Rock music in ski videos....

WHY?

take Yeah Dude for example. some real dope skiing and amazing cinematography, but for at least 6 segments I would find myself having to hit MUTE and provide my own sound track or I straight up couldnt watch it anymore

i just dont get it

it's all subjective of course...I wish ski movie makers would do away with hip hop, and have indie, punk, and jazz soundtracks. of course most people might not agree with me, but i'm so tired of boring hip hop songs over and over.

Overall: not good
Street segments: NEVER!!!!!
But when it comes down to nice glacier ridding a nice and with piano or something that might work .... but in rare cases.

uhh... yea no shit. IDEA was an amazing movie and had an incredible soundtrack.... that wasn't "rock" music at all

what Im saying is, besides occasional shitty boring skiing shots and lifestyle, the main reason I will never buy an MSP, TGR or poorboyz movie is because they have the most gay fucking soundtracks ever

because it has a constant clean sounding beat that is what skiing is about to me and gets me pumped to wana go out and throw on a bandana, tee and start slaying shit with the most style possible.

"music is just music" thats a dumb statement. at least 50% of the appeal of any moving visual art unless it is suppost to be silent

im not against alternative music segments once in a while to switch it up (euro shit/IDEA type music/joke club songs etc) but for the most part HIP HOP is SKIING , subjective to what you like or not

yeah they actually sound terrible to my ears

im embarrassed to show pretty much any ski video to kids who don't ski besides Look it Up, Idea, wsk106, pop yer bottles, level 1 flicks , and a handful of AM movies

Yeah... I'm not an exclusive hip hop listener but that style of music is definitely king when it comes to skiing. Not the hyphy shit they use in a lot of edits, that actually kind of pisses me off unless it's in fun, but good hip hop with tight beats... ahh... nothing gets me more stoked on skiing. And as Adrian said, euro shit, reggae, and some other genres are OK on occasion but... yeah.

everyone has different taste in music so whatever the maker of a ski video likes is what he will use and if you don't like you have to deal it's just the way it is and besides you even said that you could just listen to your own tunes when watching it so yeah simple solution

i hated mike douglas' part in seven sunny days..purely because of the crappy screamo in the background

i like rap with skiing..or some decent chill stuff..chris stolz

i like crappy 80's songs too..like if the edit/movie is funny

rap is good but is in almost every edit it seems like.. there is so much other music out there.. why should skiing be limited to one genre! classic rock would be AMAZING to hear in some edits..

i think any types of music can be used really for an edit,

it just has to fit with the eidting, and what kind of riding, like street, park , or powder

yeah!!!

i wanna hear some weird fucked up music in ski movies

like boredoms

the blood brothers

jonbenet

hella

something intense

i want more indie/electronic

why is there no diversity in skiing or ski movies? i feel like every year i see only two different movies put out. the nimbus crew's vid and everything else.

i

am so sick

of fucking rap

you know why everyone uses it?

ITS FUCKING EASY TO EDIT TOO!

simple beats tell you exactly where to cut etc.

have you ever tried editing to punk or jazz or classical?

fucking hard man, and thats why people should give it a try. it makes segments not all look the fucking same. one example that comes to my mind is Blake Nyman's from the Levitation Project.

word,

hip-hop is good, but other styles too, I think what makes people don't like rock music (or any other genres) in ski flicks is that ,often, the editing is done badly.

and that guy who said that HIP HOP is SKIING ... WTF?

yeah hip hop is definately not skiing if it was you would hear rappers rapping about skiing instead of rapping about fat blunts and bitches they would be rapping about their dope new fat pow skis and theyre fks's mounted on them. I def like rap espiecally skiing to it and it does fit good in movies but so does rock you jsut have to find the right stuff.

agreed, love funk. i also agree with no rock music but i do like rap music occasionally. like others have said idea soundtrack is perfect and im liking the music in hunting yeti.

Can I direct your attention for a moment to my personal favorite segment ever. Not even a real segment, and not even skiing, but it simply has THE BEST vibe ever.

The first half, with Zeppelin's "No Quarter" playing. The 2nd half is what ended up being the real trailer for the movie, apparently; it took me FOREVER to find this online again.

Travis Rice - The Community Project trailer:

its a matter of opinion...calling a certain genre of music "gay" is stupid. not everyone gets amped on hip hop, and not everyone gets amped on rock. you can't please all viewers.

I love hip hop segments, they usually give such a good flow to it. I deffanalty would love to have an edit to a Sts9 song or the thievory corporation. Old school rock can work but songs like Rise Against in andreas's segment in Ski porn COMPLETLY wrecked it. The footage was probably some of the dopest stuff i have ever seen ever in my life but i find my self skipping the segment because i dont like how the song was used at all, wrong song wrong edit. Oh and I used to be really into punk and and kinda like rise against so its not just that i hate the song i just hat how it was used

fast, upbeat punk is about as rocky as i like, but it doesnt really matter, as long as the music flows with the skiing
