Anybody know how these preform? I know that the 85mm ant 14mm have gotten some good reviews, but anyone actually have these?

Here's a list of the primes:

8mm f/3.5 Fisheye: Slightly different category than the rest, only one with intentional distortion. APS-C only. $290, no comparable Canon model.

14mm f/2.8 UWA: Full Frame and APS-C, no intentional distortion, mustache distortion present. $290, comparable Canon is $1,900 more.

24mm f/1.4: To be released in early 2012. Expected to be priced similarly to the current 35mm 1.4 ($500, comparable Canon is $1,200 more). APS-C and Full Frame.

35mm f/1.4: Full frame and APS-C. $500, Canon is $1,000 more.

85mm f/1.4: Full frame and APS-C. $275, no comparable Canon, comparable Nikon is $1,050 more.

All prices are new. These lenses are 100% manual focus, and have built in aperture rings. All can be bought in a variety of mounts, including Canon, Nikon, 4/3, and many others.

The focusing is supposedly quite smooth, and build quality is supposed to be quite good.

If the image quality is comparable to their brand name brothers, these could be insane for the price.

No AF is the only catch (as far as I am aware).

For video sounds great, aperture ring, MF, internal focusing, good build quality, fast, prime, etc.

A new lens for the price of a vintage one.

Thoughts?

Rokinon has been getting a ton of great reviews on these fast prime lenses. An 85mm 1.4 is in my future. Best bang for buck IMO.

the 35mm is way cheaper than any other 35mm 1.4 you'll find, nikon 35mm 1.4 ai is like 700 bucks or more.

nikon 85mm f2 is comparable to the 85mm 1.4 and its about 50 bucks cheaper at the most, the rokinon might be a better buy, at least thats what im thinking.

and as far as the rokinon 85mm 1.4 vs. canon 85mm 1.8... for a canon DSLR which would you choose

ive heard some great things about the canon 85mm 1.8, i think with a canon body it might be worth the extra 150.

yeah the 70-200 is perfect. going to grab a 300 too for surfing shots and whatnot. Or maybe just pick up a 7d and use its crop.

or you could just get a 1.4x TC and save a lot of money. Not like you utilize the gear you already have to it's fullest

The 8mm fish-eye is very sweet. Nice and compact, a lot of fun to shoot with. Shooting manual is a joy when the controls are as smooth as on this Samyang.

i read that it is super soft on a FF camera.

anyone have a comparison between it and the tokina 11-16? i might pick up one of these since my dad owns our tokina and im moving away to college

I prefer my Tokina 11-16 for skiing just because I usually shoot at 11mm. Libatique shot Black Swan on a 16mm T1.4 I believe, so I can see a 14mm being considered very wide for narrative work.

However, the feel of a lens is very important to me (reason I hate Canons), so it would be hard to form a judgement without actually using it.

On a side note, that 35mm 1.4 is sexy. Could have great potential in a cine housing.

read the comments... i mean for the price nothing is gonna be able to beat it but from what I understand its not ideal for FF

those comments were straight retarded. Look at the sample images link I posted, lots of them are from FF cameras, at 2.8, and sharp. A picture is worth a thousand words....
