In the past 2 years I've gotten super into long distance running. Me and my brother use this site to keep competitive with each other.
What is it: It's a great organized site you use to track your distances, workouts whether it be through swimming, running or biking. You can plot your route, and it has a great community built around the site. If anything it will inspire you do get some extra miles in.
You can join and use it for many different sport workouts such as spinning, weight lifting, cycle, cc skiing, walking, rock climbing, yoga, eliptical, cross training, rowing and others. It is a continual source of inspiration and helps keep me on track.

They also send you an e-mail every Sunday night, as a report on your week of training. I am a geek for statistics so I find that, is great to have.
 
this looks like a really good site. and if you are still looking for some good shin splint stretches, stand on some stairs with your heels hanging over the edge and do some calf raises. that will strengthen up your shins in no time.
