I would like to talk about Tanner being a role model for kids. Is he really a bad role model because he cant articulate the english language? Probably not. He shows a lot of hard work and determination, consistency, dedication, and triumph. He wins these comps that get coverage. And then he gets interviewed. Kids can relate to him better than they can say Mike Douglas who doesnt ski comps anymore. Or maybe compare Tanner's interview with Dumont's who doesnt even spit an entire sentence out. He is too tired or too broken to give an interview, and he doesnt care because he doesnt think it will have an effect. Kids probably dont understand what happened to him and will not be able to understand that his injury was far too sevre to go on, yet he tried. So all im sayin is that kids today can a) relate to Tanner better than a lot of other athletes because he is the one winning and getting the publicity and b) he might not be a good 'role model' but at least he shows some kind of winning attitude that might inspire some kids to aspire.

 
Matt Harvey is the best role model anyone could ever hope to have.

I think you have a valid point about Tanner being a hard worker. But not many people know that outside of us freeskiers who are really involved in the scene. I personally think Tanner is a terrible role model. In some ways I wish he was still on a big company's team like Rossi because they would push him to have a better public image like Candide with Salomon. I think there are some good role models out there but they aren't getting enough coverage. Jon Olson is a great role model. He's a really hard work and is really easy to like because of his enthusiastic aattitude. I also think Pollard would be a good role model except for the fact that he smokes weed.

This year I hope to see more kids incorporating newschool with big mountain riding and getting out of the park.-Matt Levintal
