Dear diary,

My parents don't get me, ya know

They think I'm gay just because they saw me kiss a guy

Well, a couple guys but I mean it's the 2000's

Can't two or four dudes make out with each other without being gay

I mean, chicks dig that kinda thing anyways

I don't know, diary

Sometimes I think you're the only one that gets me

You're my best friend

I feel like tacos

tom wallisch

Idk if 10 year olds know who Tom even is. The teens might recognize him as the cool announcer dude.

I would argue that newschoolers is to millennials as Instagram is to gen z. In terms ski media outlets…

but w.e we don’t have to agree

The World Economic Forum has defined Gen Z as "individuals born between 1997 and 2009"

there are tons of 18-25 year olds on NS and they all know who tom wallisch is and he is still very significant in the ski industry.

But under 18 is a good question, I've heard the youngins like jesper, but basically any big skier on tiktok is popular.

my point is we watched wallisch throughout his come up on newschoolers. he rode full tilts, jiberish, icon2s, tnf the scott goggles. I gobbled that shit up even though all I could do was a 360

Now kids are watching steepsteep, svancer, jesper…. It’s legit hard to find younger people on the mountain that don’t have baggy pants or dope/montec. At least for me.

if dope and montec aren’t cool then saga and first drop weren’t either. My logic could be flawed. If so please point out why

yeah i was just giving you shit because gen z was an awful description of the age range you're talking about. steepsteep isn't a skier though, jesper/some other popular skier on tiktok is probably the closest comparison right now.

but, idk if youve been to this place called newschoolers.com where everyone hates dope/montec, how can you even compare that to saga/first drop? we're living in a completely different era of the ski industry, social media outreach is massive, skiing is more popular than ever, that far surprasses the niche of skiers who bought saga in 2009.

Ok you fill in the blank.

tom Wallisch is to millennials as _______ is to gen z.

kids have been freaking out over people like votaw, karsteter, really any TWall rider but I doubt they even know Todd walnuts himself

I get what you’re saying. I thought gen z goes from mid 90s to 2010s birth year and millennials are 80s to mid 90s

im sure the ski groups during the times of auclair Douglas mcconkey Mosley thought the gangster thing was dumb and becoming too mass market. In those times the outreach of newschoolers was incomprehensibly big.

Relatively, kids who buy dope and montec are just as immersed in ski culture as kids who bought saga in 2009.

and I’m not telling people to like it or not, just trying to point out facts.

I recognize all those names and they’re some of my favorite skiers lol. However I probably know none of the skiers from ur generation

Not to date my self here, but I once bought a pair of rich faheys liberty helixes on newschoolers, the ones he used in slamina.

I put old pivots I found at thrift shop, skins (which cost like an arm and leg at the time) and alpine trekkers. I was beyond stoked and ready to hit the back country. Only problem was that I lived in Ontario.

The OGs at the time probably thought I was some stupid poser (which I was). So what is considered core now was probably hated on by the previous generation.

dope montec or baggy pants and vishnus will probably be considered core by the next generation.

ok, I’m done with thread for now.

still here wearing 6 year old normal fitting saga pants, you mad? Got another pair lined up for when these are finally done for.

I'm so jealous.

i guess he's kind of right, whether you like it or not. the kids at my school have never heard of saga, which was crazy to me. because i always think of saga when i think of park. idk i guess there's some weird nostalgia to when i was younger, remember seeing them in the park n shiiiiii.

For decades, jiberish has jumped on the hype train of whatever skier was relevant that year, and sold their products thru hijacking.... Especially kids that didn't know how to say "pay me"....

Probably true in the past but they paid a pretty solid chunk of the most gutter budget from what I heard

Not exactly parachute pants but yeah and this style purely clothing wise is peak. The thug era was cool but at that time I was only like 10 years old ripping through the park and all you stupid millennials on here defending this shit is so corny

I’m *barely* a Gen Z’er and I‘m still gonna die on that thug era hill. Also the fact you gave away your kit info is making me think you are a Durham bot. You probably ski like a fucking ballerina, too.

Same, I’m only 22 but grew up and remember around 10 yo thinking how dope the style was.

May not have been “my era” but it’s what got me more into park skiing.

Dude, stop making a strawman argument with dopesnow and montec. You keep acting like if younger people in the park think shit like montec and dope snow is good. young =/= jerry. Also you seem to forget that a bunch of people started wearing baggy shit because of people like harlaut before instagram skiers wore baggy pants

nah Saga gear was sought after and worn by "core" park skiers and pros for a long time. They sponsored some of the most respected skiers like Delorme, Durtschi, McRae Williams etc. Yeah the design quality fell off a cliff in later years and tons of groms bought their worst gear but they were a good brand for a long while. No one that knows much about skiing wears Dope/Montec unless they're getting paid, just kids buying from social media ads.

First Drop was never cool (except maybe the first year of pink/purple and blue on blue gear) so I guess that works as a comparison.
