Russian 50mm prime lens

idk, thats just what @Honeylager said "The 28 has a really small rear element and it leads to vignetting on

crop sensors, but it's not that bad and still a nice piece of glass."

i was wondering the same thing, thats why i asked

Yeah it was taken on my 50D. It's not like a vignette that you would see in photoshop but if you look in the sky the blacks are saturated much more in a semi circle kind of. I didn't just make this up, I read it somewhere else too. Seriously though, the rear element is about this big: ( ) ... No joke.

Thanks! I'm deffo gonna pick one up then!

Have you got any experience with the 135mm f/2.5 perhaps? Worth getting that over the f/3.5?

How is it for video?

Got this deal:

Helios 44-2 - 30€

SMC Takumar 135mm, f/3.5 - 40€

Both for 70. Might be able to knock off another 10€ tops, probably not. Really want to do this I think. I'm just a bit hesitant on the 44-2...

Granted mine hasn't arrived yet, but from what I can tell its a really dope lens. $40 for a 58 mm f/2 prime with amazing clarity and bokeh seems like you really can't go wrong.

It's just that I don't know if I'll be using it a lot. It seems more like a really cool video lens to me than a still lens.

I don't have a DSLR that shoots vid yet, although I plan on upgrading.

Let's see how low I can get them both.

a 50mm (or in ur case a 58) lens is awesome for shooting stills! i have a vintage Ricoh 50mm f/2 that I love! using a fixed lens like that for pics forces you to get interesting angles and experiment with the lens rather than just zooming in and out to get the shot you think you want. (i was the same, i didnt think i would use the 50, but now I love it)

I pretty much only shoot with primes, not a big fan of zooms and their 'crappy' IQ (compared to primes that is).

I already have 50mm prime, it's just that I'm not a big fan of the 50mm focal length on a crop. I'd only get the 44-2 58 because of the cool, harsh bokeh - which I think is nicer for video than stills.

I really do want to get into video though, so picking one up wouldn't be bad I guess. It's just that I need to save money for the upcoming summer holidays... meh!

Canon 50mm f/1.8 mk II.

Not not-liking 50mm's because of the terrible AF and build on my Canon, but I just find the FL really annoying on crops. Either too long or too short.

Thats probably because its 90% plastic, aside from the glass.
The 1.4 50mm feels a lot better. I own one and think that its great although I have it on my t2i and the APS-C makes the focal length (roughly 85) difficult to manage.

That's what I mean. The build fucking blows. And just like you, I don't like it on a crop. The real 85mm equivalent is really shitty. I haven't heard much good things about the f/1.4. It's soft and doesn't focus really well either or something.

I really want a Sigma 30mm and a 85mm, probably a Samyang due to money.

Perfect lineup would be:

Samyang 14mm

Samyang 21mm

Sigma 30mm

SMC Takumar 50mm

Samyang 85mm

Canon 70-200 f/4 (IS)

All below 500$ and all SICK lenses with amazing IQ. I simply cannot afford more expensive stuff... Meh!

i dunno about those samyang primes, you could buy old manual primes and they'd be way better and probably cheaper

so here is my question: whats the difference between the takumar 28mm f/3.5 M42 mount and the same lens, f/2.8 with PK mount (aside from the obvious: f stop values and mount)? anyone know of a comparison?

Where do you guys find lenses like the ones posted in this thread? Google gives me links to other forums and ebay auctions that ended months ago.

maybe not the 14mm but you could get a nikon 20mm for like 100-200 bucks and a nikon 85mm for like 100-150 bucks and be way better than the samyangs.

gonna be tough, anything under 35mm gets over 100 dollars usually, unless you buy like a vivitar 20mm f3.5 then it will be kinda slow.

I see that the Helios 50mm comes in a Nikon "bayonet mount". Is that the same as the current Nikon F-Mount?

The canon 85 1.8 is much better than all the 85's listed. Such a phenomenal piece of glass and always overlooked.

SMC Takumar 135mm f/3.5 - 40€

Olympus Zuiko OM 28mm f/3.5 - 30€

Helios 44-2 58mm - 22€

92€.

Fucking baller. All on the way, hmmm!

Now I just need to scrape up money for the Canon 85mm and SMC Takumar 50mm. Possibly a 70-200 too, but that's for later times.

I'm going to buy a Helios 44-2 58mm but isnt the focal length going to change going from film to digital sensor? Anybody know about the size the shots will appear?

Actually, I made a mistake. I paid 22€ for the Olympus, and 30 for Helios. Even better eh!

I love German eBay!

It's like this:

SMC Takumar 135mm f/3.5 - 40€

Olympus Zuiko OM 28mm f/3.5 - 22€

Helios 44-2 58mm - 30€

______________________________+

92€.

Thanks I'll have to remember that. Also how do you like the Olympus 28mm f/3.5 TijmenDal? Once I find a 44-2 I might start looking for something a little shorter like that.
