Salomon dying?

Salomon has lost Dane Tudor, Sammy Carlson, Simon Dumont, Paul Bergeron, Ben Moxham, and Charles Gagnier. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that VinniCash just rocks Salomon skis but actually has no contract with them. So their team only now has like Bobby Brown, Mike Henituck, Cody Townshend, Toto Krief, Noah Albadejo, Noah Bowman, and Henrik Winstedt Wtf? Why are they letting all their athletes leave? Did they over invest in building a super team just to lose everybody? Are they going down the pipeline like Coreupt? They used to have the best team in the biz, but they haven't grown the team at all to make up for losing those athletes. Even Coreupt was adding guys like Dale and Rolland when they were losing guys like Schiller and Kenworthy.

the trend is that pro skiers are opting out of this large "corporate" style business of salomon. This has to do with the progressive push to support small up and coming ski companies. This is a large trend in skiing as the skiers want to be more individual and represent a different image.

I'll be that guy. Fuck Salomon. Maybe they realized that people in the freeskiing world wanted their shit out of here. One of the largest names in skiing failed to back a product that was obviously failing due to manufacturer error (hence the frequency and similarities in issues skiers were having with Salomon skis). However, after addressing the issue publicly, stating that it was not manufacturer error, Salomon also failed to solve the issue in the next season. Fuck Salomon. When you have millions of dollars for R&D, warranty issues, and marketing, the product better stand out, be quality, and live up to what it's advertised for. I'm glad Salomon's presence is dying.

I'm speaking strictly freeskiing. Salomon still has a HUGE presence in every other corner of skiing. My bad for not making note of that.

I mean, we all know salomon had a shitty product. We all knew it. Most of us never skied their shit because of the quality. I never did. Most kids who buy salomon see the skis at their local shop and think "damn, i'm going to rock these and look dope as shit" and buy them.

I mean, they did put a huge presence in freeskiing. They might be a piece of shit company, but they did contribute insaly

I like how you all assume it's the athletes leaving Salomon and not Salomon dumping the athletes.

Salomon has been around since the beginning of the 'freeski' movement - hell, they pretty much started the movement (and Line of course). I'd say Salomon has flushed their team more than any other ski company in the biz. Out with the old, in with the new...

Salomon isn't going anywhere.

man, fuck salomon. whenever i think of salomon i think of a huge corporation, skiing is serious business, and honestly that's not cool at all.

I wouldn't give two shits if they stopped interacting with the freeskiing industry tomorrow.

Salomon is done with their entire U.S. national team. They're done innovating park skis and are all about all mountain / backcountry skis. They're essentially done with the park scene and trying to become a more hiking, outdoors oriented company like the northface.

I never considered buying anything salomon except their boots and I still ended up with full tilts. But I think it's a little unjust comparing salomon to Corupt since salomon is a corporation is Corupt is more of a small business.

Am I the only one who enjoys riding the suspects? It's clear they're changing their focus though, thats too bad.

BECAUSE TECHNOLOGY AND STUFF

for example I was at my local ski shop and K2 was doing some presentation or some shit to some peeps, and it was their brand new racing skis/carvers. anyway, one of the skis evidently has like an electronic transmitter than tells you when to turn, or somethin like that. i don't get it

Hey they put out one of the coolest freeski online series that there is, Salomon freeski TV has always been great to watch and is good for the industry. I dont know in terms of sponsorship though

Their focus has really seemed to have shifted to the backcountry segment, which is cool with me. And doesn't Woodsy still ride for them?

this sounds exactly like Rossi from a year or so ago. funny how 2 giants are falling apart on the freeski side of things even though they were both very influential at the begining is 1080s vs Scratches

While park skiing/xgames and all that make skiing more cool and popular, not that

many people are actually looking for ski to spin, and survive heavy rails and

urban.

The backcountry/pow market is a hell of a lot bigger and those skis appeal to a slightly older demographic too (people who actually have money). It's a corporation. They do the math, and they are changing the focus.

Meh i dont care for salomon. The only ski i ever considered buying was the first dumont pro. I have the second year foil boots too just cause they fit my feet perfectly, but everyone always ask why i have them haha

they are spending more time developing their all mountain/ powder skis. they just really dont care about park skiing anymore. thus they drop most of their park athletes. and only have 2 parks skis, both of which havent changed in 3 years.

they do make good bindings for all levels of skiers tho. no better bang for the buck.

I wonder if these sponsorship drops/changes also have to do with Salomon's parent group, Amer Sports Group changing the throttle and making some of these moves? Amer also owns Atomic as I understand, but Onenerdykid can probably tell us that Amer drives each brand to be competitive with eachother and in no way is Atomic affecting any of these changes.

You guys forgot a few people if I'm not mistaken: Walker, Martini, Chowens, and I'm probably missing a few more.

Salomon can do what ever the fuck they want, they have a skis and boots on lock. Their new x max series is gonna be there number one boot series this year garuntee it. And their rocker series as well as enduro series always does well.they don't need to advertise that much, everybody kiss who they are

excellent call by salomon because the park ski movement is dead, cycled and played out, its all about all mountain these days.

spks are the best boots ive ever owned and will be rocking them til they stop making em. but in my opinion a big company like salomon cant compete with specialty brands like armada, and line and most athletes would rather be sponsored by smaller operations then be backed by a huge company that wont listen to their input cause they don't have time.

Jeez, some of you park rats don't pay attention to anything that goes on. Salomon may have lost some park skiers but they've recently signed up a few massive names in ski touring and ski mountaineering - Greg Hill and Andreas Fransson.

They're not dying, just changing. Being able to adapt quickly to changes in the industry is one of the things that has made them stronger over the years rather than killing them off.

I vaugely remember in an SIA product video from a year or two ago, Mike Douglas explicity saying they were changing their focus to pow & all mountain skis

Perhaps it was driven by the higher profit margins in those producs, perhaps it was their expulsion from the freeski scene after the disaster of the suspects. Frankly I think it was a bit of both
