Safety bar up. or down...

I usually have it up. But some of the chairs at my hill have foot rests so I use those sometimes. and whenever I take my little cousin skiing they always tell me to put the bar down even though we really don't need it.

up unless I'm riding with soemone who wants it down, which is usually. or when its really windy and I'm on a high chairlift.

If little kids are on the chair with me, I'm okay with it. Its the stupid assholes that drop that shit like its nobody's business that piss me off. I have a dent in my helmet from an incident last spring, we were still on the ground when they reached up and pulled that shit down like their life depended on it.

I hate it when idiots bring the bar down almost immediately when you sit down... its not like you are going to die from a 4 foot fall. chill out.

I have a messed up ankle that sometimes cant handull the weight of my legg, ski and boot so if theres a footrest on the safety bar it always goes down for me, ifnot then I dont really care

im usually to lazy to put it down but i will if i want that footrest or its something like the peak chair

yeah right away they say watch your head then ity comes crashing down on you, i hate that, or what else i hate is when u dont know when to lift the bar up awkward when ur about to get off

I usually keep it down, the lifts here in norway are pretty high.. I really hate the ones bringing them down too early too, but the ones who think you need like 300 ft to take it up before you reach the top station isannoyingas hell too!

sometimes if im tired i like to lean on them but the foot rests are nice but other than that its usually up.

ur supposed to put it down here in ottawa ... I mostly like it up but when my legs are tired i put it down

Ya I don't know how many of you guys have experienced this, but when some idiot pulls that bar down like their life depends on it, and your leg, sack, hand, or whatever is where the bar rests against the seat, and it gets put down on said body part, that is THE WORST (especially sack)

this has been discussed already in Skiing magazine. down.. being "cool" isnt determined by if you leave the bar up or not.

donw because if the lift stops short you could fall out, or if the engines fail and the lift starts going backwards, you would fall off ond fall to you painful death

You're not going to fall off just riding a normal lift. Up.

There's only one time I wished I had a safety bar, and that was riding this super steep, tiny and fast chair back down the mountain. I had to hook an arm over the back or I seriously would have taken a loooonnngggg fall.

i have it up unless im on a high speed quad, just because when the stop short when some joey falls getting on or off, there have been times were i could have taken a plunge

uh since when? they never enforce that shit. I have never been asked to put the bar down by a patrol( even though i usually have it down anyway)

lol, just like BobYohan said, for some reason i also put it down when im cold...wierd.

and i usually have it down, i love the foot rests plus i would rather have some stupid bar down then fall 30feet onto hardpack and/or rocks. I hate it when people put down the bar without warning. Some dumb bitch fucking slammed it down on my knee.

she was with her little kids and the second we get on the chair like the exact second she reaches for the bar and literally slams it down! landed right on my fucking knee( and at my hill like none of the chairs have rubber on the handles, so it was pure steel) it hurt bad. She didnt even say sorry, she just said " Move your leg next time" ( and i know there was little kids, but whatever they will be introduced to swear words in a year or two anyway) so im like " FUCK YOU, WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THIK YOU ARE JUST SLAMMING THE BAR DOWN WITHOUT WARNING?" so i try to lift the bar up (my pants are stuck under the bar) but i cant because she is leaning on it, so i ask(slightly calmed down, but still extremely pissed) "uhmm could you get off the bar so i can get my pants out from under?" she goes " No need well lift the bar when we get to the top"

me-" Uh how about no, you already slammed it down on my knee, so im lifting this bar!"

Her-"NO!, i have two little kids which you already cussed infront of, and i dont want them falling"

Me-" FUCK YOU, im lifting this bar when i want ot now get the hell off"

she refuses, but in the end i over power her and lift up the bar for liek a second and get my pants out and put it back down.

me-"see that wasnt so hard"

her-" how dare you, you little unrespectful brat! i am notifying the ski patrol the moment we egt to the top so dont go anywhere!!"

me-"hahahahahaha!, ya like im going to listen to you. Thats funny. hahahaha!"

her-"have some respect, maybe ill be nice and not tell the patrol to tell your parents about this incedint"

Me-' HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! oh my god that is funny!"

we are now at the top so she lifts the bar and i ski away still luaghing my head off( sincerely laughing, not fake just trying to rub it into her face type laughing)

good times.....

hahaha having it down is considered uncool? you kids are trying too hard. personally, it all depends on my sitting position mood. if i just want to sit back and relax, i might keep it up because i don't feel like reaching up for it. but sometimes i like to lean against it and just stare at the ground, in which case i would bring the bar down. other factors like foot rests and wind block are key as well.

you must not get out much, lifties ask you to put the bar down everywhere in ontario (dagmar, kirby, blue, moonstone, craigsleith, alpine, georgian, osler, snow valley)

most places will even stop the lift if you don't put it down.

the only place where it hasn't been an issue is the badlands lift, but even that's changed.
