hey turpin, im i big fan, its cool to see you help the community out.

Im struggling getting the guts to try a rodeo this year, and i want to know how to prepare for them. i can do them on the tramp no question, its just a matter of having more air time and skis on.

also, whenever i spin past 720, my skis pop off. my din is set at like 12 and the heels are as close as i can get them to be. any thoughts?

thanks man!

oh thanks, I'm glad you're a fan! lulz

I'm not chris, but...rodeo 5s you shouldnt be clipping out. when you pop, set your rodeo and just look over the shoulder and keep the legs going over...try to get a grab in there and keep tucked. if you want to go for the 9 then you need to keep your legs strong when you're in the air so they're not all over the place and clipping each other. If your din is at 12 and you're still coming out in the air, though, your bindings may have problems.

Its a lot like the misty. A lot of kids mix up Flat spin (ski rotates like this in a circle = flat ) and Rodeo (ski rotates like this in a circle ll vertically with your back down ). So making sure you know the trick well enough helps allot.1st talk to whom ever at your hill and ask them to make you a TABLETOP jump not a step down. step-down bad for learning tricks to much impact. about 30 feet with a 60 foot landing. double you table length is perfect for learning tables. and a nice rolling knuckle , nothing sharp.ASK YOUR PARENTS IF THIS IS OK FIRST AND PULL YOU BED AWAY FROM THE WALL, MAKE SURE IT WONT SLIDErodeo is all about diving forward from the jump and rolling onto your back. stand at the foot of your bed. (Not beside like the misty)dive and spin onto your bed as if your going to lay down on your back with your head on the pillow. try it with a japan once you get it good. the japan helps pull in that side of your body and pull the trick around.once your laying on your back looking at the ceiling, wiggle to the top of the bed. look over your shoulder and you should see the floor aka landing now pull your feet over to the floor and you should be facing back to the foot of the bed. now i know you where asking how to get the guts. do this many times and visualize your self in the third person, first person, follow cam guy whatever it takes. till you see your self doing it and when you do get the ballz to try remember CCCR

good advice on rodeos, i think its the first trick im going to try this year. but what do you suggest for switching them from the trampolin/pool to the snow? is there a big difference or is it just balls?

also i found it easier to spin them on the tramp when i spin it left i throw in a safety grab on my right foot. its kinda like my right hand and foot is throwing it around. would this be a good thing to try on my first hit on snow?

ya, im mean what ever makes it feep natural. and as far as getting up to do it. make sure you get your jumping legs first. then try it when you know the time is right. I try new stuff when im having an A game day and the jump is good . feel the vibe and go with it on that day.

CCCR

So, if I understand correctly, a rodeo is like a flat spin but instead of the tips of your skis leading the rotation, like in a flatspin, the left side of your left boot leads the spin? (if spinning left)

whenever i go for a rodeo(left side, dropping right shoulder) it always turns into some type of lincoln. I might not be throwing my left elbow behind my back or something. This is the trick i have the most trouble with. i can misty easily. not sure what im doing on the rodeos? and yes i know a rodeo is like a lincoln with a spin.

It's not really like a lincoln with a spin, actually, although it kinda looks like it.

Basically: shoulder check the air in front of you (which pulls you off-axis and at 90 degrees), and bring your legs around into a switch backflip kind of motion. Keep looking around for the landing though, that will be the most key thing.

my mtn put up a t able finally so i tried rodeo 5, but accidentally did a 7 (but i stomped it so it was cool). but i wanted to do 5, i kept trying but i kept rotating too fast then i hurt my already injured thumb so i stopped. is there a trick to slowing it down, like a certain grab or something, or should i just keep trying. thanks. oh and i remembered the cccr thing, it helped!

to slow a trick down I find it helps to have a half way spot on the trick and set that for the apex. And in a rodeo 5 is on your back so at the apex it just rolls over
that might be tec but do ya get what im saying

alright sounds pretty good, I think I'll try one this weekend but we dont have any tables at my club and the i'm guessing the best jump is this 30 foot step down... does that sound okay?

I dont think step downs are good for learning tricks. Because your drop time is more then your up time messing with your trick timing as well step downs increase you in-pact wait. Un-like a tabletop or step over where you meet the tranny not fall down to it. ya dig

Turpin first of all I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to help all of us with our tricks. I have been a big fan for awhile. For some reason I have troubles with the Rodeo rotation. I read this thread and took away some good pointers. I feel like i have the rotation ok on a tramps and diving boards. On snow I always end up throwing what feels like a bio 5 and landing on my hips which has kept me from trying this trick alot. Here is a vid of one of my first attempts a few years back.

Could you take a look at it and give me some advice? Thanks in advance
