Ruptured spleen?

Ok, so if any of you guys know about this, I'd appreciate it. So...
today at the Sunapee rail jam, they had a flat rail to butter pad with a 5-6ft drop off the end. I did the rail, and then tried to misty 5 (spinning to my left) off the butter pad. I underrotated, and landed hard on my left side on a pretty damn hard landing.
It killed when it happened, but I still skied the rest of the day and kind of forgot about it. Now that I'm home and trying to walk around though, I can barely walk/ do stairs.
Did I injure my spleen, or would I have been really lightheaded, dizzy, vomiting, pale, etc (which I had none of)???? thanks for the help

just a tid bit of info here but you can die from a ruptured spleen if I remember correctly, may want to head to a doctor?

First of all, if you can't walk, CALL A DOCTOR.

I think a ruptured spleen can be a progressive injury so it'll hurt more and affect you more as more blood accumulates in your abdomen. I am no medic, but I have just got mono and have been talking about spleens with my doctor (it's a risk with mono). I would for sure get it checked it, it is a potentially fatal injury.

having fallen 20 feet to flat and having the grip of my pole completly fracture my spleen i maybe can help you out. it hurt a little when it happened but just like any other fall. how ever it felt like i had to shit really bad. ski patrol diagnosed it as a stomach flu. when my mom came to pick me up tho i was pale as fuck and going into shock. if you feel any kind of pressure you need to get to the hospital for tests. internal bleeding is nothing to fuck with. the good news is that the reason a ruptured spleen is considered so deadly is because it most commonly happens when the spleen filters large amounts of pathogens or a virus from your blood stream. (mono, strep, etc). as long as you go get it checked out immediatley youll be fine. my accident was at the very end of the spectrum. most likely you wont be that fucked up but you still need a doc to look at you.

wow, so what happened to you? yea i think im healthy now in terms of strep flu mono etc., but I should see a doc tmr?

Patrol though you caught stomach flu from falling 20ft onto a ski pole!!? Were they on crack?

ya i was with one of my buddies who ruptured his spleen biking when he got a root right into his abdomen , the doc said that if he had waited anouther 2 hours to get to the hospital he would have died........ so its not really something to fuck around with

hope you feel better though

What a fucking retarded thread. Honestly. You think you might have a ruptured spleen and you are asking NS? I could see maybe if you like, hurt your finger, and were wondering if it was just broken or sprained. But an internal organ? You should probably be in the ER right now.

What's next, someone coming on to NS asking if we think they are having a stroke?

I was skiing with one of my buddies back in 7th grade and he fucked up his spleen. He just landed on his pole off a tiny jump. He told me wasn't feeling well and was going to go inside for a sec. 30 minutes later he was at the hospital.

So yeah, go see a doctor. Now.

OK asshole, I appreciate the post. The pain is much much better today, and I never felt dizzy etc., so I think I'm fine. I was just looking for advice from people whove had a similar injury, not people like you

Ok? You still should have gone to the doctor either way. Self-diagnosis may be fine in some situations, but not in something as serious as injuring an internal organ. And just because it hurts less today doesn't mean you didn't seriously fuck something up.

Well I checked out some medical books and my pain is more that at the top of my hip bone and just a little above that. Your spleen is quite a bit higher up, covered by your ribs....sooo I dunno

Like I said, trying to self-diagnose anything internal is just stupid. You're just asking to get fucked over in one way or another.

you might have a type 1 laseration. i had a type 5 out 5 last year on an underotated spin. at first it feels like a really bad stomach ache and you cant breathe. then once the internal bleeding begins, the pain becomes unbearable. ******but the main thing you have to looke for with ruptured spleens is a sharp shooting pain in the left shoulder. your diaphragm nerves are wierdly interlaced with that shoulder, so internal bleeding will set off these sharp pains. if you arent feeling imediate pain it is either VERY mild, or nothing at all.

yup thats exactly what I've read too. I have no sharp pain in my shoulder or stomach at all, and my breathing is perfectly fine. So for now, I think I'll just take it easy for a few days. Thanks alot for the good advice man. and thats pretty gnarly how big was the jump you ruptured your spleen on?

Go to the doc.. NOW! could be nothing or you could be fucked! a few weeks ago someone was just telling me a story about a kid who fell in the park doing something and he felt okay, but not great so he went inside. that night they went to check on him and it's a damn good thing they did because he had like a redic. fever and would've died by morning because of his spleen. so dude, please go.

dude i landed on my side trying mistys off an up box this weekend and fucked my wrist and leg up, shit hurts a lot. i donno about the spleen, but id call a doctor now

i had a class 4 or 5 spleen laceration when i was like 13 and i dont think you would be in the condition to be typing if this had happened. shooting pain in the shoulder is instant and i was going into shock within a few hours. you would be pale form blood loss into your abdomen pretty soon aftewards and my stomache swelled up like a baloon. i didnt need it removed but it was close.

yea so from what i hear i think im all set, apparently a ruptured spleen is much more serious than i initially though. thanks for the input.
