Safety in Skiing

After watching clips of Wislon, Dumont and Spong all take insane crashes last season, its getting pretty clear that the danger of "park" skiing is getting pretty fucking serious. Skiing is always trying to go bigger and faster, and consequently the injuries are more common and more severe. So my question is are we gonna have to start boosting up safety, ie. body armor, padding for coming up short on jumps and the deck of halfpipes (i know it already exists)and make these sort of precautions as common as wearing helmets, or are we just gonna see how much the human body can take? Comments?

dude thats super debatable, sure pads cant hurt but some people will argue that wearing pads is kinda like cheating...personaaly i dont think so but this will be quite controversial

Cheating? I dont see how saving yourself from personal injury is "cheating" Thats the most retarded thing I have ever heard

i dont think people will start wearing pads cuz i mean whats gonna be next, parachutes? People should just stick to what they have (i.e. a helmet and body fat) and just try to manage/minimize their risks.

dude i didnt think it was cheating, just some people might think its pussy to wear pads, dont call me out on something that isnt my opinion

I think a helmet is common sense. Everyone should wear one, I personally can't stand seeing a professional skier not wearing one.

wow this is the second time today ive seen somebody appolgize in a thread on ns. maybe the hate filled ns i used to know is leaving?

pads or no pads its the skier's call but if wearing pads will make you less worried about getting hurt and then you go bigger every one gets better when they're less pussied out by the park

Wilson,Dumont and Spong are all guys pushing skiing and their safety to the absolute limit. Granted pads arent a bad idea but im not sure its something us amateur skiiers really need to worry about. Common sense and a helmet is probably the best measure against injury.

well, a helmet and back protector should be the least that one sould wear.

I had a pretty bad fall (20feet) and if would not have worn that stuff, it would have been a lot worse than it already was.

But on the other hand, protection could make one think that he's invincible and could lead to injuries as well... please consider that!
