Salomon guardian 13 or 16?

Hi NS!

I'm buying my first backcountry setup and got stumbled around the problem of picking bindings.

Salomon Guardian/Atomic Tracker seemed like an obvious choice since I mostly shred in park and want to transfer my magic skills to the backcountry land, send quadruples, future spins and ton of gucci stuff!

Since from now on, this text will be related primarily to the same binding owners or tech gurus, I will quickly ask my question.

I am 178 cm/ 5.8 feet tall

78 kg/ 172 pounds fat

and advanced ski guy.

What will be the best choice of DIN 13 or 16 on these bindings?

Currently I ski on markers with DIN 10 and feel like 13-14 will be more than enough, but still quite confused what to buy. So, what do you guys think? Bigger is better?

Thanks!

Get the 16. A fraction more weight, and you don't really want to run a binding maxed out (i.e. 12-13 din setting on a 13 din binding).

Thanks for the advice! Didn't though about maxing out a binding. It makes sense, preloading springs to the max will decrease their life spawn.

Now, gotta find a good deal. I've got 2014 Line Mr.Pollards Opus for 367$ from herehttp://www.ebay.ca/itm/2014-Line-Mr...y-/191481546075?pt=Skiing&hash=item2c9530855b

And the new guardians are like ~300$ almost as same price as skis, but I'm sure it's worth it. It's gonna be a nice set up!

I'm the same weight as you and 6'0 and have the 13s and had the atomic ffg 13 teams (16 din, same brand kinda binding) until someone stole them and would recommend the higher limit, can comfortably put dins on 12 for off piste stuff to avoid prerelease and don't want to max the bindings

He currently rides a 10 DIN bindings. I'm pretty sure he's not maxing out a 13 DIN binding.

are the bindings identical besides the spring though? my DIN isn't 12 or 13, but i definitely ride hard-- is there any reason for me to get the 16 in that case?

if you ride hard you will need the extra din.

Im 6'1" 185 pounds and I got the guardian 13s. I haven't needed the extra din yet and I shred pretty hard. The #1 reason I got them though was because of the discount that I got on them. Otherwise I would have gotten the 16s. But i have yet to have a problem with the 13s

the 13's are like 220 bucks brand new from levelnine with a warrranty and free shipping. IMHO its not worth the extra $200 for a bunch of extra din that you probably wont use or need.

also levelnine is legit

I have talked to the guy in my local shop who rides guardians and he said that that there is a good reason to not tune your din to the max. You want to have 2 DIN # less than you maximum for a safety and efficiency reasons.

So let's say my marker bindings DIN is 13 on the max, that's why I will ski on din 10-11.

By going into the backcountry I will want to drop some big lines and that's where DIN 13-14 will come handy.

Yea, I can max out guardian 13 DIN, but that isn't going to be safe and efficient.

That's the 1st thing and second is obviously a price.

The actual price for a new 2014/15 Guardians 316 are 349$ CAD and 320$ CAD for 13. So it's not such a huge difference. There are also same binding made by look and atomic. I just got LOOK XM 16 for 300$ USD which is a good deal.
