Roxy skis?

according to detective it is the trouble maker?? from what i see, it resembles the trouble maker more

Nobody on this site appreciates shit. All you girls are hypocrites.

one minute: "Blah blah, support girls.. girls together, blah blah"

next: "girl only companies are lame"

Fucking make up your minds.

No. We're not all hypocrites. We just find something wrong with the fact that companies want to make money off of us, yet refuse to deliver REAL coverage of women's skiing. When was the last time you saw a cover shot of a chick skier actually skiing? Hell, when was the last time you saw a chick skier in a photo spread? Likely, you have to scrap your brain to think of just one example. Snowboarding magazines however, regularly have pictures of their female athletes. It just seems that if companies were really as focused as they say they are on women's skiing, the rest of the industry would be down with it as well. Granted, I'm not saying that there isn't SOME coverage being given, and events like the Queen's Cup are fucking rad... I just want to see some kind of sign from that industry that women are not just a novelty, which they can get money from.

"yet refuse to deliver REAL coverage of women's skiing."

Comapnies aren't responsible for magazine / media coverage of skiers (although some companies reward skiers with cash and incentives when thier photos are published). So what your saying doesnt hold.

Have youe ever picked up a copy of freeskier? Ever seen one of thier "women of freesking" features? Companies are making an effort by catering to women.. magazines are making efforts to cater to women. Maybe instead of making bullshit excuses, its time for women to step up to the plate and demand recognition rather than ask that it be handed to them.

"We just find something wrong with the fact that companies want to make money off of us"

Stop being all "anti power". Companies are made to make money.. thats how a capital based society works.. get used to it. Businesses dont always do things ebcause they are friendly and nice, they do things because they have employees and stockholders who have families to feed. Obviously they want to be on good terms with thier target demo, and in some rare cases, the people in charge are actually very connected with the customers, but in the end, its a business. Grow up and go read a book on ecopnomics.

for sure man,(newschool) skiing is getting big. but it definately isn't gettiong overly big overly fast, so just relax, let companys do what they want to do as long as they are supporting skiing and just fuckin ski wiouth getting caught up in all the crap, you people need to get off this website and go ski.

what about all the oakley ads with gretta (cant remember last name) and all those other chicks. last time i checked..there was at least one girl in an average ski movie.as for media coverage...are you talking about sporting events? when girls compete....yes they are covered...but when there are no girls competing in a freestyle comp..how do you expect them to cover that?..when they do compete, and they do well..they are noticed by everyone.

"yet refuse to deliver REAL coverage of women's skiing"

I wasn't talking about the companies. I was referring to the industry as a whole.

"Ever seen one of their 'women of freeskiing' features?"

Yes, I certainly have, which reinforces my opinion that the industry tends to view women as a novelty.

"maybe instead of making bullshit excuses, its time for women to step up to the plate and emand recognition rather than ask that it be handed to them."

I agree with you entirely, I didn't intend to communicate a different opinion. But tell me, why aren't chicks like Grete and Ingrid in a few more mags? They have skill. You can't deny that. Ingrid and others are skiing super super gnarly terrain, comparable to the men in this sport, and they definitly have photographers following them around. So why aren't their shots getting in the magazines? Women ARE stepping it up. Yet, the support for this seems to only be present when there's dollars to be made, or in a special feature on Women.

"businesses dont always do things because they are friendly and nice, they do things because they have employees and stockholders to have families to feed."

Yes, I understand this. I wasn't trying to make my post fueled with angst for The Man and corporate america. That was not my intention, and was not the point I wanted people to overly consider.

I care more about women skiing getting the type of documentation that women's snowboarding is getting. I would like to see pro women skiers being treated like professionals, rather than purely models to sell product. (and no, don't quote me on that and get into the "all pros just sell product", I think you know what I'm trying to say)

that makes sense, yes. but also it is the pros like gretta and ingrid that need to say some shit. like he said^ theyneed to step up. it is not going to change if we just sit around on our computers typing about it.you guys need to make the move to change that sortof stuff. alot of people would be behind something like that but it is thewomen that need to make a change.

If you really think back.. to the time when say.. SNOWBOARDING was really starting to take off, do you remember seeing any girls in the mags really? Maybe a Tara Dakides here and there... but nothing more than we have here today in freeskiing. I can only see roxy skis as a positive thing. Sure, they suck this year, but think towards the future. They will upgrade thier skis and the company will probably break off from dynastar and become its own ski department within quiksilver. Thats just about the same thing that Roxy boards did several years ago when they started making decent boards. They were initially really shitty quicksilver boards that were nothing special, and still arent, but then when they broke off, they started making pretty decent boards that pro snowboarders are even strapping into. It took roughly 15 or more years from the advent of snowboarding for a womens specific brand to come out and be decent.. Its taken about 10 years for that same company that first made female specific snowboarders to start making women specific skis. In about 1 or 2 years they will probably be pretty decent skis, being that rossi and dynastar, 2 of the most pivitol companies in freeskiing, to work on it and who knows, roxy might one day become a really really big company, they have tons of potential to do so. It just goes to show how much today's culture appriciates women, for a brand that is specific to females to come out with female specific skis, just 5 or so years after they first did it with snowboards.

It hurts me to see that only 9 girls signed up for the Siver Young Gun open, when hundreds upon hundreds of guys did. There was at least 2 girls in that comp that really showed up and did well, chances are that the others were just there because they were either cocky or they wanted to meet hundreds upon hundreds of skier guys. who knows, I wasnt there to see the whole thing, but it pains me to see, when such a competition rolls around where if you win you are automatically sponsored, to see only NINE women show up for the event, in colorado of all places where im sure there are more than 9 girls that freeski, and are eligible for entry.

roxy can only help the sport here by introducing these skis, Sure, they may not be much right now, and 3 out of the 4 skis arent even twintips, but just wait, this is the first year of skis, most ski companies start out with one, maybe 2 pairs of skis. Give them 1 or 2 years, they will only improve.

Roxy skis will introduce girls to skiing, make them exited to ski, and maybe even enough for them to buy a brand like armada or ninthward that is uber core, and there will be more women each year in competitions, and not just 10 or so in each, even the X-games was dissapointing to me.

I would love to see more chick skiers on the mountain who can rip it in the park.. The majority of girls are snowboarders. those little girls who have been skiing since they were 4 years old, but think snowboarding is cooler cuz roxy is a brand will no be able to see roxy as a skiing brand too, and keep skiing and improving and one day be those Sarah Burkes and Kristi Leskinens that shred every pipe they drop into.

wow.. that's a low blow.. i know a shitload of skier girls and not ONE of them is like that. maybe some are cocky, but they have the skiing to back it up.

I might have been making that assumption based on where I live and the culture present. There is rarely if ever a newschooler chick on the mountain, and if there is, they ussually arent that tight, they just look like they should be.

Northern California is more of a snowboard haven, for whatever reason, probably just because its where snowboarding really was started? Im not sure really, but in the whole state, theres a good chancet that whatever mountain you ski at, you will find at least 65-70% of the people on the mountain are boarders, with squaw valley being the only real exeption, where there is more of a 50-50 ratio ski-board, but it gets more snowboard the further south you get, go to mt high and its 97% snowboarders on any given day.

So in this state its rare to find really good skier chicks in the park, I was reacting on what I experience on any given day and not thinking about how it is in other parts of the country where skiing is more prevelant than it is in cali.

Nevertheless, There still needs to be more women in competitions, Sara Burke is always fighting for a womans division in every event, Women need to take advantage of that. You look at snowboarding, see the attention paid to that... all the TV coverage and such.

I want the same to happen for skiing. I want both male and female skiers to be viewed on the same page, just like Tara Dakides would be viewed no worse than Danny Kass when it comes to boarding.

Skiing has a good foundation, but I would like to see more girls stepping it up. Its going to happen, but Im just anxious :D

yeah the roxy skis are made by both rossingol and dynastar but i have the wista pros (the only twins) and they have been put to good use but mostly rails for me....the best part is the womens flex and specifics they have for them! i got them through the rep thou id rather have bought arw's but the roxy ones are good for just about everything

They only recently made skis, snowboards came first. I have Roxy Ski, I dont like them that much. There okay, i guess. Id rather have ARW's.

Well roxy may not have the most tech gear yet. Our only girl rider on our team just got picked up by roxy. I think it's more positive than bad. roxy/quicksilver are taking notice!

Skiing is coming up! who knows mabey volcom is next?

^^^^^^ this is just it. There are too many stupid people in the world. Regardless of everything that has been said and the fact that all the Roxy skis are the same as the Dynastar skis with diff top sheets for the most part, I would conisder Dynastar actually to be the most "technical" ski company out there, there are still gonna be people like this.

Roxy is definitely one of the coolest new additions to freeride skiing.

It is safe to say, this 2008 Roxy Alakazam binding mounted on this 2008 Atomic She-Devil, made me into this monster:
