I just got the Sir Francis Bacons and I'm not totally sure if i should get the STH 12 or STH 16. I'm 6'2" and 175 and i usually ride my dins at 10. Will the STH 12's hold or is it worth the extra $50-60 for the STH 16s?
I was in your situation, except I'm smaller and ride my dins at 8.5ish. and I bought Jesters, because I got them for cheap at my shop. They have been great, so if you can find those for cheaper you might wanna do that. But if it is just between the STH, 12 should be good, but 16's would add to resale and stuff.
^DONT GET JESTERS...im about your size, 511 175-180, and my jesters pre release so randomly, and i have to ride with my din alot higher than on my fks, ive also heard of the sth12 toes breaking, so go for the 16s, unles for some reason you would ever want to drop your din below 9
I am the exact same height and weight as you. I ride last years bacons with STH12's. I have them at 10 and have had no problems. You will be happy with the weight and money savings by buying the 12's. And if you really shred hard and are worried about breakage just buy them from REI, (which are in stock and marked down to 200 btw...), because if you snap a toe they have a 100% quality satisfaction guarantee = infinite bindings. Just my $.02.
I have always ridden on Salomon bindings and just got the STH 16 on my 185 Scratch Steeze which is similar to the SFB. I love them. I heard people saying that the 16 was light for a higher din binding, and it really is. So there is not too much of a weight difference. Since you are going with a bigger ski, and you might learn to throw bigger stuff, go faster, and just get better, the STH 16 would be the better option in my opinion. One other thing to think about is price but I dont think it is too huge of a difference.
as someone your weight I wouldn't want anything remotely related to the z12 bindings, get the 16s for sure. yea I'm aware the sth 12 is a beefed up z12, but still the sth 16 is a less beefy 916 which in my opinion is a way doper concept to have a lighter 916 than a beefier z12.
