Russ Henshaw Robbed and Assaulted

At approximately 3:35 pm MST professional skier Russ Henshaw sustained severe trauma to his slopestyle score when Dew Tour judges tackled and beat him down as he left the finish area at the bottom of the course. Alexi Godbout who is also an extraordinarily talented skier was nearly caught up in the action, however he was able to avoid the assailants but was powerless to do anything as he watched the brutal attack on Russ.

I'm stoked for Alexi. He crushed it with sick grabs and smooth style and deserved to be on the podium, but Russ threw down the slope run to end all slope runs and finished 12 points behind Alexi. I know all of you will say that this is a judged event and judging is subjective and if I don't like it I shouldn't watch etc. and so on. However, I've been around skiing and slope contests for a while now and I consider myself a pretty decent judge of slope runs. I can potentially see Russ not winning, but for him to not even be on the podium? That is good old fashioned robbery. It reminded me of when McRae didn't make slope finals at Aspen Open last year, to give an example for those of you who know what I'm talking about.

Agree on this one. Only thing i can think of is his first dub wasn't grabbed perfectly. Let go pretty early but that's just the only thing i can think of.

his run was insane that's for sure, but he reverted on his last jump, which is bassicaly a sketchy landing, which basically disqualifies you from making the podium. maybe he should have been scored higher but reverting in a slope run is illegal now a days so too bad,

stoked for godbout

False on the revert. He stomped and rode out switch for 50-75 feet and then reverted.

For a second lets say that is the case though. Does a late revert really make for a difference of 12 points?

i'm guessing he doesn't really know what he's talking about and he's just repeating what the announcer said like a dumb parrot.

yeah because russ' rails were so good.....what a joke, his score could of been a little higher, but robbed? no

the right dub was impressive, but alexis run was the only one that looked completely stomped and fluid start to finish

Godbout murdered the rails and that switch 2 prtz 2 on the rainbow was probably my favorite trick of the day. I believe Russ did disaster 2 up top into lip 2 then did uphill 6 out of the up. It was a solid rail run, however I agree that it certainly wasn't as good as Godbout's.

But there are 4 jumps and 3 rails in the course. And while Godbout has sick grabs and style on his jumps, Russ grabbed everything pretty well, STOMPED all of his jump and did two unnatty spins and two regular spins whereas Alexi only did one unnaty. Plus Russ did left dub 10 to right dub 12 back to back. That is retarded.

I wouldn't be so bent if the scoring discrepancy was only a few points and Russ was on the podium. But 5th? By 12 points? Sorry, that is robbery.

Also, I love how my karma is already dropping. Thanks NS.

I don't really like watching russ henshaw ski, but you are absolutely right, he got completely fucked. as for NS karma, I can't think of anything that matters less.

I saw the 82 I was like..

Didn't stomp that last jump. He went barely more than 10ft before reverting. The back to back dubs were sick and I was cheering for him, but in a comp like that you only revert on the last jump if the other option is falling.

to me he deserved to finish at least 3rd or maybe even 2nd. But alexi's grabs were so unreal. Oh and b-dog truck divering the rail was so sick!

Comps like this are always hard, he didn't do as well on rails, maybe a bit better on jumps, thats why there are judges. Of course it won't be perfect everytime, and when everyone is killing it, you can't really be that upset about other anyone winning.

I was standing next to the rainbow box during finals...and Russ's hits in that area were less than impressive. They looked pretty bad and penciled right there, I'm not sure why he chose that hit because I think that was one thing to really hurt him. His last two jumps were nuts though, it was awesome.

Yeah He did get robbed, but at the same time it's hard to decide who would get taken out in order to put him higher.

Completely agree, definitely should have been on the podium, doing dubs both right and left is insane.

I was shocked when they posted his score, thought he was top 2 for sure.

Alexis run was so sick and glad to see them score style and not just spins, stoked for him

alexis did 2 unnaty with his first rght nine and his rght dub flat so pretty much he deserve the win since he slide the first first rail and not kiss him and had different grabs in his run with style

godbout's run was good but in my opinion it didn't deserve a 94.50 due to a lack of difficulty.

and to all the people saying, "ahhh finally style got judged over spinning", russ right dubs are as stylish and smooth as other competitors sw left 10s!

wtf... The jump that he did the triple on was huge! Theres no way he could've done a triple on that jump...

What do you mean by lack of difficulty with a right nine and a right dub flat 9???

And he did it with style that's why he won and got a 94.5

Pretty much this. Everyone thinks Rus is just a big tech guy, but that run was one of the most stylish of the day, and definitely top 2 technical. It also seemed like his "revert" at the end was purposeful and just out of excitement on nailing his run. He should have been on the podium %100. It probably hurt him not having as well known of a name.

Actually, he was robbed. He came up to me and Ash B in the lodge after the competition and told us his Red Bull helmet got stolen.

I gotta say, I thought he literally got robbed and assaulted, and was going to post "+vibes, those Vietnam mobsters are cruel"...

but then I saw it's just people complaining about who positioned where which can't be helped..

I filmed right by the second judges tower during qualifiers, and Ill just say that there is a pretty good reason that they dont give out how.
Im pretty sure there was someone who qualified and didnt even hit the first feature on the course.
