Rossignol, you made a stupid choice

it's interesting that they brought the scratch back

on another note next years squad 7s are likely to be the best freeride chargers on the market

And this x 10000000. I rode my s5's this year and had so much fun. Light, soft, playful, bombproof. That with a pair of fks and you can't ask for a better ski imo

True true. I just finished watching All. I. Can. for the third time, dope movie, and at least 1/3 of the riders are riding s7's!

Im riding the scimitars and scratchs this year for sure. Put it this way, if it was groomed in the morning when I arrive, I would ride the scratchs, if it was variable whether terrain or whether I went with the scimitars. IMO most versatile ski I've ridden, a lot of fun too.

The two pairs of rossignols I've owned have been the most durable skis I've ever ridden. Although, my original Armada AR5's are still kicking it too, barely. For the person who mentioned Addicts... ha fucking ha, like skiing on 2X4's.

Seriously? The X-games are a huge selling point, people that don't pay attention to skiing at all watch pipe because its one ESPN, and Candide is a pretty popular athlete.

To OP, seeing as a lot of people don't know what last years graphic looked like, they will just buy the skis because they are new. I think it was a pretty good move by Rossi honestly.

since there are so many people who have rode the s4/scratch , i thought ut would be a good place to ask abot the flex; so does anyone know how the flex and pop of the scratches compares to t halls or line chronics?

In the US, yes... But europe had an amazing season, if anything the economy will affect ski sales over the poor snow.

Rossignol skis are generally great - I've ridden on the S3's and S4's in the past and loved both of them (although watch out for the sprayers - worst set of skis I have ever owned). However, the rest of their business where I am from isn't up to scratch (bdmm chhhhtt - see what I did there) - I used to work in a major ski shop who refuse to carry rossignol skis now because their (and their distributor's) aftercare / support / complaints & warranty procedures are so poor and such a ballache.

I think it's fair to say that with Rossi you get the benefits of a massive and acomplished ski manufacturer in terms of construction and quality, but that the focus is definitely not on the freeski side of the industry.

yeah the snow eventually came to the EU but it was too little too late...

when snow doesn't fall until after Christmas, retailers were screwed even with the snow

really? where did their team go? whats the last intuitive ski they made? maybe they did their thing with the S7s... but not really. any unique park skis? tyring something new? NOPE.

media? none.

idk i think they still make some dece skis, but they could be killing it so much harder, they need to take advantage of media again and stack up a young team, not drop all their best athletes as they did a couple years ago....

its called Business.. Rossi makes solid skis that are tried and true and still sell. They do not need to waste money on R&D if their consumer base remains consistent and satisfies stockholders. They also do not need a stacked team of young greedy kids to sell their skis. Your 270 on and afterbang out does not sell a ski. I've been buying their skis for the last 12 years (scratch, scratch FS, scratch WRS, S4, and now the S6 (sickle)). I know what i'm getting each time.

this. they should stack up a young team of skiers who are popular on NS, treat them right, and then put together a sick series of edits to advertise their new and awesome skis. It works for K2 and line and pretty much any other company that has its shit together. It's weird they can't see it, because they do make good skis and they have the opportunity to really kill it if they recognize what NSers want.

Your right, they should totally cater to a bunch of kids with no buying power. You are mistaken if you think Line and K2's best selling ski's are park ski's.

As stated before companies like Rossi make their big money off of the general skiing, and rental market. to think that NS is the answer to Rossi's problems is a fucking joke.

And I will guarantee you that out of 10 NS'ers that demand and say they will buy a certain design only about 2 would actually come through and drop the cash.

Most kids on this site are more concerned with buying the latest ski fashions than the best ski's.

The only real power of NS'ers is the ability to vote for their flavor of the month skier in online poll's.

so you're telling me Rossi should just give up on twin tip sales? You do realize twin tip skis are the fastest growing segment of ski sales right now?

Fastest GROWING, but far from the cap, and will doubtfully ever be top of the list. Not saying they should stop making twin tip ski's, but complaining that they didn't change the topsheet is assinine. The reality is that if the ski is good, and has not changed, keeping the same topsheet is not necessarily a mistake. I'm sure they hardly sold enough last year to justify the extra cost of redesigning graphics.

Do you know what Line's best selling ski is?

Do you know what K2's best selling ski is?

What NSer's want and what NSer's parents will buy them are two different things.

Here is how, as a ski salesman, things generally work.

A kid comes in, he knows more or less exactly what he wants, since he read that shit on newschoolers, and saw an edit featuring someone, who is otherwise a failure at life, using skis with that top sheet. Anyway, he comes in and buys what ever ski is hot shit in his or her mind, and possibly a pair of boots, probably fulltilts or spks or dalbellos, because he saw an edit featuring someone, who is otherwise a failure at life, using them. Anyway, it takes about 20-30 minutes for this to happen since he does not need to try on any other boots, or discuss the skis in the slightest way. He leaves spending $400 on skis, and another $400 on boots. $800 total sale.

A guy in his 50's walks in to buy a new pair of skis, he makes well upwards of $250,000 a year, his kids have grown up and are self sufficient. In his hands is clutched a well folded copy of the fall's Ski Magazine Gear Guide, with post-it notes highlighting the skis that will do to your skiing the equivalent of a blow job from a porn star. The guy more or less knows exactly what he wants, but just wants a sales rep to assure him that he is right on the money, and knows everything there is to know about ski equipment. I tell him he is right on the money, and knows everything there is to know about ski equipment. I show him how awesome dukes are, he he decides he can't live without those either. He gets them and a pair of $200 goggles with swappable lenses which he will spend more time swapping the lenses to fit the variable light then actually using. Total time, 15 minutes, final sale, $1500 (almost 2x the kid from ns spent, in half the time!!!!!one111111!!!!!!).

A 30 year old guy who makes $150,000 a year, and is engaged to a late 20s something bombshell of sex and destruction who makes another $80,000 a year, walks in to get some new skis for him and the poster girl for intelligent design. We start with skis for her (ladies first!), however the conversation is about 10% her, 20% me, and 70% him. They end up deciding on a pair of skis that are around $600, with another $300 for bindings. I then flag down one of the softgoods ladies, and the two of them run off to talk about cloths. The 30 year old and I then spending another 30 minutes discussing skis for him, and he ends up deciding on a pair that I recommend because they don't suck, and a pair of kick ass bindings. $1100 for the set. Miss sex and destruction comes back, and the two of them sit down to try some boots on, this takes another 30 minutes for the two of them. I make sure she practices buckling the boots, because this makes her lean forward, and I get a breathtaking view of her glorious tits (If you are a chick, and your boot fitter does not have you do this, it is either because you are fat, ugly, or he is gay) In the end they settle on boots that cost $700 for him, and $500 for her, and both have appointments to come back and see me mid week for custom footbeds, and any work if necessary. Total time 1:00 to 1:30, total spent $4000 (fashionable ski cloths are not cheap), and the two of them will end up spending an additional $1500-$2000 over the course of the season. So that is 3x the time spent on the NS twerp, with 5x the amount spent, and I got a great view of a pair of tits in the deal.

Moral of the story, newschoolers.com members are far from the priority of the ski industry, and if you want great service, grow great tits!

do you realize how easy it is for rossignol to burst into the market of freeskiing (again) for VERY LITTLE MONEY ?

SO MANY KIDS who absolutely kill it, would be unbelievably stoked if rossi was like aiight, team up with a local filmer who kills it, im gonna give you guys X pairs of skis and X amount of dollars (1 grand even) for the whole year and you make some banger edits.

newschoolers is a HUGE website, and kids ARE influenced by what they see on here, im sure I could go thru your closet and see tall tees, hoodies, maybe some jiberish thrown in there, and a pair of crowbars from when they were hot shit.

whoever said why would they waste money marketing toward kids with no buying power? BECAUSE THE KIDS ARE CONSTANTLY MARKETING TO THEIR PARENTS, AKA THE ONES WHO BUY ALL THEIR SHIT, THAT THEY NEED THIS AND THAT AND THE NEW THIS AND THE NEXT THAT.

so yeah, my statement makes complete sense.

forget all this for a moment, all your rediculous figures aside, your basically just saying the ski business and these ski companies should only be focusing on making money, and not catering to the niche groups ( i wouldnt even call freeskiing that... but you seem to be viewing it in that light). so yeah, it was a fucking bad decision in my opinion for them to drop their team, WHY? becuase theyre forgetting about us. A good company isnt one that makes a shit load of money and makes some good skis, its also LARGELY about who they support and how they go about doiing so.

I forget why I quoted you, i think this comment is applicable to someone else above as well.

Ski companies on this scale care about the bottom line, they could give a fuck less about you. And your niche. They are in it to make money, not be core and rad so people who spend more on Jiberish than actual actual ski gear love them.

cool, well this thread is about rossignol blowin it in the last couple years, and youre part of this community... so you too should maybe be seeing things at least a bit from the newschool skiing point of view, and the niche market, and how they kind of left us in the dust in terms of supporting media, younger skiers etc.

no fucking shit they want to make money, fool.

I wish I had a job with rossignol... even today with there current state.

dont worry i see ur meter though....

funny you say it though because my dad used to be the president of a ski boot company, and they shared a warehouse with dynastar, who was owned by rossi at the time. So ive been in and out of the rossi warehouse enough times, getting cheap skis from the scratch and dent pile etc. then they moved out to utah.

I am siding with your side of the argument. Rossignol could make some money by investing in a freeski team.

yeah im just thinking low key though.

look at sean jordan and k2, hes a prime example.

kid starts killin it, puts some edits out, park rats all over the world on NS start to learn the name and get stoked.

k2 swipes him up, pays someone to film he and a bunch of other young riders all summer up at hood or something, gives them a shitty house to stay in, and BOOM. everyone loves k2, supports them, and are always stoked when a new edit drops.

they dont need big name pros, but they certainly could make a lot of money (IMO) off putting in a little money into something like that.

Yeah agreed. I still think people will buy Rossis because they are good skis too. When I buy skis I choose based off reviews, people at the ski shop, and friends, experience not really off what pros ride them, although that is a deciding factor for some people and is sort of cool I guess to ride the same skis as your favorite pro. Although a good team helps spread Rossi as a "good" ski company and keeps them supporting the industry for people who care.

Just my $0.02

Europe did not have an amazing season. Central Alps yes, rest of Europe no. For example, Italy is about 30% down compared to last year (similar to US). Switzerland didn't start selling skis until after Christmas because there was no snow. Parts of Austria, Switzerland, and France did really well. That's about it. Poor snow is definitely the culprit.

Just an FYI... In terms of ski units sold, freeskiing represents about 11% of the total ski market.

It may be the fastest growing (which it is) but in terms of overall performance, it is by far not the most influential part of the market. It is an "image driver" not a "volume driver".

and then sean jordan asks for a bigger salary... and thats how my statement makes perfect sense.. Greedy Young Kids feeling they are worth more cause NS says they are.

i may be in NS, but i have no tall tees or jibberish shit. i think i only have like an NS sticker from years ago when they redesigned the logo. I ski the mountain and dabble in the park. i dont follow all that ballerina rail crap you all call tricks that sell skis.
