San Francisco Housin

Hello NS,

I had a last minute job come together in San Francisco and I am driving out from New Hampshire next tuesday. I have been browsing through craigslist for apartments but I figured I would check here to see if anyone knows of someone looking for a roommate or a subletter. I am just looking for housing from sept. 1st through christmas for now.

Also, any other info about SF would be appreciated as I am fairly unfamiliar with the area.

Thanks,

John

Hey man. Tryin to make the journey out with my girlfriend in the next couple months. I'm from NY and I'm looking for a job in SF. I'm a web designer/social media "whatever" but I'm really looking for anything to get me out there right now. http://erichsparks.com is my site. If you come across anything keep me in mind will ya? Thanks!

I'm from San Francisco, and I'm gonna tell you that the only way that you're going to really be able to find an apartment is once you're already in the city. I'd recommend staying with a friend for a few days if you have any in SF. I'll talk to some of my friends who are still living there. I would help both of you out with a temp place to stay, but I moved out to Utah a few weeks ago.

Hey thanks man. I've got a few options of places to stay, one being with an exec from Motorola who travels 90% of his time so he's never there. Only problem is now my girlfriend wants to go so we'd have to find a place for both of us. If you hear of any 1 or 2 bedroom apts let me know?

Thanks for the help, that would be great if you checked in with your friends about apartments. My uncle has a place right by the Presidio so my plan is to stay with him for as long as it takes to find an apartment.

Anyone else? What about the surf?

And snowcase, I will keep you in mind

Scoo-Woop is dead on. Once you get out west, you'll have a better idea with what to look at.

On top of that, don't completely disregard surrounding areas either.

The East bay like Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley, or South of San Francisco like San Bruno and Millbrae might be awesome options if you want to have a larger place too, as they're at least a little bit cheaper, typically, and all connected by Bart, Muni, or Caltrain if you're cool with public transportation.

I lived in the East Bay and commuted to SF from Oakland on Bart all the time. It's about a 10-15 minute ride depending on where you're going from typically, and way cheaper in the longrun then the gas and bridge toll, or trying to park in the city (Note: trying to find affordable or close parking in San Francisco can be an absolute nightmare on a level I've never seen anywhere else. If I lived there full time, I wouldn't even have a car if I could help it).

As for surfing, Ocean Beach and Linda Mar are the best spots right there, but you can find tons of stuff out there.

A quick drive south of Pacifica, and you end up at Mavericks... which has some decently sized stuff...

further than that, you end up in Santa Cruz and Capitola, where my favourite surf is..

If you go north, you have places like Black Point, Bolinas, and Pt. Reyes which are all pretty sick too.

Northern California's just loaded with good surf spots, so get out there and explore it.

Pff I surf Mavericks on my 5'2" fish.......jk that shit is absolutely nuts. Ocean beach can look like Moscow in the winter/fall so beware but often times it clears up and is like a cold ass version of north shore.

Whoever said you have to live here to find a place couldn't be more correct. Seriously I moved from the least bay to the city and finding a place on CL is like a fuckin rat race dude. People seriously show up with their first months rent and deposit with cash and credit report before even checking out the place. Too bad you weren't here for Outside lands, my brain is still hurting from that. Congrats on moving out here dude, SF is the seriously the most fun city I've had the opportunity to live in. Tahoe, well let's just say my mountain (kirkwood) got 782 inches last year and we weren't even the most in CA or Tahoe area for that matter. If it's anything like it was last year you'll probably have one of the best seasons of your life. If you want someone to show you around pm me and I'll grab a beer with you. I live in the mission which is about 7-10 degrees warmer than other parts of SF. Also a plus is that we normally get all the major ski film premiers that come through the city. I don't have much help as far as friends subletting but it shouldn't be that hard once you actually get here.

Bullshit, haha. It got over 800 for sure didn't it? It had to!

Not that it matters since last season was so fucking ridiculous... I hope that repeats...

This.

Also, San Bruno and Millbrae tend to be a little dicey in some parts in terms of quality of housing, but you can always move back into the city once you've got your feet on the ground.

Also, beware of delays when you take Muni, Caltrain, and BART. But like DingoSean said, its a great way to get around the general San Francisco/South San Francisco/Oakland area. The drivers of buses and trains can also be really mean sometimes. But, you'll only find a few of those.

Haha, so true... but at the same time, they take so much fucking bullshit, so I'm not surprised..

Taking the 38 bus through the tenderloin will teach you how much shit they have to take... I once was on there when some idiot tried to rob the bus for money... lol. Guy pulled a knife on the driver, so the driver just opened all the doors, gave the keys to the guy, told everyone to "get the fuck off the bus" and called the cops. Ditched the bus till the cops came to deal with it.

Fucking stupid as fuck that someone would try to 'rob' the bus... 80% of riders use the clipper card or bus pass anyways...

Thanks for all the advice everybody. I arrived in the city last night after an epic journey across 'merica. I'm psyched to get out and explore san fran and keep me in mind if you know of someone in need of a roommate.

I'm completely down. Where at? What's our price range? Timeframe? I was hoping for in the city since that's where I'll be most likely to land a job. I had an interview with Envolve.com Wednesday which was effin sweet.

I'm down with that. I'm trying to move into a place by October 1st and I will let you guys know if I come across anything. I'm psyched my first weekend in the city is a long one.

bump...found a couple places but don't really want to commit to a 1 year lease. Housing is a bitch right now, let me know if you guys hear of any openings or are interested in any of the places i've found

My friend just got to Oakland monday. She's in search of a place for us but she said she might have to snag a one bedroom place if she can't find anything else.

Presidio Heights but I work by Union Square so I wasn't planning on going back afterwards, I'm down to grab some drinks in the mission though, let me know
