Rocker Ski Info Thread

Since rockered is the absolute best there ever was, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say we all want a pair. Since it looks like next year is the year when EVERYONE is putting them out, we should get our info straight to help us pick ours out.

I'm going to muster up a list of them, and my intent with this thread is for you guys to provide info and specs for the skis for us all to use.

Here goes:

K2 Hellbent/obSETHed

Line EP Pro

Moment Melee/Josh Bibby Pro/Reno Rocker/Donner Party

Volkl Chopstick

Saloman Rocker Series

Armada ARG/JP vs JULIEN

Rossignol S7

4FRNT EHP

Please, put your input about any of these skis that you've tried, or any others that there are out there. Hopefully thsi will cut down on clutter of the forum full of people asking "how so-and-so ski compares to this one."

Please, don't comment about how badly you want a rockered ski, talk and ask questions about ones that have been mentioned and reviewed.

:D

well the JP Julien is going to rip ahhviously

Nick,

Thanks for dropping us an email. Like the

Hellbent, or any other rockered ski, the 09 JP/Julien will ski shorter than its

advertised length. Additionally, next year’s JJs will no longer be a 188

and 178; rather, they will be measured out at 185 and 175. If you are

comfortable in the 182-185cm length I would recommend the JJ 185cm for you. One

thing to keep in mind, especially when purchasing the JJ is that the 09 model

has some major differences in rockered skis of the past. The two major

differences lay in the fact that the JJ has a longer running surface and a much

deeper sidecut under boot than other rocker skis on the market. Essentially

you are getting the best of both worlds as the JJ combines a shorter ARV

sidecut under boot, while incorporating an ARG rocker in the tip and tail. We

are confident that the JJ will be the ultimate resort powder ski as it floats

high in deep in snow and carves turns on groomers with absolute ease. Hopefully

this helps you out, if you have any further questions please let me know. Thanks

again.

I think im getting the chopsticks next season through work. I need to email the rep through work.

135-115-135. Slight rocker. Soft. Very poppy though.

dude, i'm not hating because i love moment too, but it doesn't seem like you've ever even ridden a pair before. i've seen you post numerous times in various threads both in the moment skis cult and in this forum... should i get the fast fries? how stiff are they? oh, i'm big enough to ride a 170? well how are the jibs? how are the tahoes? do you have any pictures of the bases of the tahoes? am i really going to be okay on 170's? or should i go with the jibs? are they stiff or soft?

anyways, you get the picture. i just find it mildly humorous. ;)

heres my melee review. though they are no longer in production...

Me-6'1" 155lbs, Expert, likes trees, and steeps.

Ski - Moment Melees w/ solly z12s mounted true center

Conditions - two feet of fresh, heavy powder, more or less tree skiing

Skis I like -- Ruby 188, JJ's 188(?), ARV's 185, K2 AK enemies

Dislike - Big troubles, Gotamas

Construction - Yes, bomber, bases especially. This was opening day at

our mountain and we definitely didn't have full coverage, yet there

wasn't even a scratch on the bases. Topsheets didn't take too hard of

a beating and there wasn't much damage there. With having one of the

lightest bindings on them, it felt like there was hardly anything on my

feet.

Fairly easy to ski. The rocker took some getting used to; just

staying away from back seat in the pow (who woulda thunk it?). They

are suuper soft and plus the rocker makes them feel even softer, but

they still handled considerably better than expected.

Groomed - There wasn't much corduroy to ski yesterday but on hardpack i

wasn't so impressed. Once I got to about 30 (roughly) they started

gettin pretty squirrelly. I didn't take them much past that mainly

because my din was set way too low and they already felt like they were

about to fly off. heh but they were still able to hold an edge when

needed, though a little extra effort was also a factor.

Bumps - well every damn runout was bumpy yesterday. If there wasn't

some fresh snow on top you really had to work to control the skis. my

thighs were killin me by the end of the day.

Trees - Epic. That's all I really need to say. I was skiing the

rubies in the morning and they were actually quit comparable. Great

float, easy control and landing switch was not one bit of a problem.

The main difference was that I had to stay away from backseat or I'd

just slide out on my ass, I assume due to the rocker. They opened the

second half of our mountain around noon and that gave us that whole

side with two feet totally untracked. The rest of the guys were

complaining about the heavy snow but the Melees tackled it

wonderfully.

For a pow ski I'd say 10/10

For overall I'd say 8/10 due to the instability through the hardpack.

I will note though that the instability was not from the tips flopping

around. it was from the skis moving side to side over the snow from

lack of edge grip. All I might need to do is keep on an edge,

snowboard style or something like that.
