How many of you play rugby? I'm supposed to be starting playing pretty soon, and i'm just curious of what you guys think of it? I'd also like to know some of the basics etc, it's like an intramural club so i'm sure they'll be explaining all of that to us, i'd just like to get the basics beforehand if possible. Thanks

yeah i play at the highschool level and i love it a lot. As for some rules obviously you can only pass backwards, the ball is kind of like the line of scrimmage so you gotta be behind it, uhh they should cover most other stuff and a lot of it you just pick up as you play, that's awesome that you have intramurals for it that's rare. stick with it!

yea, its a college intramural that they are trying to make into a full varsity sport. I've always been interested in it but never had a chance to play so i'm pumped for this

i played in high school and i play in college now. its totally a good time. the culture is unparallel, but you really gotta have the mindset to stick with it

My areas local team played this hardcore rugby team and one kid's head got his head cut open from metal cleats cause this guy ran over him. Gushing blood. Be careful of metal cleats.

I play prop for my college team. Its an awesome sport. Unfortunately i just broke my fibula and tore a bunch of ligaments in my ankle getting talked weird on the 5m. But dont let that turn you off because ill be back out there in the spring.

yea the only part i'm at all nervous about is the injuries. I don't mind getting knocked around a bit but i've heard players get some brutal injuries.

only injuries i've ever had are concussions, and you can get a cap for those if you want one.

Injuries definitely depend on whether you play forward or back. Forwards have a lot harder contact. Great sport sooooo much fun. Get ready to drink your balls off.

oh hell, concussions? Not a huge deal to me, i also play soccer as a goalkeeper so i'm no stranger to concussions and things of that nature. Never had a major one or too many of them, but i've had them

Well Forwards are taking more of the shunts and punches, against forwards who are lined up on the post. That was my point. It has nothing to do with speed, it's momentum, and forwards are a lot bigger.

I play.. as for basic rules there's no blocking.. so don't do that. can't drop the ball forward.. your coach'll teach you

dont pass back inside your 22 and kick it out on the full. any part of your body touching the line will count as out

obviously the ball has to be passed back

dont tackle above the shoulders

dont tackle someone that doesn't have the ball

i'm sure you'll pick it up

fujarome: msg me, i coach a highschool team and i used to play college ball in canada, im a 2-time provincial champion...ill help in any way i can.

wow, great. I never realized how much support and help NS can give a person. Tomorrow we have the first meeting so i'll be sure to come back with any questions

well we had the first meeting today. The other guys seem like great guys, and the people organizing seem to really know what they're talking about. It looks like its gonna be a shitload of fun and i really cannot wait til we start learning more/playing later this week

Rugby is an awesome game, and you actually get hurt a lot less than you do in other sports. I've been hurt more playing football in 2 months than playing 3 years of rugby on both the junoir and senior teams as a grade 9, then a grade 10. Flank is the position to go for, you basically just tavkle the entire game, its awsome. But yeah, good luck and I hop you enjoy it as much as i do.
