Road biking!!

i fucking hate my road bike, i have two nice old schwinns (paramount and peloton) but I like to ride the bike "trail" near my house (totally flat with gravel dust) and i get a flat tire every single time.

Wear a helmet. Also, you have a right to be on the road, but most people driving cars don't think the same thing. Always assume that you're either invisible, or people in cars dislike you.

hell yea, just got a road bike this summer. I try and ride 50 miles a week, definitely keeps my legs in shape for skiing. probably one of my better investments yet

talk to rockyhockey11187, hes my buddy and has road biked across the country and a bunch of other places, hes into long distance shit like that but im sure he could help you out with anything you need to know about road biking

i ride ~300 km a week on my road bike and another 40 km on my track bike commuting to school. If you want to build up leg muscle and cross train for skiing, cycling is one of the best ways.

cycling is fun. i am a cat 1. i don't race anymore though because it takes a shit ton of time and i'd rather do well at school, honestly.

troof. or you can get flashy neon attire but thats sorta lame. road biking in college towns isnt as bad cause their more aware of you.but like I said...lame flashy attire, it makes you more noticeable. hah

i always wear and helmet.and just to make the kids with the bad bikes jealous i finally conviced my dad today to give me his $3000 bianchi to me.
FUCK YEEEEE

if you actually raced cat 1 you wouldn't give a shit about school, seeing as basically any school in the world would flow you a full ride scholarship.

OP, riding on sidewalks is illegal in most states, so ride in the street, and make sure you're confident and don't ride right on the white line, because not only is it slippery, but it'll cause some asshole drivers to buzz you, which can cause you to eat shit. Learn to use your front brake properly, as it offers you the most stopping power, and should be the one you squeeze in emergencies, so be sure you know how to pull it suddenly without doing an endo over your bars. other tips, learn to shift properly to maintain whatever cadence you feel most comfortable in. also learn to pedal through turns. also, if you want to get into racing, learn how to properly ride in a group.

if you're cruising around with friends, never, ever ride side-by-side in the street. it's annoying as fuck to drivers trying to pas, and illegal in many cases. while getting away with running stop signs is usually normal, don't be surprised if a bored cop pulls you over, as it IS your responsibility to follow every rule a driver does, which includes stop signs.

if you want to ride for exercise you want to ride two different types of rides on a regular basis. endurance rides, and interval rides. my weekly riding schedule basically involves two 30 mile rides, one 50 mile ride, and two interval rides. Intervals basically involve alternating sprints and rest, to basically "shock" your muscles into constantly developing. I'd recommend finding a short hill near your house and sprinting up it, coasting down, and repeating until you are near the point of vomiting. then have two rest days.

lastly, if you need any help with components, maintenance, or anything else, don't hesitate to pm me, as I am a huge cycling nerd, and can recommend you anything for whatever price you are looking for, and can fix basically any issue you have with your bike.

oh, and its only my second year racing cross, but cyclocross is possibly the greatest/worst thing you can ever experience. I'd recommend entering at least one race.

I ride a raleigh with all columbus tubing, carbon fork, and a full record groupset with campy rims laced to campy hubs. jealous?

i wouldnt say that im just stoked to get this bike! i rode like a 12 pound piece-o-metal and its just awesome.
sorry. i kinda do sound like an ass i guess

I'll defend myself. I've been cycling since I was 4 years old. instead of doing all the sports like soccer and football that kids do, my parents had me ski and bike. cycling is one of my biggest passions in life, and I spend a fair bit of money on it. I don't have an outrageous bike, I bought components and a frameset that balance value with performance, and I ride my bikes every single day. unlike the trustfunders who have 13 thousand dollar builds with zipp wheels, that they ride with flat pedals and flip flops in the middle of the street, I ride a bike that performs well without being needlessly flashy. I also ride in a respectful manner to the cars and other riders on the road, unlike the vast majority of cyclists in colorado who think they own the road. if that makes me an asshole, then fuck it, but I don't think so.

and captain crunch icon, what bianchi are you riding?

no, you sound like an asshole because you have zero modesty. sweet, i bet your pretty good at riding. I bet you've got a vast amount of knowledge and that alone deserves respect in my mind because that shit is really cool. simply being able to fix a flat or maintain your own bike is pretty cool and it sounds like you are well beyond that, but there is no need for you to shove it in everyones throat like your way better than them as you have above. that is why you sound like an asshole, though I pass no actual judgment on whether or not your an asshole, you do kinda sound like one.

i have been riding since spring of '08. i joined my high school team then and then kinda just kept doing it because there is something about it that is addicting that i cant really explain i guess... you know, like when you come into that last lap, stetch, or mile and the adrenaline starts pumping and then you stand up to sprint with a crap load or other people around you down the final stretch. now that it fun.
