Rossignol Bought Out

there has been a report that just came out that Rossignol is going to be bought by a private investor called Altor. the deal was made for $196 million dollars and will be finallized by fall. Altor plans on expanding the brands outerwear line since the sale of ski equipment has gone down the past few years.. What are your thoughts?
 
Hopefully they bring back Rossi Powairs and grind plates. Half this site may be to young to remember that...
 
How did this jump from an acquisition announcement (which happened in July) to Rossignol no longer making FKS bindings? This will probably end up helping Rossi in the long run. They will have access to more working capital and have some help on the management side of things. Altor doesn't look to be a private equity chop shop. Plus this brings the Boix-Vives (who sold it to Quicksilver in 2005) back on board as minority partners. I see this as a win for Rossi and the ski community. Don't worry about the FKS, it shouldn't be going anywhere.

the entire rossignol group needs an overhaul and i really hope this new investor is able to do that.

from my experiance working in shops, i've seen rossi/dynastar/lange practically "give away the farm" when it comes to incentives to retailers. everything from massively deep discounts and heli/cat trips to free ski/boot setups to the entire hardgoods staff. i know of a lot of shops that are currently in huge amounts of debt to them and can't afford to pay it all up front and that's just not a good way keep yourselves afloat financially.

don't get me wrong, i went to whistler on rossignol's dime and at one point i owned 6 pairs of dynastar skis and lange boots. they just kept giving me free shit so i didn't care. i just hope they stop bouncing from one owner to another every couple of years.
 
This is the company that brought Helly Hanson back into the mix...partnered with Bain Capitol...i think its safe to safe this is a positive. rossi needs a shot of energy and there is going to be a huge budget to help that happen now

i believe this is a great move and hopefully rossi can build a great team going forward now!
 
In the OP it says "Altor plans on expanding the brands outerwear line since the sale of ski equipment has gone down the past few years.." Which means their priority and concerns are directed towards the clothing/outerwear they will be producing and not their ski equipment and last time I checked fks bindings fall under ski equipment. So I was inferring from that, there could be a chance of no more production of a fks binding.
 
I simply read the op and that's what I got out of it. Instead of giving me a snide remark why don't you point out where I'm wrong and for there to be no chance of what I said to happen. I hope am completely wrong.
 
You are, just because they are expanding one portion of the company doesn't mean they're throwing the other parts (hard goods) out the window just because sales are down from a couple "eh" winters
 
Fucking stupid, The market is flooded with outerwear! why in the fuck would anyone buy rossignol jackets and pants. Stick to what you're good at. Make better equipment, try push and progress the market you are strong in!
 
Wilson owns Atomic do they. Not quite but you are right in that a bigger brand, amer, owns both Wilson and atomic as well as arc teryx, salomon, mavic and a few more.
 
It's not that flooded at least not when you look outside of the tall brands. If you look how well salomon do with there clothing side especially the summer stuff and the footwear it's not that surprising that Rossi want a piece of that market.
 
I'd say either Jarden or Amer will still own more of the industry than Altor will after the takeover.

Amer - Salomon, Atomic, Arc'teryx, Volant

Jarden - K2, Volkl, Marker, Line, Full Tilt, Marmot

Altor - Helly Hansen and Rossignol
 
And that's without looking at the snowboarding side of things like Burton and Quiksilver (who once owned Rossignol)
 
As far as I'm aware following the sale, the Rossi group will just be Rossi, Look, Dynastar and Lange. But this last year, whole group sales were ~3.2 mil, I'm sure Salomon and Atomic for Amer or K2 sports for Jarden will be pulling more.
