Rope swings are sick!

so im putting up a rope swing behind my house into the spokane river and was wondering if its better to get a super thick braided rope or a thinner rope. which one is more comfortable and easy to hang onto and what not. anyone ever done this? i dont wanna screw up so i thought id ask yall

theres a rope over at bulls bridge near me and someone broke the rope swing so we had the same thoughts. we went with a thin rope at first and it worked well. be sure to make a loop at the bottom though to hold onto cause the knots wont be big enough. with a thick rope all you need is a few knots and its all good. its personal prefrence really, but i prefer the thick rope

yeah go with the thicker rope, its easier to hang onto. what we did was double it up so it hung down in a loop already it worked real well

alright i built one near my cottage. we climed way up a tree and tied the rope. the tree was ontop of a 15-20 foot cliff so if you can find a cliff to build it off, do that. as for ropes, the longer the rope the better anddefinently use a thick rope. we originally used a thinner rope and it sucked so we switched it to a thick rope and it was way easier to hang onto.

hopefully that helped.

when my friends and i built our rope swing we went into the hardware store and there were many different kinds. i suggest a think softer rope. make sure that you burn the ends so it does not fray.

do you know what is far far better? a ropeboard. Attach a skateboard to the bottom, and a wakeboard handle about 4 feet up.

i would definitly go with the thicker rope, but dont get it too thick that you cant get your hand around firmly, get a couple of knots in there to hang on to as well.

We had a ropeswing at our drinking spot. We have been getting our balls busted by the cops lately back there. They came back 3 days ago and cut down our tree. The tree was about 3 feet thick, it was a big tree and those bastards took it down. So now we have no rope swing, and the first 50 ft of our lake has a massive tree sitting in it.

this looks like death. you know someone wrecked their shit when their hand slipped off

During a road trip last summer i found a rope swing on the top of a 25 ft cliff, above this really nice "lake". The rope was around 20 ft long hanging from a tree right on the edge of the cliff, and you could get quite good distance with it! kinda scary sometimes too.. losing control with a rope 25 ft in the air isn't very safe.
