at least in utah, its supposed to be the biggest winter there has been in 15 years. my family has bees and last year we only got about 15 gallons of honey. this year, so far, (we still have another harvest) we have just over 47 gallons. i think they are stocking up. anyone else heard anything about a great winter?
 
this is so awesome. you just started talking about bees. so i had to read the post 3 times to finally get it. golden.
 
Yea i herd the same, some time in the 80's there was a three year great winters and last year was sopposally the start of the beggining of three again. word
 
i dont understand the correlation between the winter snowfall and the honey from the bees, but i would love both
 
ok first off I HATE BEES. Now, I think its so cool that we can tell how a season may turn out just from the animals and how they act and get ready for the season. I hope your right, its going to snow here in enver tonight, im near the foothills and there calling for snow. SWEEEET. Loveland is trying to open Frrday, October 17th. I have been ready to ski since June.
 
the thing i wanna know is.....they wont be able to create honey in the winter any ways... if winter is alway the same length whay would they need more honey than the usual 15 gallons of last year?
 
oh yeahhhhh! i definitely believe animals have that 6th sense. didnt like all the birds and stuff leave the shores of indonesia right before all the tsunamis?

first rule of utah now should be dont talk about utah!!! all day long anytime it snows or ho much it snows because soon you wont even beable to take one powder run inbounds because its going to get so played.

newschoolers has turned into a sewing circle talking about utah. omg the bees are lining up with the stars and the planets, and there was an early frost but not late, it snowed! it might snow, alta might get 2-3 feet, and there was a thunderstorm in july. this season is going to be epic because you know its 2 big years a lower year and 2 big years. NOT

Yeah, but hasn't there been a pretty steady decline of honey bees over the past few years? I remember reading about scientists investigating the disappearance of them.
 
bees collect pollen from flowers, ok flowers grow with water right, 06-07 there was like NO WATER, so the flowers cant grow and the bees cant make honey.

compared to winter 07-08 LOTS snow means lots of water seeps into the earth and runs down stream grows LOTS OF FLOWERS, so your bees made lots of honey this summer.

there is suposed to be 20 to 30 percent more snow in the north west this year over last season, and its suposed to be quite a bit colder as well, so you know what that means, riding the ohsu tram in portland to ski donw that big hill, hoooray urban ski lifts
 
how are the "its snowing in utah" threads not like a sewing circle oh yea we arent all old ladies....but come on dude is all of this necessary? its a huge pet peeve, every thread about utah gets into more peoples eyes then more people come to college here, and totally ski bum it up. then i ski less powder and get more bitter. and the more its talked about the less it comes. as im sure everyone has noticed from the last storms.....

last weekend......zomg!! its gonna snow 3 feet in alta!!! well guess what it snowed like a few inches. this weekend there are threads about how much its gonna snow and guess what a few inches..... SO SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

 
i think that 100 percent. because when kids who most everyone on here is, see shit well it snowed in utah again where are they going to start looking at colleges....utah. or to move somewhere utah. the internet is involved 100 percent in the playing out of utah. PC is already played out so now the cool thing to do is the canyons soon canyons is gonna be ""played" grizzly gulch has like 1948329478 jumps in it at all times...alta is beat in 10 minutes, the backcountry gets hounded..... record snow years doesnt help the situation either. but.....most of the people i have met in utah are NSers who obviously for some reason overlooked the mormons, and shitty beer, shitty traffic, and the fact that they probably at one point like myself didnt even think you could ski here.

 
Yeah i heard of this rumor also. I heard it on the radio or something. It is hard to believe that we could have a better year than last year but if we do HELL YEAH i can't wait.
 
soooo youre saying you hate on HONEY... like comon dude, honey is so sweet, its like sugar but in 10x better. you ebetter check your priorities next time you post.
 
im with smuggs. stay out of my utah! i grew here, you flew here. surface has shirts that say that. not even kidding.
