound lame, but Calculus 12 is also a very important class. You can make due without it, but I'm taking an Economics based Calc class this term, and if it wasn't for my previous knowledge in the class I would be tanking.

As for the supplemental stuff, I just played on sports teams from grade 8 - 12. I played some instruments and worked at a few different jobs. I also did some volunteer work at some ski swaps.

The supplemental application is really really important. Choose your references carefully.

I'll probably be transferring there next year if my housing gets approved this time around, since I need some of the specific second and third year classes they offer.

Good luck!

im in sauder this year i had like an 86 average which is important but to be honest its all in the supplemental take your time and make it meaningful and youll have a better chance of getting in than if you just did tons of service hours or something. take a look at the program aswell because its what i thought i wanted to do but it wasnt i left after first term. but still try because if you dont like it its easier to get out then to get in

i am gonna be a counselour at outdoor school for a couple weeks, then i coach wakeboarding for about 6 days in the summer but i dont have much sports that i can actually prove i do, i might go to wakeboard comps this year or somthing, would that be enough or should i be adding some more things

I graduated from Sauder Finance in may 2008 and now work as a derivatives analyst.
While it is nice to get into the Sauder program in first year, honestly, I don't think the quality of education is any better than what you would get at Langara/Kwantlen/Capilano transfer programs. Most 1st and 2nd year courses at UBC are 100+ students and provide minimal personal attention. In contrast to college programs with a approx 30:1 student to teacher ratio. Additionaly, courses are much cheaper when taken in college with tuition fees being approx half that of UBC.
The senior level courses are where UBC shines and where you actually get interaction with your professors.
There is much to be said about getting into UBC to develop relationships and network early on and which can be very beneficial down the road. UBC is the more externally enrichening environment, but the quality of education is on par. Becoming an active member of the university community looks real good when applying for jobs, and being on UBC campus exposes you to many opportunities not present at the colleges.
I recommend applying to UBC, but also to one or two of the colleges as a backup plan. It is very simple to tranfer in during 2nd or 3rd year and the requirements are much less strenuous.
If you have any questions needing more details or regarding where you would like to take your career and my advice in regards to that, let me know.

go to cap for 1st year and then transfer into their 2nd commerce program, thats what i did and i love it, u also don't have to have super high grades if u transfer from college as opposed to strait outta high school, all kids from cap with a gpa of 3.2 or above are accepted ... and those with 3.0 and 3.1s are accepted if they had good supplements. plus cap is half the price of ubc so u can spend more money on skis
