Rugby players of NS

RUGBY! WOOO. I used to play in HS. did a bit in college but since I bummed my shoulder up I had to quit. I played just about every position in the back, had the most fun as outside/inside center, and ended up as a winger once we got a solid team.

Loved the game, was my favorite sport ive ever played.

Don't play but I go to pretty much all of my ex-girlfriends new boyfriends games....he is like one of the best in the nation and he plays for Edinboro University .... fun game to watch wish i played it as a kid

Played Flanker. Preferably blindside, but played a fair bit of openside as well.

Blown my knee out too many times, so no longer play competitively.

Captain of my HS team and County Club / Claim

My natural position is scrummy but, I've played a fair bit of wing and fly.

I'm actually going to Uganda this summer to build community through rugby - fun stuff.

i played with a city club from the age of 7 and played in high school, but i haven't played a proper game since i was 16. fun sport, was good for letting my anger out and keeping me in great shape. people (mainly dad) are always telling me to get back into it but i dunno if i even could now, i'm not in rugby shape anymore.

dont play rugby but ofcourse living in nz its a big part of my life. plus rugby is the main sport at my school, producing more all blacks than any other school!Check out just a normal game for the 1st XV at my school so crazy, broadcast on tv and like 5000 people go.

At the final last year 12000 people went...

Which Super Rugby team do you support?

I play flyhalf at the moment but have played wing and fullback, hoping for an England win tonight against Wales!

Stuart Lancaster has done wonders turning around that monstrosity of a team Martin Johnson left him with.

haha i thought you had posted the kings vs grammer fight they had a few years back. Yea i played for 8 years, flanker mostly. In NZ rugby is the national sport, best in the world at it too

Very true. England are playing well and winning with some good young players coming through but there are still areas to improve which isn't a bad thing.

Oh yea, seeing as the all black are best in the world ill leave this here

the blues, was a depressing time last year but this year is looking good. Im not the biggest fan but theyre my local team and i live 5 mins from eden park so i go to heaps of their games. Im a big glasgow warriors fan actually! top of the table atm, lets hope for a good finish to the season!

@bread was actually grammar vs kelston, that was off the fucking hook! this years looking good for the 1st XV, should atleast make the semis

Hate to burst your bubble mate, but the only reason Grammar produces that many ABs is because you have twice as many kids at your school as pretty much anywhere else. CBHS has almost the same amount of ABs and is half your size (look it up). And that "normal game" is the biggest annual derby in the North Island, let's be honest...

I am an English Crusader so hasn't been the best start to the season so far. As an England supporter I am jealous of all talent you have, especially in the backs! We could do with borrowing a couple of wingers like Frank Halai and Lelia Masaga. Rene Ranger has been on fire so far this year so could be successor to Conrad Smith

This isn't to all english people, just the arrogant pricks claiming you were definitely going to win.

yea cbhs is definately one of the best rugby schools in nz, ill give you that. how many go to cbhs vs st bedes?

and st kents blew everyoje out of the water this year, reckon anyone will be able to stop them?

i wouldnt worry about the crusaders for long, they smashed the bulls last night 41-19! and its great to see rene ranger has matured he was always such a dumb player, making wrong decisions, he is going to be a great player! john kirwan has definately made a big change in the blues camp, everyone is really excited about the blues this year

Yeah, they struggled first couple of games but this morning they looked good, Robbie Fruean is coming into form and I think this season might be his breakthrough season into the AB's. Missing Ritchie though. Not a bad coaching team with John Kirwan and Graham Henry so it should be a good season for them!

fruean is very unlucky, everyone in nz thinks he is up to standard to play in the ABS's, even the coaching staff. But this heart condition is what is keeping him back from selection apparently. taken from a news article- "Aged 23, Fruean has plenty of time to mature but to see him with hands on hips in the final 10 minutes of matches is a worry, said Bunce. Fruean has previously admitted his fitness has been affected by the open-heart surgery he had several years ago to repair a condition known as pancarditis."

I am happy to see richie taking a break, this will enable a new no.7 to come through such as sam cane- from what ive seen of him he could be the next mccaw

As good as Fruean is, I don't think he'll make the AB's. Conrad getting the starting spot is a given, but there's still Tamati Ellison and Ben Smith(though I hate the idea of a fullback playing center) in front of him for the back up. Though, with Rene Ranger going overseas, and Fruean still relatively young, I wouldn't be surprised if he did make the AB's in the next year or so.

Conrad is going on a 'sabbatical' like Richie in November I think so that door might open up for him. Ben Smith wont move Izzy but he is good enough to play centre.

Did you see Savea on Izzy last week, he has awesome power- like a young Lomu

I know many SKC Old Boys who admit that they poach like crazy, hence why they are only getting good now. If they keep that up, who knows?

Not sure about Bede's numbers, but the main derby in Christchurch is actually between Christ's and CBHS, having been played since 1892. CBHS have regained the mantle of "best in CHCH" so they should be vying for Top Four once again in the next year or two, depending on how Otago and Nelson Boys' perform.

sorry i thought beads and cbhs was the big one. yea nearly every single person in the kents 1st XV is on scholarship, they dont breed any of their own players. all the schools not from schools south auckland poach now like grammar brought in Konrad Hurrell all the way from Tonga just to play rugby, so crazy.

how many go to cbhs vs christs?

nothing against rugby, I just don't care about it at all. I just came in here to offer my .02, which is as follows:
fuck France

my friend just got asked to join the usa rugby team like the "us olympic rugby team" there adding rugby.

Yeah, it's a complete farce.

Five odd years ago you'd get anywhere between 4,000 - 6,000 depending on the year, these days it's more like 3,500 because they breath test all spectators (incl. parents) which means Old Boys can't turn up drunk anymore haha.

I played in my first game this last weekend and it was awesome! The team I play for is a Mens Div 2 team and not going to lie our team is stacked. Tons of ex div1 football and wrestlers. a few big islanders. I have college football and track background and this is a fun game. Looking forward to the rest of the season. last year the team took 7th in San diego at the national tourney. looking to take it all this year!

Just played my last high school game today. We won 56-27. I'm a prop, but at 5 ft 4 and 135 pounds, it's not exactly the best position to play haha hopping to play for ub next year! I'll probably be a back tho considering I'm pretty small to prop.

i played through high school where my team won state and out scored our opponents 375-65. 250 of those points were mine from inside center. just finished my last college rugby game against our alumni and scored 5 try's. I have played every sport possible and rugby is hands down my all time favorite sport. I am considering training and working towards playing at a higher level. been asked just never had the time maybe that time is now...

fuckin a! I'm about to play my fourth and last year on the u19 Oregon all state team. They're called the Red Hawks. We're playing the Washington Loggers in a week! Then Idaho, Possibly Montana, Utah, NoCal, SoCal, Utah, Colorado and I think Wyoming's putting together a team but I'm not sure
