Sailing class question:

I know a few kids teach sailing and my question is... What kinda shoes and pants/shorts should I wear? I start monday and I figure we won't be on the boats on Monday, but I'm curious.

i crashed into a Duck Boat and capsized to the bottle in the middle of the charles river once

bring lots of weed its awesome when ur out on ocean bombing over waves and passing a blunt with ur friend

Serious racers always where some type of close toed shoe. When I sail my laser I just go barefoot. A lot of people just wear sandals. If its your first day, just bring sandals. Dont wear pants unless its really cold outside. Spray jackets are good if its raining.

i sail cats and i sail barefoot because its the most grippy and i usually just wear board shorts and a rash gaurd but thats because im out on the trap and if its cold a wetsuit but on big boats shorts and a ski shell works i have an EMS ski shell that works niceley

when im teaching sailing i tell the kids just to wear shorts, a long steve T and a hat.

if im racing on 18ft skifs il have hard sole wet boots on my feet, but there expencive.

i hate 420's, such tanks, and they have a daggerboard case so i always get shinbang.

I suggest you wear/bring swim shorts, if it's warm wear a rashguard (sunshirt) and try to get some booties, either paddling or sailing booties, but if ur just starting, sandal will be fine. once you progress get closed toed boots.

last year i sliced off the bottom of my big toe when i was wearing sandals, but i've been sailing for years, and do more crazy stuff than a beginner

sperry shoes are sick...there made for sailing

yeah barefoot is ok in a laser, but if he was doin 420's his feet would die.

I coach, and kids are required to atleast have sandles, I recomend Wakeskate shoes, just cuz the sailing shoes that do the same thing as wakeskate shoes look pretty gay, as for pants, just wear shorts there, and bring a swim suit, so if you do go out on the water, you can change in the bath room. Also a lifejacket is a must too, many classes requier them.

Here are a few websites to check out for shoes too.

Anything that has Mesh in the name from DVS are good choices too

screw shoes, its all about the rainbows, and for actually sailing dont wear boots, hiking boots are a waste of money, the only time i have ever worn boots is when i frostbite in my drysuit, and is anyone hear doing 420 north americans??

Please for the love of god don't wear sperry's. There like big boat shoes for fat overweight men. Their classy off water shoes tho. Im a sailing coach at my yacht club and also sailed 420's for a while and now i'm getting into lasers. Best shoe is definatley just old sneakers, as far as shorts i either wear liek board shorts or just regualr kahki shorts.

i would reccomend not wearing open footwear, wear so something like cheap water shoes or invest in wetsuit booties. As for pants, were swim trunks

man i sail 13-55 footers with my family every year and I usually end up going barefoot or sandals (like teva's) depending on the weather... bad weather or choppy, i'll put on sandals or barefoot in good weather

If you're sailing anything small, lasers, sunfish, etc. boardshorts and a tshirt or rashguard are fine. If it's like 420's, I'd wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet. If you're racing anything bigger where you're not planning on getting wet, regular clothes and sneakers are fine

sperrys are for keelboats. if your sailing 420's at a beginner level shitty shoes are fine. if your racing your gonna wanna get some gill trap booties, thats what i wear theyre the best.
