so im trying to figure out next years quiver and i want to replace my magic j's. they are 170 and feel too short for a pow ski. Im 5' 5" and plan on getting a fully rockered/reverse camber ski, however cannot figure out what length to get. I feel like over 180 would be to big considering i want it to be playfull ski and im short af, but im already on 178 on3p's. also most rockered pow skis are over 180.

length choice depends a lot on what ski you're going with, but if you're already riding a 178 ski (which I assume isn't fully/dramatically rockered?) then you'd have no problem on a pow ski that's 180 or more. People tend to get a little too close-minded when it comes to dimensions - think about how much 2 cm actually is.

Look at the 180cm Icelantic Nomad 125s. I have the old model, the Gypsy, and love them. Used them as my daily driver for most of last season. You're going to want a ski probably in the high 170s or very low 180s to get a lot of float out of them. You're 5'5 so the main thing to keep in mind is control. A reverse camber ski will give you a more pivoty feel which is nice on a longer ski so having a 180cm ski like the Nomad would be a viable option.

You're right. However, he asked for ski lengths to look at so in my response I answered high 170s to low 180s. As well, I suggested a fully rockered ski to look at that fell into his criteria. If you could, kindly, fuck in the direction of off that would be simply wonderful.

Check out the Moment Meridian 117; full rocker, bomber yet playful, and the 181 will probably have about 160 cm of effective edge which would work well for you. It's a new model so maybe wait for some reviews but it looks pretty promising. www.mmntskis.com

I'm pretty short too and I've been sizing up since some mean kids in the parking lot called me a pussy for rocking snow blades 19 years ago.

I'm 5'7" riding several 185-188cm skis, all center mounted.

It's preference at the end of the day, whatever you feel most confident with you will usually rock.
