Roommate stole my skis but no proof

So I was in a pretty great living situation with 3 other guys and 1 other girl (total of 5 in the house). It was awesome but the girl moved out (she was dating one of the guys and they broke up) and another guy moved in let's call him bob.

Since Bob moved in stuff has been disapearing and although no one has proof that he stole their shit we all are pretty sure it is him. Additionally he lost his job or got injured and had workers comp for a bit but in the last 2 months or so he has been fine and healthy (he wasn't even really injured to begin with just a sore shoulder). Which brings to mind how the fuck is he getting his money (huge reason why we really think that he is stealing shit as he is only one without a job). Then I went skiing this weekend and was gone from Friday to Sunday and forgot to lock my room.... My extra pair of skis was stolen out of my room and is now gone. I still don't have definite proof that it was him but obviously pretty sure its this asshole Bob. Do I call some friends up and beat the shit out of him... I called some pawn shops to see if they had found them and have been checking craigslist but no luck.

Luckily I'm moving out soon (about 40 days). Has anyone else had issues with roommates stealing shit and what did you do?
 
Smack him in the head with some logic. Don't back him into a corner and just ease into it. You didn't say what he is buying or elaborate on his money part... Something like sick jacket how much that cost. Thats like 4 hrs of work for me, you get a new job? You didn't get a new job? Where is the money coming form? I am asking because I think you stole some shit

1 thing. Id be pretty insane about locking my room if shit has been going missing. Hell if my door locks and i live with a bunch of randos im locking it if im gone for more than a piss. Its not because i think somebody's going to steal shit, but just to prevent it or know they didnt.

Scope his room or car if you can. Talk to him. Kill him. Idk.

Or say nothing and do a sting.

I hate people that steal, especially from the people they live with. Constantly eating other peoples food, drinking their beers is bad enough, if theyre stealing real shit? Fuck that.

I wish we knew what he wanted to steal next. Could through a gps locater on it plus the camera and get this sting rolling. Also you get your choice of just fucking him up and taking your shit back or going to the cops or both.

How have you not confronted him yet? If my skis went missing from my room I would have been ripping the house apart. DO SOMETHING!

But op if you can’t get him on film just confront him and tell him that you KNOW he took your shit, not that you think. It sounds like you’re pretty confident he’s the one stealing shit.

You take a coke of his from the fridge he takes your credit card and buys 1000 worth of shit in return.

Change locks and give him the boot pronto OP.

Might not even be him if he has sketchy friends who have been to your place I'd guess that is who did it.

Friend or acquaintance of the roommate is so common. Probably best to just get him out ASAP before more BS goes down. Karma will catch up with him. Long time ago I had some cool housemates but one of them had a bad filter and shit started missing including a nice camera and a significant amount of cash. Years later I saw in the news where one of my roommates sketchy friends OD'd in the local jail. They listed his huge rap sheet for petty crimes. That was probably the guy that robbed us.
 
Sounds like addict behavior (judging from the workers comp and "shoulder injury", sounds like hes hooked on opiates) or he's bringing undesirables around your place while you and your other roomates are out, or both. Who really gives a fuck about ruining any friendship or whatever you have with him or being nice, if you have suspicion then definitely confront him in a civil manner and see whats up, don't buy any of his bullshit lies.

Also dont completely write-off your other roomates, either.
 
Just an update my roomates and I have all confronted him multiple times about stealing for other things in the past (roomates have had controllers for ps4 and xbox go missing and a camera and some other things (I guess I didn't make that clear in original post). Also he is hooked on a mix of opiates, coke, and obviously shit tons of dabs. Overall he is an asshole anyway and I have already checked his room and his car for my skis and they are not there. I think I'll just get a few buddys and beat him up maybe a week before I move out.

Also I've been super careful to lock my room and anything valuable 100% of the time I am not home. I also set my webcam on my desktop computer to record pictures in 5 seconds intervals (video would hog space like no other).

Lastly I will be careful with other the other guys living there because you guys are right I shouldn't completly write them off. (Or people they bring over).

And after all of that, you still made this thread thinking he was innocent? It sounds like whoever allowed him to be your roommate fucked up and you deserve to have all your shit stolen.

If he's hooked on opiatea and shits going missing you should have kicked him out or moved the fuck out.

Also you'r crazy for leaving your room unlocked. If i still had to live there id triple check the lock even if i was just walking out to piss.

Why wait for a week before you move out? So its not awkward? If you're going to do something do it. If not except the fact that your skis got sold for $50 and move on with your life.

Options are call the cops, kick his ass, or deal with it and move on/move out

Didn't I say I am moving out.... Like do you guys even read. Fuck Also i said I lock my room 100% of the time that I am not home and when I am home I'm in my room most of the time anyway. (I forgot once last weekend cause I fucked up)

Reason I'm waiting to move out is because I can't move in until may not because I don't want to.

I also already called the cops (I said that I did earlier learn to read mate....), will kick his ass, and am moving out. I've had some shitty roomates as well. Thieves suck in general but no need to be a dick.

"Maybe I'll move out in may at some point" isn't really moving the fuck out and not sure why you're being a dick in general. I'll double check and re read to make sure i wasn't being a tool but was feeling pretty sympathetic. Now, not so much.
 
Tie him up and tell him youre gonna shave his head, rip his eyes out, burn all his fingers and toes, and flush all his teeth if he doesn’t confess to every last thing he stole from you. Also maybe if he smokes slip some salvia in his weed and tell him you poisoned him and the only way he’s gonna get the antidote is that he admit to everything.

Or maybe just kill him, sell all his shit, and buy new skis.

And op, don't know why I didn't think of this but why not get your landlord to evict him? I bet three people saying he's stolen things and is using hard drugs in the apartment is grounds enough for eviction.
