Sage in light the wick

best segment I have ever seen. that last line was hands down in the top 5 lines ever skied, perfect gnarly spine line followed by whackflip over massive crevasse gap.

sage is the best skier in the world currently, and in my top two people i would most like to shred with haha.

but ya he skis the perfect line at the end of his segment. He literally found the perfect run, the man can conquer no more.

The quote that i found most amazing was when they said that petersburg, AK was steeper than anywhere else they skied in AK. WTF?! seriously? when TGR rippers say something like that i am blown away

sage is the sickest rider out there. always pushin' it... so stoked to see him learning new tricks too... doesn't get the respect he deserves on this site... but i guess thats to be expected for anyone who doesn't do rails...

Bored as shit at work today, so I am watching all the new movies on my IPOD. Sage in Light the Wick is the best segment of the year, followed closely by Sean Pettit in The Way I See It.

I don't think any other skier can do what Sage does. Shred the gnarliest AK lines, double flips on big BC booters, 360's of pillow lines. The man is insane!

He was my Windell's coach back in '04 (or maybe it was '03). I don't think people realize that at one point he was pretty cutting edge in the park scene. He was pulling grabbed out sw 5's both ways back when that was something that turns heads.
I see that as one of the thing that sets him apart from a lot of the older big mountain guys. He has really good air sense. Together with the fact that he skies the gnarliest shit.. yea he's definitely one of the best.

Sage is the best out. He made that crevasse gap look so easy after shredding the shit out of a gnarly spine and then hit it again and went wayyy bigger and stomped the shit out of it. I don't think there is anyone else on the planet that could've made something so fucking crazy look so damn good. There is a clip of one of the other tgr guys in the intro (or ending credits, can't remember) trying to hit the same gap and he completely ate shit even before he got to the edge of it

candide? abma? both of those are maybes cause unless we see them try it we will never know. but those two and maybe petit (maybe tanner?) are the very short list that might be able to do what sage has already done. sage is an absolute beast

Sage kills it and his part in Light the Wick is definitely i my top 5 for the year. But saying he is the only one doing that kind of stuff is also not entirely fair. JP hits some gnarly lines (air from spine to spine right at the top of a gnarly line anyone!?) and does the identical dub in his part to Sage. Sean Pettit is also absolutely destroying. Both of those 2 I would say are up there.

I've been lucky enough to ski with Sage many times before and it always blows my mind. Huge high speed 3's off deep powder takeoffs (always stomped), techy billy goat lines, and perfect air sense. His skills are from another planet, he is always so stoked and so damn funny too. we are proud to have a guy like that reppin Smith so hard...

Pettit is not on their level.... yet. I think it's pretty obvious that he'll be one of the top in the scene in a few years though... well, he already is, but he's only going to get better. I think JP, Abma, Candide, and Wiley Miller are all pretty close in terms of their style of riding. It'd be so hard to say which is the best though. They all absolutely kill it int heir own ways.

Also, I haven't seen the movie yet, but how was Carlson's part (don't care about the 3d)? I was so stoked to see him getting into big mtn the past few years.

wiley miller is sick but I dont think hes on the same level as JP Abma or Candide. I mean, fuck, candide has won X gold in pipe, park and won the freeride world tour against the best big mountain shredders in the world. Candide is the best all around skier out there. (imo)

i'd say sean isn't far off those guys, he was second at red bull line catcher, ahead of sage and jp etc.. he probably doesn't charge as hard yet but hes getting there..

as to your sammy question.. he threw a nose butter three in a spine line, in tgr which i thought was pretty much the tits.. he had loads of amazing bc and charging footage in tgr.. he's not on the sage/JP level but he looks like he'll get there.. (3d part sucked it was just a few park shots)

that's sick, i can't wait to see the movie. i think he and pettit are going to be ruling the scene in a few years.

i have watched all of pettits parts and have yet to see him ski any gnarly gnarly lines. he skis big steep lines with some big cliffs that he throws a trick off of. On the other hand sage and some of the other TGR guys ski 60 plus degree spine walls with cliffs on them. The TGR guys are on another level of big mountain riding. Matter of fact, we havn't seen candide shred any gnarly AK lines yet so we don't know how he would do.

bottom line is, not all big mountain is the same, some is wide open, and some just ski wide open on the graliest tech terrain.

After the movie in boston, Sage came up to me and asked if I knew where he could get hyphy. We then talked about the bay area for like 10 minutes haha. /claim

Just bought it yesterday. Sage took it home hands down. The man's got some balls, and I think people forget how old he is. He broke onto the big-mountain scene late, and he is 100 times better than he ever was. At the top of his game for sure. I need to get some Sage hair

Sage rips for sure, but I think it's pretty safe to say there isn't anyone who rips as hard or has better big mountain awareness/ability as Seth.

Keep in mind big mountain skiing involves a ton of elements coming together to get terrain like that in the proper conditions. Sage devotes a couple of months to being in the right place for the right time. Pettit doesn't necessarily do that. But teleport Pettit to that terrain on the right day, and I don't question whether he'd charge it just like Sage.

yet to see sean pettit ski any "gnarly" lines? clearly you have seen sean petit ski then.

we don't know whether candide can ski in AK?? are you fucking mental? the bec de rosses is every bit as commiting, exposed, steep and scary as anything AK has to offer. clearly you didn't see his FWT run down it last year... he looked so comfortable i was half expecting him to open the morning paper, order a coffee and roll a fatty midway through his run...

in summary, sage is the fucking man. candide is not the man. candide is not man. candide is something else. other people that are the man in this field that haven't been mentioned are henrik windstedt, eric hjorleifson, richard permin and bene mayr.

that is all

Candide, Henke, Hoji, Permin and many more established and upcoming skiers are sick indeed.
I thought Candide went for the hollywood cliff? Maybe not...
Best run ever on Bec de Rosses is made by Reine Barkered, sick skier for sure/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

God Damn sage is sick. I watched that segment for the first time last night and almost shit my pants watching some of those lines that he skied.
