Rossi/Look turntable bindings or Jesters for my JJs +Karma!

I have the new 185 JJs and am 145lbs and 5'11. The owner of the local shop said he could hook me up with used turntable bindings for about 20$ because he knows me and he also has 6 pairs of them sitting in his house. Should i pick up a set of those for cheap cheap or should i spend the 400 dollars on Jesters for skis that i bought for 350? ++Karma for people who help out!

Jesters are like $330 right?

I'd go Jesters due to the mounting screw pattern, I put them on my Bacons and I'm putting them on my Donner Party's.

then unless your dead set on jesters, in my opinion pivot bindings will do the job. my chronics are mounted with p10's (from 2 years back) and they have kept me happy. just make sure they are still in good working order.

There were problems with the jj and fks binding rip outs in the past. I had a pair of those skis break in half and had the heel rip out of the other ski

I have always been a big fan of the Turntable bindings, however when you are mounting a wide ski like the JJ you will be more susceptible to the heel piece ripping out due to the narrow screw pattern and the amount of stress that you will be putting on it. I would rock a set of jesters or even a set of griffons if you don't need the 16 spring. I have put griffons and jesters on alot of peoples skis as well as my gotomas and my chopstiks becuase they make the ski feel more nimble and managemable.

Ive ridden both bindings A BUNCH. get the turntables. assuming they are the racestocks, not the Pivots. (even if they are, id still recomend them over the markers.)

i have been a long time rossi/look rider, but was pumped when the jester came out. i rode them in some pretty nasty shit out at Baker, and was thoroughly disappointed. as a whole, they are great bindings, but there are some critical flaws that i discovered with them.

for one, the looks have the best damn retention you will ever find. the heels release when you need them too, but never when your skiing. the markers have the same early release out of the heel as all other bindings. even cranked up, a decent amount of pressure on the nose of the ski would pop them off. Moguls, butters, a slightly off switch landing, etc, all ended up on my face. that simply doesnt happen with rossis, and you can ride at a reasonable din instead of maxed out tryin to keep your skis on.

the other big issue, ESPECIALLY for a powder ski binding. when these do come off, they have a ridiculous amount of forward pressure, and you have to stomp them in. In soft and steep conditions, it is almost impossible to get them back on. they are very susceptible to buildup on the boot soles, making them even more difficult to get on. with looks, you can just reach down and lift the heel to clamp it down, and there's TONS of clearance for snow to pack out.

as for the mounting pattern issues, i really wouldnt worry about it. ive ridden a shitload of them on tons of different skis, and have never had issues. hell, i have a set of beater urbans that have been mounted in the same holes like 10 times (with a dab of epoxy). if your at all worried about pulling out, epoxy the screws in. but really, any ski thats got a real mounting plate in the ski will be fine. epoxy will make it bulletproof.

for 20 bucks, your insaine not to get them. shit, try and get me a pair too! im in need of some parts.

^a lot of its opinion but most of that is common agreement on the bindings. but for 20 bucks...shit why bother with anything else thats gonna cost you hundreds more?

^^agreed with everything said up there, I have both bindings and I love all of my fks, my jesters....not that happy, I have to ride with a decent amount higher and even with that they pop off when the shouldn't, even if you do want a new set of bindings I would say go for the sth16, ive heard a lot of good reviews, but $20 for turntables....thats a sick deal for any bindings

Let me just say that if you can get race stock turntable for 20, Im jealous. It sound liek he has some FKS 155's for you. I would say get the turntable hands down, I love them to death. The post above me sums it up pretty well. Ive stocked up on six pairs, so ic an use them for years. You wont regret it!

I agree that $20 for race stock pivots is a bargain for time tested bindings. The above posters are right that they have the best retention of any binding system. That said, the duke/baron's heal issue can largely be solved by making sure the forward pressure is perfect. Make sure the screw that sets fwd retention is at least flush when the binding is closed. I actually go a bit further than recomended forward pressure. The other thing about the markers is that they need to be clean. Snow in the bindings will lead to pre-release. Looks on the other hand work when dirty, poorly tuned, or not even set exactly perfect. Looks are kind of the ak47 of bindings in that respect.
