Salt Lake City

I'm starting to consider where I want to do an exchange at through the National Student Exchange the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. I'm considering going to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

What are some of the Pros and Cons of living in Salt Lake City?

Besides the ridiculous skiing at Alta and Park City, I've heard the music scene is pretty good. What else do people know of the city? (cost of living, crime?, weird mormon laws, etc.)

***beer is 3.2% by weight, 4% by volume...which is not far off from normal beer in other states

Pros

if you come to salt lake city it means you will not be in wisconsin anymore

cons

salt lake city is actually a worse place to live than wisconsin

being from Wisconsin myself (Green Bay), i would have never gone to school here at the U. People here are not very nice, and a lot of the people here don't even drink... (though you will find some that do). if you're going here to ski and thats it, then this is the place for you. but if you're looking for the overall college experience, i would look elsewhere.

in corner stores. if you go to a state store, or whatever utah calls establishments where you can buy bottles of liquor, they'll often have real beer there too. out in ogden last winter i put together a mixed 6 pack that could rival anything i'd get at home, for about the same price.

It's true you can get some very good beer in the Utah liquor stores. The problem is there is no variety, every liquor store has the exact same selection. Epic brewery is our only hope.

i've always noticed when i go there how many gold courses there are.

and if you fish the fishing is like coloroado except the mormons scare everyone away so its amazing

and the alcohol thing is really annoying but who cares great outdoors and skiing keeps you occupied.

HAHAHAHAH michael?!?!?!?

Ok ok ok ok. I've met a bunch of people since I got here, and this guy is straight up the only one I know who hates it. You just gotta find people you like to be around. It is a little to big for to have a real college community, but if that doesn't bother you and you really want to ski, look no further.

Well I feel like I've had the partying aspect of college already, and I'm kinda over it.....so I think I would me more into going to school and then going skiing, hiking, and other things outside. How is the campus?

A big factor that plays into this is that alta, snowbird, and park city are super close haha.

I think that I'm lookin for a change of scenery from wisconsin, meaning - better skiing and landscape so I can ski, hike and just be outside in general. I want to go to school, ski, and see music if possible.

I haven't lived in a big city like Salt Lake City before, which i want to. I've spent my entire life in the Madison area besides the couple years in Eau Claire, WI for school so far.

If you like doing things (skiing, hiking, motocross, biking, basically anything outdoors) and having amazing weather to do it in, SLC is your place.

But if you like a place that has a ton of culture behind it (all different kinds of people, stores, things out of the ordinary), in general you won't find a lot of it here. Sure there is fun stuff, but you can't compare it to big diverse east/west coast cities.

It all depends on what is most important to you. Me, I like doing shit, all the time. So it's awesome.

why would you not go to SLC over wisconsin. wisconsin has cheese, SLC has some of the sickest skiing and best snow in north america. yea grocery store beer sucks but just go to a liquor store. also there's in n out in SLC
