Salt Lake conditions in February

just wondering what its like around then. if theres pow, sun, how are the lift lines etc.

specific resorts would be brighton and snowbird.

tell me bout it
 
well i don't know if you've heard or not, but global warming. basically, all the top climatologists are saying that winter is a thing of the past in utah. so most of the resorts (including snowbird and brighton) are liquidating all of their ski resort equipment to become exclusively summer resorts. they're dismantling all the chairlifts and selling them because right now is the peak of the chairlift market, being right before the season - this is the last chance for resorts to buy and install new ones. so all of chairlifts in utah are being sold to resorts back east, since vermont and maine are expected to start getting a lot more snow.

but, on the other hand, if you've always wanted to ride the alpine slide at park city, february should be prime.

sucks that you missed the chance to ski powder in utah though. it was good while it lasted.

 
uhh yeah i didn't say ten years i was kinda talkin about this year.. and i have no idea where you came up with the theory that all the chairlifts are being sold.

February is normally a good month. I think I've been told January is pretty dry, and February/early March it dumps. The holiday crowd is over, so the lift lines shouldn't be terrible. I wouldn't be able to tell you from experience because last year was terrible.

and don't start any AHH GLOBAL WARMING! ITS HERE NOW! shit. i can tell you that BC and alaska had record snowfall last season, so don't start.
 
Last season was really bad, especially after how good the season before was. If we have another one that bad I'm going to move someplace where people are normal.
 
Haha. Exactly how I feel. Too bad I already committed to going to school here.

But There's not telling what the weather will be like. We can't control it, and neither can you, so just wait and see.
 
from what i've read, utah resorts are only minimally impacted by el nino/la nina compared with other locations. there are epic seasons during el nino and epic seasons during la nina, and the same for sucky seasons like last year.

i've also heard that a hot summer in utah is indicative of a good winter - not sure if it's true, but i remember last summer people (especially locals) were like "it hasn't been that hot this summer, so the ski season will suck." and i didn't want to believe them but they were right. but i don't how strong the correlation there really is.

also, the bit about all the chairlifts being sold to the east coast is 100% true because there is no sarcasm or any of that monkey business on freeskiing's online community.
