Rosetta Stone: Does it work?

I'm sure it works. I'v heard great things about it though I've never used it myself. I'd use it to get out of being in French class but it costs way too much for me.

so do a rosetta stone course

and then go somewhere (skiing would be sweet) where they speak dutch for ATLEAST a month

then you will be completely straight

i've tried to, and there's a lot of torrents out there. unfortunately for me they didn't have polish for a mac

It works, my school picked up the French version for us and its pretty sick. You can even plug in a mic and they talk and everything and theres a whole voice component to it

I got the newest version of French and an old version of Chinese from torrents. There's a bunch on there, just look around

Haha, leuk dat iemand van NS Nederlands moet leren. Waarom moet je het eigenlijk leren? Heb je Nederlandse familie of ben je van plan een trip naar Nederland te maken?

A little bit of excercise for you...

I think I'm going to get the spanish version. Has alot of potential. Good looks on bringing this up. Gracias.

as an Afrikaans speaker i really think you need immersion to learn Dutch my friend. i dunno if rosetta stone really is that great.

And were you able to understand this? I must say that German and Dutch are very similar languages, besides some grammatical things it's almost the same. Word's look a lot like each other. By the way, my uncle is English and the first years he was trying to speak Dutch were quite funny. Especially when he wanted to say something with a "g"...

yes it does, my stepdad downloaded it after searching torrents for a few hours and in like 2 days he was saying random phrases in spanish. I mean he got bored and dropped it but he really learned a bit from it

Update: I got the Spanish version of Rosetta Stone about two or three weeks prior to me leaving on a fairly long trip to South America. In the end I don't regret it, but there are definitely better ways to learn a language. I don't know what your timeline is, but I had three busy weeks of preparations and work before leaving so I didn't have tons of time to devote to RS. From my experience it's fine for learning vocabulary but it doesn't seem to cover much in terms of verb conjugations. It also gets insanely repetitive. If I had to do it again I would take a crash course in the language, because once you have the very basics down the rest just becomes adding vocabulary. Ultimately the best way to learn is being immersed and surrounded by it like someone else said.
BTW, I know this thread is old but there still seems to be some interest in this so I'm replying anyways.

I took German and Dutch is really bastardized German. 2nd sentence = Why do you want to learn Dutch. Do you have Dutch family? Or something along those lines.

Trying to read Dutch makes my head hurt.

If you need any help with dutch PM me, if you wanna go to holland or belgium sometime, don't forget your skis! we have quite good indoor parks :)
Veel geluk met je studie!Good luck with your study !

haha ^

but really you guys how would I go about trying to torrent one of these? I needs the spanish and if I could find them, italian or german also.

Does anyone know a good torrent client for macs? I've never tried using one before.

thanks

Its true. The Dutch speak much better English than most Europeans. I mean, anywhere you go in the world, everyone speaks English. But in Holland EVERYBODY speaks English, really well, with barely even an accident. It's a compliment really.

i'm not saying it isn't true.
but some people may want to learn a new language, because they enjoy it, want to be able to converse in someone else's native tongue as it's very well received if you can do it well , whack it on the cv (resume) many reasons...not just so you can buy a beer at the bar

other than never finding what you're looking for, this is the other main reason the searchbar doesn't work
