Ron Paul

I have spotted a lie in your argument.

Patriot Act:

"Although the Act passed by wide margins in Congress, it has been criticized from its inception for weakening protections of civil liberties. The only US Senator to vote against the act was Senator Russ Feingold."

So stop having a go at me. If Paul said he voted against the patriot act, he is a liar.

When you vote, be a patriot.

pa·tri·ot /ˈpeɪtriət, -ˌɒt

-noun

a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.

LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE!

Right, to save face I'm gonna leave this argument.

Can't believe I'm the only lefty putting a point across though, come on guys, conservatives don't freeski, where are you all?

It's not that you're the only lefty on here, it's that the rest know not to bother when it comes to arguing on this - if you do, you'll hear far too many "Stop stealing ____'s thoughts! Get your own opinion!" and other such unarguable, yet unthoughtful comments.

Alright here is something NS can relate to, here are Ron Pauls granddaughters, they are smokin right???!! lol, just one more reason to vote for him.

Granddaughters... something about that word doesnt inspire me to think of them as hot or the dude as an able candidate.

ahahahh fucking dope, Ron Paul is gonna be on the Daily show tonight, FUCK YEA. This is gonna be dope

WOOOHOO, Pauls gonna kick some more political ass tomorrow too.

Jea, I just watched the 9:00 showing. Wow that was so inspiring and well spoken. Stewert said he is supporting Paul 100%, JEA!!! The US really needs a new direction right now, we are heading down a evil path currently. Ron Paul is a true patriot and a true inspiring leader, do all you can to help him out. If enough people gather up to help him, he cant be stopped....

there all NEOCONS, listen to yourself. I am a REGISTERED REPUBLICAN, i listen to republican talk radio, i watch fox news. THIS MAN IS NOT IN LINE WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. He openly blamed the united states for 9/11 on national television. there is no such thing as a neocon, we are merely having another resurgance of conservatism much like in the late 80's. vote Mcain, he's the only one who isn't afraid to speak his beliefs during even years. As for your comments about Romney, Clinton and Obama, i'm right there with you, they ARE puppets willing to do or say ANYTHING to get elected.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm a outrageous hippy liberal, and I listen to conservative talk radio, and find Bill O'Riley highly entertaining... they're not just for conservative bigots.

Hmm, interesting interview. At least he is different from some of the other candidates, he's got that running for him. And I'm glad he's going to end medicare and let hospitals become privatized, he's right when he said that a little competition never hurt anyone and that markets generally do better. We'll see how the debate goes, but right now, hes a favorite out of the republicans. Ideally, I'd like to see it come down to a dem and rep that are both win-win candidates... I'm sick of choosing between two losers.

it's my opinion that this country needs a new direction, the government is too big, the government doesn't look out for any of the people except themselves. they make careers out of this and don't have a clue what's going on in the real world. I'm sick of the two party system and I think republicans and democrats shouldn't be elected to president at least once this decade. so i'm voting paul this time. something needs to kickstart the youth and middle aged people to get into politics for the right reasons, not these 60 and 70 year olds we have sitting on the hill "representing" us.

That was a good interview.

What would happen to prices if hospitals were privatized? Because universal health care from the democrats, if it's anything like Sweden, would mean it's extremely cheap to get medical care, bt also difficult to get toip of the line medical care. What would the privatization mean?

He is never going to win. Not in a million years. I like some of what he has to say but he is too far out of the mainstream to have a shot.

Thats not true, if he gets the Republican nomination (He is the only way the Republicans can regain some prestige in the Government, cause currently they are very unpopular.) he will be a shoe in for President in my opinion. He has been in the mainstream media alot actually, maybe not all of the stupid polls that no one really cares about. HBO, comedy central, the debates, most watched person on youtube, most subscribers on youtube by far, shit load of myspace friends etc, if you are ignoring all of the coverage he is getting, you are simply ignoring reality my friend....

Just because he is popular with the kids on youtube doesn't mean he will get the nomination. Right now, Romney, McCain and Giuliani are the big hitters, and most of the republican base is fairly new to the internet, doesn't watch comedy central, and thinks HBO is blasphemous.

And betting on a candidate now is stupid as shit, because we still have a long way to go until the actual election. Too much could happen between now and then. Also, Stewart didnt agree with him 100%. He remained pretty neutral through the whole thing, so I really dont see where you get that.

Patty, as for privatization, I think it might be the only system that can work effectively in a large country like the US. Steps should still be taken to ensure that veterans and such still get their promised healthcare, but privatizing the medical institutions would assure hospitals of money, which would be a certain upgrade from where they are now.

no actually. look up the definition of the term neoconservative. and he did not blame the united states. you trying to make it sound like he said we invited it our it was the fault of the american people. he simply said that our foreign policy has blowback and that we were not attacked because of our "freedoms" as bush and rove have told us. conservatisim is much different from neoconservatisim. if it came down to mccain or obama or hilary though i would vote for mccain even though i dont think he is a good candidate

I dunno if cost would really change all too much. The Government certianly wastes a lot of money in the healthcare system in this country now, and I have no doubts that private organizations would clean that up so they could attain higher profits. Competition would also drive prices down for some procedures and such, but I dont think there would be much of a notable difference in price for the public - only better care and quality.

I was going to ask a Neurosurgeon I work with about this just a few minutes ago at our lab meeting, but he had to rush off to grand rounds. I'll talk to him when I get a chance, I'm interested to hear his take on it.

bahahahah, nope sorry. Everyone uses Youtube, not just kids. If you dont know how to use the internet you are a fucking idiot and dont deserve to vote for the president. The thing is, you might be right that alot of the 'unintelligent' base out there dont know about Ron Paul and that is basically what you are trying to say in your post. But those people can be swayed very easily with the right tactic.....the thing is Paul is creating a big wave right now, sure 08 is aways away, but it will be here before you know it. You cant ignore the buildup of supporters he has.

And Stewert was actually egging on Paul to talk shit, especially about Guiliani I could tell. I got the feeling that Stewart hates Guiliani. I knew Ron Paul really wanted to talk shit about some of the other idiots campaign strategies, but he is the better man and refrained cause he is a pimp like that.

You dont think he was backing up Paul? I mean fuck, you need to watch that again. I know he didnt say "I'm backing Paul 100%" but he made MANY suttle lines etc that made me think that. For example, giving Paul some shit talking cards against the other candidates? Why would he do that if he wasnt trying to help him out? I know that alot of the shit Stewart does on the show are like overly sarcastic so you have to take alot of what he says/does as a symbol for something else cause he cant just directly say "I hate the corruption of the government", on national tv if he wants to keep his job, you know? If the debates were actually like a high school shit talking fest, than those shit talk cards would work and be mischevious and just funny, but since thats not the real world, its just a reference for meaning that Stewart doesnt really like alot of the others.

Stewart said "You are a DIFFERENT candidate". He made it sound like it was a GREAT thing.

Here is the joke that Stewart gave to Paul to use in the debates:

For Guiliani:

Well, if you love Iraq so much, WHY DONT YOU MARRY IT??!!!

.......Oh wait, you would probably just divorce it two years later pfft....

hahahahh that was hilarious

For Thom Thompson

So whats your middle name??! TOM?@!!

Another reason Stewart is backing Paul. Do you think he would have some idiot that he doesnt want to try and help him get in office by having him on the show and getting him more coverage?

I coulda swore at the end of the show or some shit, Stewarts last line was something to the matter of Backing up Paul...Ill have to watch it again. I know its there. Watch for alot of the suttle gestures/jokes.

I thought thats a pretty cool pic. By the way, Paul got a new website recently, damn its sick too. link is in my sig.

By the way go to CNN.com and vote for him in their polls, hes kicking ass right now!! JEEEEEEEAAA

Here are some things he said in the debate at least that CNN reported (they are pretty shoddy and dont give him enough cover)

Paul: U.S. has rejected ‘Just War’ theory of Christianity.

stories.paul1.jpg

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Texas Rep. Ron Paul said at Tuesday’s GOP

presidential debate that America’s most pressing moral issue is its

adoption of a preemptive military policy, declaring it a rejection of

the “Just War theory of Christianity.”

“We in the past have always declared war in the defense of our

liberties or go to aid of somebody,” he said. “But now we have accepted

the principle of preemptive war — we have rejected the Just War theory

of Christianity.

“We have to come to our senses about this issue of war and

preemption and go back to traditions and our constitution and defend

our liberties and defend our rights,” he added.

Paul is the only GOP member of Congress running for president who voted against authorizing the use of force in Iraq.

Paul: Homosexuality is not the issue

ATLANTA,

Georgia (CNN) — Should gays and lesbians be allowed to serve openly in

the U.S. military? The audience applauded Texas Rep. Ron Paul’s answer.

“We don’t get our rights because we’re gays or women or minorities.

We get our rights from our creator as individuals. So every individual

should be treated the same way,” Paul said.

“If there is homosexual behavior in the military that is disruptive,

it should be dealt with. But if there’s heterosexual sexual behavior

that is disruptive, it should be dealt with.

“So it isn’t the issue of homosexuality. It’s the concept and the understanding of individual rights,” he said.

Paul called the current “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, implemented during the Clinton adminstration, “a decent policy.”

What do you think?

Dude, you sound crazy. When you start talking about "subtle cues" and shit, that means it's in your head. I also have to agree with Patty on this, but hear me out before you jump on me. Ron Paul is popular with younger people because he is an alternative candidate with some different ideas. Not different in a bad way at all, just different. He is popular on youtube, yes, and that site is most frequented by 16-25 year olds out of all the age groups. He has a youth base.

Now, a youth base is good, but historically, its done nothing for elections. Sure, its loud, its boisterous and rowdy and has a lot of passion and true want for good in the country. The problem is that everyone else votes. Most older adults dont want radical change. Different is bad. That's just the way it works - by that age, they're usually living steady and would like to keep things pretty much the same so they can continue to steadily do well. With the elderly, its even worse - no motivation for any change at all.

Youth vote is great, sure, but a huge buzz over a strong candidate this far away from the election is still a long ways from being a potential at the end of the primaries. Look at what happened to Dean last time around. Thats the other thing about the youth vote - very very finicky. Thats why its still very early to call this one. Ron Paul has some good values and its nice to have him stirring things up on the Republican side. However, he is not by any means a front runner in the election, no matter how much you may think the radical liberal media alters the polls.

Sorry mang, please dont try and tell me "how it is". I dont want to hear that shit, I want to hear your opinion, not how you think the world should go around.

YOu must be blind to not see alot of suttle jokes etc on the daily show........

Yea Ron Paul may be popular with the younger people, but I know there are also alot of Older people who support him too, ive met them so dont try and tell me they dont exist. Ron Paul is actually waking the younger people up and making them realize that they are going to be in control soon so they need to go the right direction.

Dude, I'm not telling you the way I think the world goes around, its the way the world DOES go around. Ask any political analyst. Youth vote counts for shit in an election, and thats all he has. As for my opinions on him, I've already said, I dont know. I've already said I think hes an interesting candidate for the Republicans, but while I and the rest of the 18-25 year olds in this country want to stir up shit, the vast majority of the country doesnt want that. Unlike you, I'm waiting until the actual elections to make my decision about who to vote for instead of hard lining with a single candidate.

And about the Daily show, bullshit. Jon Stewart is there to make jokes, hes a comedian on a talk show, its what he does. I dont see how he "100% backs Ron Paul!!!", or even 50% backs him. While its true he's liberal and has had arguments with many republican candidates, eg, McCain, him making subtle jokes (which there were few, if any in the interview) would not instantly signal his support for a single candidate. He probably supports what Ron Paul is doing and some of the things he stands for, but I dont think you could ever read that much out of a five minute interview.

2008 will be here in 7 months, thats not a very long time mang. Im pretty sure Paul knows what he is doing, he has ran for president before and knows the ropes. The beginning of the debates is basically the start of the running for President, which was like a month ago, so what is he supposed to wait til the end, join the debates late, to gain support??. Except this year is different as far as the state of the country currently and everyone is eyeing closely the new candidates so we dont get stuck with a Bush minime and end up like we are currently.
