Sad State of Cliff Jumping

While BC is usually home to some amazing cliff jumping, this is a rather unfortunate year where there is considerable amounts of repairs to be done. The winter wind storms have wrought havoc across much of the province, including some of the most prime cliff jump spots.

At Brohm lake, the big rope swing is currently out of operation as a large tree has fallen in its path. Fortunately the tree with the rope is ok, but you cannot swing right now. In fact, the upper platform has been destroyed and the whole upper rock ledge is blocked by the tree.

At Lions Bay, trees have fallen across the secondary and more mellow access trail. While fallen trees prevented across one of the access trail and the wayside camp spot is trashed, there is considerable other work to do. The hammock needs repair to the access panel and the main panel. And worst of all, the diving board is cracked and can no longer be safely jumped. I hit it twice and felt it give really badly and heard a horrible sound. The diving board NEEDS to be replaced. It is my intention to throw the Beachies Classic this year as a fundraiser to replace the diving board, but the board is going to cost approx $1000 and take a bunch of effort.

I also plan on going to Brohm with a chainsaw at some point to clear the fallen tree and build a new launch platform. But I am a busy boy this summer with work and etc and there is lots of work to be done. I will keep you guys posted.

seymour river is prime, lynn canyon will be good soon when the water drops. quit your bitching and man up

James, Do a Cliff jumping demo at that place in White rock, or Lions bay where the tourists pay you money for your stunts,

Anyone been out lately??

I just came back from a friends cabin on Gambier and we did some sweet cliff jumping. Hows the Seymour and Lynn Canyon?

Seymour is good becuase the water is high, bigger jumps you dont hit bottom as hard.

lynn isn't as good because the water is high, the circuit isn't really all that safe. although 30ft is sitll good.

Went to Lynn 2 weeks ago, the only 30 footer there isn't great anyways as you always end up hitting rocks at the bottom and there's no room for much error.

I don't think anyone has taken the initiative to fix the diving board. I heard the original guys who put it in were going to do it, but I don't think it has been done yet.

lions bay diving board is still doneskis. i have looked into buying a new board, but is expensive enough for a shitty board. i am coming up with schemes to repair the current one. i'd like to stop by on my way down from whistler and grab it for repairs later.

on a [positive note, the new ropeswing at alpha lake is super dope. its on the same tree as the original one before it was cut down.

HAHAH i know the guys who has to cutt down all the rops swings in whistler. He gets soo pissed off at his job, he loves them , but they make him cut them down for liability issues or whatever. Ironically one day he was with his boss and trying to convince his boss that they shouldn't cut it down so he was demonstrating on it and be he hit bottom and broke his wrist.  But yeah...he trys to go slow and not hear about them.  It hilarious.

Lion's Bay is all cleared up but teh diving board is still fuckered... You can only run off it and it pretty much gives way under you. The rope swing is still good to go though.
