Rossignol has died?

And if they don'tsell it, they may abandon it or revive it. Either way is it dead? or is it going to continue selling and distributing - business as usual?

I wish a Rossi rep would post.

yo, i say we get every ns'er to donate money and we buy rossi!!!

we can finally have an ns designed ski, and with all the people on this site thay would be ballin' sick skis!!!!

unrealistic I know, thats shitty. ill miss them

Here is an excerpt from an article in the Salt Lake Tribune entitled Park City based ski company up for sale:

Jim Hunter, vice president

of operations and chief financial officer for Rossignol North America,

said that while new owners can do whatever they want with the company,

he would not expect to see major changes soon in its day-to-day

operations.

"The brand's been around for a long time [more than 100 years

now] and we're not going anywhere," he said Friday, expressing

confidence in the job security of nearly 100 employees at the "Mountain

Center" headquarters in Kimball Junction and a distribution center in

Ogden....

He said several companies

have shown interest in acquiring Rossignol and its sister companies -

Dynastar, Lange, Gnu, Lib Technology and Roxy. "The list has been

narrowed down to a few of the most serious people," Hunter added.

Quiksilver, which made its name selling surfing goods,

purchased Rossignol in March of 2005 for a reported $320 million. But

then the next two winters were particularly tough ones, with limited

snow, especially in Europe during 2006-07

Hunter said Rossignol North America saw its business rebound during this past winter of plentiful snow.

"We had a good season here in North America, both in the

Eastern and Western U.S.," he said. "The brands are doing very well in

terms of the marketplace."

- No major changes in operations

- Rossignol is not dead

- They area basing their decision on two winters, despite the good season this year

______________

An article from Forbes says:

Quiksilver 2Q net loss widens on Rossignol-related impairment charge:

For the quarter ended April

30, the company recorded a loss of $206.2 million, or $1.59 per share,

compared with a loss of $4.8 million, or 4 cents per share in the

prior-year quarter.

- QS is furthering their losses and injuring themselves and Rossignol's brand with the sale

_______________

Excerpt from Quicksilver's Annual Report in 2007:

...the weather conditions significantly impacted our equipment business, which affected our

overall financial performance. Throughout the course of last year, we worked hard to improve the efficiencies in these businesses. We were successful in eliminating redundancy and in consolidating our distribution structure for the Rossignol group of businesses. That work, however, went unrewarded because of market conditions.

You likely know that last winter was one of the warmest on record and the lack of snowfall in Europe and in parts of the United States was unprecedented. This affected every supplier and retailer in the wintersports market. It was perhaps the worst season the industry had ever seen. Across the industry, sales of equipment declined more than twenty percent while we saw an equipment brand sales decline of over $100 million versus the prior year.

We continue to regard the Rossignol brand as both one of the world’s most admired and yet least developed outdoor brands. We continue to believe that, despite the short-term issues associated with last year’s ski season, there is a very large and compelling opportunity to transform Rossignol into a powerhouse lifestyle brand with products in a wide range of outdoor sports, apparel

and footwear categories, just as we have successfully done in adding new product categories to Quiksilver, Roxy and DC. Still, we certainly recognize that although longer-term opportunities exist, we have a clear need to reduce the risks associated with our equipment businesses. To that end, we will pursue strategic alternatives with respect to these businesses.

Sincerely,

Robert B. McKnight, Jr.

Chairman of the Board

- Winter sports consitute 14% of quicksilver's sales

- Apparel, shoes, accessories account for 86% of sales

- QS is getting out of winter sports equipment and focusing on apparel

- By buying Rossi and selling them so quickly, they have hurt themselves and Rossignol

I still think that even though QS had helped Rossignol, ultimately they shouldn't have been the people that bought them. QS should have been committed to the brand and their decision to leave skiing is something that we shouldn't support IMO. It's a shame Rossi is having hard times but be sure to support them in the future because this next year the goods are sick and they need our support in the future.

Dont worry kiddies. Nothing bad is going to happen the the Big R.

I will post up information when I have the most up-ta-date info. I dont want to spread any rumors that are not true.

International meetings just took place for us this week, and information will become public shortly.

sure few people like rossi skis but i think theyll stay around im riding them next year im getting the s4s no matter what. this is just a lame thing that someone thinks is gonna happen it wont! start buying rossi everyone!

Surefoot Sports Inc. (the boot shop)was seriously looking at Purchasing Lange last year. That would be sick if they managed to now. A custom boot shop owning a boot brand. They have an amazing amount ofsay in the design already, I couldn't imagine afterwards. Cheap custom ski boots?

Do you know if they are still trying to sell the name or have they backed off that and are now including the plants?

you kids need to calm the fuck down!

I can't believe you actually think that a name as huge as Rossignol is going to go under. After over 100 years, a company of their stature doesn't just fade out and die. Someone will pick up the company and you'll probably never even notice a difference in product or anything.

when Adidas decided to sell Salomon no one freaked out. why the total nut show now?

nope they are produced at Elan, they did have a factory in Spain and I know some models are coming out of there but not many, also Rossi has been on the market for some time and no one has swooped them up yet

Well some are freaking out for no reason. I'm just looking at this as someone who works at a ski shop. Some questions pop up like;

What will happen to advertising?

Will the reps be to busy to help?

Will they still have an awesome shop form program?

Will I still get cool shit when the rep comes to see me.(haha just kidding)

Rossignol is alive and thriving!!!

Here’s the facts; Quik recognized the sale of the Rossignol Group and has removed the business from its books, and the sale is pending undisclosed conditions that are presently being worked out. All brands are operating and there is no danger of closing any doors. Bottomline is that business has been tough in the winter sports segment last few years, snow or not. The slow US economy, cost of shipping and manufacturing, along with the exchange rate has created a tough environment which is effecting all ski companies. At Rossignol, we have an amazing group of people along with a solid big mountain and jib team still intact. All of us who live and breath this lifestyle are evolving the way we do things on many levels and we’re 100% looking forward to a bright future with new ownership soon to be announced.

Over the past few years our factories have been consolidated and modernized to improve efficiency and until otherwise stated, they’re still owed by the Rossignol brand. We recently shut down our factory in France responsible for producing the microcell / plastic cores found in our Bandit, Zenith, and race skis. All production was moved to Spain where we produce the entire Rossignol ski line over 140cm, as well as Rossi, Libtech, Roxy and DC boards. These snowboard units together out number the global Burton board units pressed making it overall the largest producer in the snow sliding industry. This factory has been building the bomb proof Scratch line since the start and specializes in wood construction. So now all Phantoms, SAS, carvers and race skis are wood core. Rossignol skis under 140cm are produced by Elan and are foam injected. The global head office and prototype factory remain in France.

For Candide, no question that we appreciate everything he has done for our brand and we will always highly respect his personal and professional accomplishments. We made an effort to re sign him and other offers on the table drove his market value beyond the funds that Rossignol had to work with. Overall we must balance a very broad marketing program and sometimes tough decisions are made to keep the balance for the brand.

To close, we’re super stoked on the progression in our sport and the goal is to keep skiing fun! Team Rossi will see you on the slopes next year!

Who's Paddy K? What position does he have in Rossi?

It looks like CoreUPT is probably owned by Quick/Rossi and is just a positioning move for the twin tip market, while they'll try to concentrate the rooster in Race/Gapers/Rentals... (just my guess, nothing based on facts)

YEA WE ACTUALLY BEEN TALKING BOUT THIS HAPPENING FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AT MY SHOP SINCE BERNARD MARIETTE STEPPED DOWN AND WAS TRYING TO BUY IT HIMSELF.

And that's why it's good to have threads that clear the air in the industry and keep things straight.

Glad to hear that a buyer is stepping up, and all will remain well.

ROSSIGNOL has NOT died people. I myself ride for the Rossignol North American team and since all this hype about the company being sold and shit has come up, I have noticed that nothing has changed in the freeride program. Things are still running fairly smooth and there have been no changes with the team at all. the fact is the company is getting SOLD. companies get bought and sold all the time without them being complety destroyed, especially ski companies. Next years line up is off the hook with all different kinds of sick shit. expect rossi to be around for along time to come. And for those who think that Andreas is rossi's only major rider, think again. here is just a few sick sick rossi riders

ya know ced im gonna have to agree and disagree with you on that. Yes I agree that a lot of us dont support he industry because we get shit for free or really cheap, but if we paid the retail for everything then a lot of us ( including myself ) would even be able to ski. So what does that do to the industry? Either we ski or dont ski? Im gonna ski and get as much shit as I can for free to be totally honest. However if the situation presents itself where I can support in the industry in SOME way - not necessarily money, i will.

do you even have a brain? i know you know how to type, jk rossi makes some amazing skis hands down, very good quality
