I just watched Sammy's new edit, I vomited 3 times. Even though I didn't pay for it, I want my fucking money back.

Overall Length: 834 seconds

Non-skiing Filler: 252 seconds

Just over 30% of the entire edit is NOT SKIING. But don't worry, 100% of the audio is ADR, meaning ITS NOT FUCKING REAL. Oh, you pulled stock sound bites of a guy rubbing his balls in the sand and you think it adds to the skiing? IT SOUNDS LIKE FUCKING GARBAGE! But hey, Warren Miller Entertainment does it so it must be cool, right? Yeah, the fucking gapers who rarely ski and don't know what it sounds like really love it. I guess you're hitting your target audience with that one!

Seriously though, did you really have to use the same 3 sound effects for every turn even if they were in completely different conditions? I have to admit, you do have balls for even using ADR on Sammy himself by hiring a 50-something pedophile on voice.com. Abomber must be jealous.

Sammy, you're hilarious. That was the best joke since mirroring your shots at Windell's to trick people into thinking you could spin both ways when you couldn't. You should team up with Gus Kenworthy to make the first ever CGI ski edit. I bet Andri Ragettli would host it on his youtube channel so you could get more than a 1,000 views, you fucking has-been. I can't wait to see how "MEGA ULTRA STOKED!" steepsteep gets off this pile of garbage.

I was overall pretty stoked on the edit once they got past the bullshit intro but yeah the ADR is stupid. Sammy's skiing is already insane so its really a bad call on Quicksilver to add in all the effects. The last 2 years were far worse with the incredibly stupid broken glass sound effects and motivational speaker soundtrack. I wonder how much creative control Sammy has on these projects vs what Quicksilver dictates.

Sammy bailed on my question on the NS AMA so Im going to have to agree with skierman on this one. Its really dope when they mic the athlete so you hear the wind noise and the guy breathing for his life to fight down a line. Putting in some post production swooshing noises is fucking stupid and needs to get called out.
 
I thought it was fucking gangster. Made me realize how much I need heli budget...

I'm probably the target demographic.

1. Intro is staged pow slash. Lol

2. Bro they added a sound effect to Sammy throwing a snowball off the lip lmao...editor got access to some packs and wanted to test them out IG

3. 3 minutes in now the soundtrack does NOT match the skiing. Interesting choice tbh. Average street segment? I could see that song. Average BC segment? No.

4. 4:49 sick line. But why the fuck are there all these uber-boosted sfx?

5. They literally put an action movie "intense bang" sfx on a landing. Tf? Am I watching a marvel movie?

6. Meh

7. Meh

Final conclusion. This is way sicker shit than I could ever do. I will also forget about this edit tomorrow unless it is questioning how however much money went into this resulted in this.

I got dragged to a TGR premiere before seeing this for the first time at level 1’s premiere. I understand some of the flak, but I have to say the difference between the two was night and day and doesn’t really warrant this amount of hate just over the fake sound effects (which yes, are lame af).

Overall, the level of skiing is undeniably top notch. Some of those heli shots are absolutely fucked. Hell, I saw the edit a second time at the powtown premiere in Bozeman and Ligare introduced the film. He was noticeably humbled talking about Sammy just by being able to introduce the film. That speaks volumes to the level of skiing, the guy skied with Sammy in person to make this.

Also what you guys don’t like Ozzy are you out of your fucking minds?

I made it like 3 minutes in before I had to turn it off today at work. I’d watch grass grow when I’m bored at work this edit was so bad it removed dopamine and serotonin from my brain.

IDK why but I just don't like Westside Gunn. Maybe just something to do with his voice, cant put my finger on it, I'm the exact type of person who should like WG. I think Benny the Butcher is solid, I listen to a ridiculous amount of Nas, Wu-Tang, Biggie, Mobb Deep, Kendrick, J Cole, Vince Staples, G Rap, Rakim, I feel like I should like WG but I don't.
 
Before watching it, I read all the comments and was totally agreeing with the negative reviews. It sounded really bad. Then I watched it and kept waiting for the bad parts. It started with an out of place rap song. Then there was a cool silent pov segment. After there was amazing segment with Ozzy Osbourne's "No More Tears" and it ended. What the fuck was there not to like about any of that?

Btw the sound effects were so subtle, in no way did that bring down the experience.

Yes YUP was basically as boring as his latest short films. Wow skiing down a mountain great I already saw it 1 billion times before from him. Then 2-3 tricks just to keep the audience a bit happy. I mean come on we all know SC can do better than that... He isnt the extraordinary guy anymore for me.

making an edit is a piece of art...the creators are telling a story, setting a mood, conveying a message etc. as an artist you are using whatever mediums/tools you see fit to express your point.

Do I love fake snow noises?...no. It would be cooler with the actual sound of skiing amplified... but that is probably hard to do seeing that POV audio usually sounds like two dudes having sex, and audio from a drone sounds like a drone.

I think in general, the whole edit had a dope vibe, and the sound effects helped convey the majesty, and "quite" power of an untouched mountain, as well as the ultra focused/zen feeling a skier might have while attempting to ride it.

Also curious if the haters have ever climbed and skied an actual "big mountain line" with a natural, uncontrolled, unskied snowpack? Might change how you think a bit.

All I see is Sammy charging hard well into his 30s and putting out the max amount of content possible for a project at his age...he had one 3 in there that was into a massive like 45 degree steep AK looking line that was legit death defying

There is a big difference between adding in a soundtrack like every other edit and putting in fake snow noises. Dont get me wrong- the edit was dope, Ozzie was a savage song choice and I even liked the rap music. The problem is we need to draw a line in the sand and call out the bullshit or companies are going to keep doing it or push the boundaries between watching and hearing actual skiing and whatever post production crap they can add to 'enhance' it. This edit was strange because it looked like Sammy and the actual videographers wanted a banger mid 2000s ski porn edit but then some suit from Quickslilver saw the tape and said, "WME is really popular with the added snow effects and we need more slow mo snow shots..." so they kind of shoe horned it in.
 
I find it funny that people complain about high end production in ski video. Would you rather have wind noise and silence? I can get behind a SFX being unnecessary here and there, but sound design is pretty important for full immersion into the video, I'd much rather have some extra sounds than no sound at all.

but where is the line drawn? raw clips only? no speed changes of clips? music, but no added sound effects allowed? Candide put CGI eagles, and people, n shit in his "one of those days" edits, but im not gonna shit on his skiing, or the entertainment level of that edit.

variety is the spice of life they say...it's good to have everything from raw clips, to low budget DIY crews, to adventures docs, to higher production cost stuff like this, even if it can be a little corny. Shit, lets bring back Hot Dog the movie

I think the only one really hating on the actual edit and skiing is Skierman but then again he shits on everything. I have tried to be pretty clear that the skiing is top notch and the soundtrack is awesome, its the unnecessary things that take away from it I am against. This edit is under more of a spotlight because Quiksilver has put in some really ridiculous sound effects into their past Sammy edits like the broken glass sound etc which really made them suck.

Maybe I am old school but I love to just see raw skiing with either the actual sound or a good soundtrack. Slow Mo is fine because you know its slow mo, adding in effects to blur what is real and what is post is not appealing to me. If big companies find out they can get away with this then what about video enhancement like more snow spray or clean up how a trick looks etc? Video production and post have gotten so good that you can blur the line between real skiing and 'artistic' interpretation and we need to be really careful on where to draw the line on what the ski community will accept.

I just wanted to stick up for this edit a bit, cause as you said that was some dope skiing, and it actually got me stoked which his last edit or two that I saw did not.

skierman doesn't actually know how to ski, so thats to be expected.
