you know the metal rail that runs underneath the heelpiece of the binding? i completely snapped it in half today on the very first rail i hit (meaning my whole heelpiece came off). i have no clue how it happened, because all i did was land a little awkward coming off. just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them?

It's a known problem with a couple of Salomon binding models. Especially the 912 TI. Something to do with the heeltrack being made out of aluminum I believe.

Send it back to salomon, they will give you a new pair.

I have been hearing more problems with 912 ti durability problems...

'yes, that's right. now how would that appear in a phone book?'

^there's no conspiracy or anything, they're known problems.

The real fun part is when you find out that Salomon bindings don't do anything more than any other binding when it comes to protecting your knees, despite Salomon's claims. But that's another thread.

yah i have c710, and they always let my foot pop out half way but not fully, so i'm still half in and half out, and there only set at 7 din, but hten again i'm 145lbs

^if I were a moderator, I'd delete your post, because it's useless. The C710 is a recreational-level binding that isn't meant for performance skiing. It's a piece of shit that isn't even in the same league as an S912/914/team binding.

If you can't bring anything to the thread, just keep it to yourself.

I am just curious why the bindings have troubles. My roommate busted both 912 ti and 914s this year doing practically nothing. Salomon is starting to equate to North Face to me; a company that used to put out high quality goods but has oriented too much to the preppy general public. Why have they not fixed these problems, Jib_this? you seem to know a bit

jib_this... the 'ti' at the end of the name stands for titanium. the rail thing in the heel is made of titanium, not aluminum.

i broke a two sets of S912ti's this year and four sets of marker 1200/1400 series bindings. when you ski hard/aggressive/do rails and shit, things break. binding companies are super good about warranties... just send em back.

They probably dont fix these problems because people will still buy them. Not many people know about these problems until after it happens to them (which dont very much because not many people ski hard enough).

'I would be embarrassed to constantly complain about my life considering all the freedom and opportunities we have today. People that can't find anything they enjoy in life simply aren't giving it a real try.' ~Nick 311

I don't know any more than anyone with internet access and slight knowledge on how to use google knows. I just bothered researching it all because I blew my knee out on a pair of brand new, properly set up S912s, in a situation that Salomon swears the binding is supposed to protect me in.

And I could SWEAR the heeltrack is aluminum, as I've been told by some people at salomon, but it's very possible that I'm wrong. Either way, the heeltrack breaks, more than most people know, and they're good about replacing the bindings.

And yes, I'm aware that the TI stands for titanium. But there's quite a few pieces that could be made of titanium.

the heeltrack is aluminum. they tried to replace it in the shop today with a steel one from a regular 810 but it didn't work, so i had to unmount my bindings and send them in to salomon. oh well at least there's only 6 days left in the season here. my frnt's are naked though, i don't think they like it very much

i bent the shit out of my heeltrack at the open during my first run, had to bend it like none other to fix it

other than that, i've had no problems with my s912ti's, i've used em for two years and they're still good

I ride 912s, not the ti's, they are kina of heavy, but they haven't given me any problems. Pretty solid.

ive had lots of release problems with my 912ti's. One ski popped off in mid air and both dins are cranked. Awsome bindings though. Other times the bindings refuse to release resulting in injury.

^914s have a different heeltrack. I believe it's steel. Which would explain why they don't break as much as the 912 TI heeltrack.

I've got 02/03 S912 Ti's and no major problems. Time to time, the toepiece 'wings' loosen up, so I'll have to tighten them up.

yah i got the Ti's because of the weight difference (and i got a good deal), but i weigh 190, and i wish i would've got 914's because i'm sure this is just going to happen again, and next time it might be at the beginning of the season

last season i broke like 4 pairs of salomon s912ti's and everytime salomon gave me a new pair no questions asked....which is good on their part, but i personally dont want to be worrying about busting a binding all the time so im rockin look pro jibs this year.

^when you brought them in did the shop replace them right there or did you have to wait 2-4 weeks to get a new pair? because the shop i bought mine at wouldn't just replace them even though it was an obviously warranty-able malfunction
