Just to clear the confusion about whether rossignol skis will be branded differently with the acquistion by quicksilver, according to yesterday's WSJ, Quicksilver is gonna produce a women's ski line by Roxy, but the men's stuff will still be Rossi.

I dont think its cool, i dont want flowers and butterflies on my skis! I think it pointless making a female line of skis, some girls ride just as hard as guys...we dont need a special ski!

dude, where in my post did i say anything about butterfiles and fairies and other girlie stuff?? nowhere.

the reason i said i thought it was cool is that it shows that the sport is growing and there are more women becoming interested in the sport. just because companies start producing women's skis doesn't mean they ahve to be covered in girlie shit. i mean look at the upcoming chick skis: miss demeanor, line celebrity, line shadow. none of these are covered in butterfiles...they are just built more specifically for girls...namely they are a bit softer because women tend to weigh less than men.

anyway, i think i've clarified myself. i know plenty of chicks that ride harder than most guys.

It is not a matter of pride in having (in your mind) inferior skis. Physically, we as men and women are different. This is a fact.

This is why countless FEMALE athletes have developed these products with various companies.

Some girl's like the way current skis perform and hey, more power to ya, ride what works for you. As stated above, not all girls are as strong as guys and do prefer a tad bit softer of a flex as well as more of a forward mounting position. That is more obvious in models outside of women-specific twin-tips.

Again, this happening because women are asking for it! They want women specific marketing, they want to know that a compnay listens to a large and continuously growing group of athletes and they want products that reflect that.

 
Ladies Ladies, just because you ride just as hard as guys doesn't mean that you are not physically different. The womens specific will probably have a flex pattern that is easily manipulated by females who tend to be more centered and balanced around their hips. I hope that they dont have butterflies and fairys either, if they do i hope no one i ski with buys them, cause i won't be associated with that in any way.

I dont like the idea of Roxy makin ski's at all, when i think roxy, i think surf...i like rossignol better..

 
i dont object to a womens line of ski, i object to roxy making them. why bring surf companies into this? whn was the last time line or armada made a surfboard? exactly

hmm... they made a roxy snowboard this past season that is the shittiest quality.. i hope the skiis arnt too.

 
look at what K2 did making the misdemeniors, they are pretty sick...and they're a "girl" ski

i like a girly twist to a ski but it still have all the guts to a ski that any other park ski does.

it will definitely get more girls into skiing because roxy is a pretty well respected and sought after brand of girls stuff. the middle school age kids will see the roxy logo on the skis and want them

 
hmm..not too sure how i feel about that..oh wait - it sucks. that's how. but then again, they are tapping into the power of brand association, which will likely turn out a profit...which i suppose is the aim of having a company, so i can understand their reasoning behind the action

they make snowboards for girls as well. along with bindings and boots. so it's not like a clothing company that's going to start making skis.

 
They don't make snowboards. They are made by Libtech and they have Roxy logos on them. If it happens, it will probably be the same with skis. Made by a reputable ski company, with Roxy logos.

yeah i loooove women specific gear but im always too tall or big for that stuff. they need to make womens gear for female giants. now THAT would be sick!

i think its cool that they are making skis specifically for girls not that they need it now more girls will get inot it and yes there are some girls at my slopes that are better than me so just chill out this will just get more girls in our sport

yeah its deffinatly a verry respected brand for girls .. roxy has sponsered a couple snowboarders.. like stackhouse, bright and waite... i wonder when then pick up some skiers on their team

maybe next yr the "roxy chicken jam" will be lady boarders annnnd skiers?

 
I'm not so sure if it will work. It's true that lots of girls see Roxy as a cool brand - but this is regarding clothing etc. and definitely not skis or boards. They don't have the competence in this area. I definitely wouldn't want to be seen with Roxy skis!

 
if there going to be rossi scratch's construction and style just with roxy graphics and a womens ski template, they might have potential.

Line, K2, Liberty, Armada?, there must be a couple other that are tapping into the female twin market, why not Rossi with a Roxy label?

it'd be great just if they went for a mainstream market to introduce more people into skiing. Anything to make skiing look somewhat cool to those who arent aware of what 'newschool" is.

have you ever tried to ride anything by Roxy?

i do not want roxy skis. i really dislike this idea. i hate seeing roxy in the water; its a marker of girls who cant surf and came from the valley in their roxy gear. seeing roxy snowboards sends up a red flag for me, and now roxy skis? oh god.

granted, they do have some killer surfers on their team. Kassia is one of my idols, she's got sick style and is funny as fuck.

maybe i just hold a grudge because they cancelled their surf in Santa Cruz and Capitola, which my girls and I were all in every year for years... weird...

heres a good question: do you think companied like Doir and Chanel have good snowboard and surfboards? on one hand, theyre high-name companies and can afford to pay good designers to make their gear... but on the other hand, theyre high-design companies and know people will but it for the name brand... oh weird that sounds just like roxy...

This is stupid... he's now the army's greatest asset. Why would they assign him to Antarctica? WE'RE NOT FIGHTING PENGUINS HERE, PEOPLE. They should have him skiing lines in the dunes, picking off terrorists with his homing poles as they gape at his massize switch 9 over Abdul's Gap. - JDMay on T$

 
1) why are you complaining that there is now another option of what to ski on?

2) Candide has quicksilver googles. while he is not skiing on them, so what, I don't hear people bitching about oakley because their googles are also used for motorcross or ghast!!!! snowboardering.

3) Who cares who else buys the brand. If it is wicked sweet gear, ski on them hard. It is basically a rossi ski with a different topsheet!!!

4) what is wrong with a surf brand? If there were waves closser than powder, I would have a surfboard, and so would you.

5) If the roxy skis blow chunks once they are produced then feel free to rip the shit out of them, but until then, give me a break.

6) creating a womens ski is not diminishing the abilities of female skiers. slapping a new topsheet onto some grom skis is, but not creating new skis based on rider info etc.

Roxy has made Snowboards for a while now! I can see how now being able to take advantage of this new area quicksilver has now entered.

I think it's good that a company like quicksilver/roxy have noticed the potential in our great sport, but i don't think that an all ladies line should be branded Roxy, if it takes it away from rossignol.

Does this mean anything different for Rossignol supporting female skiers etc or is it Roxy using there new aquisition to increase sales under the roxy branding.

Rossignol has been in the sport for many years, and i think that if Roxy are to move into making a ski line for women, it should be kept seperate. Obviously now Quicksilver will have access to Rossignol's technology and knowledge & you would think the skis should be manufactured to a high level.

I just hope that the decision made will only push our sport to greater levels, instead of causing a company which has done considerable good damage.

 
i really dont understand why everyones ripping on these skis when

1. they are not even close to out yet theyre just thinking of doing it

2. ROSSIGNOL will be manufacturing them so if you rip on these go ahead and rip on scratches too

3. i personally think its a good buisness idea for quiksilver who just aquired rossignol to incorprate one of there other many other brands into rossignol

4. i really dont understand why girls hate girl specific skis 99 percent of the time there designed and tested by pro GIRL riders who want them

i dunno.. its hard to have an opinion on them until they are out... im pretty excited to see them and ride them when they are released tho.

 
the roxy skis were in this year's freeskier buyer's guide. looks like they all come with bindings mounted ranging from $290 to $825. of course they have very girlish graphics and are prob light as hell. its cool for girls and im glad the sport is growing but i'd never go near there...
