Road Bikes

My shop doesn't carry specialized. I can get that Giant for like 400-500 and I'm planning on building it, but with that frame but better parts.

Bianchi too. New Question. I've ridden that bike I originally posted and I liked it alot. What are some others to look at/ride that are under 2,000 bucks or so? From the companies i listed.

i was thinking about getting a road bike for this summer cause i'm recovering from surgery for a torn acl. what's a decent cheap bike?

if your shop carries scott, go with that...the giant you're looking at is a nice bike, but you can find much nicer for that price or less.

That bike looks pretty sweet. Giants are good and you could easily put tons of mileage on that bike. Really any roadbike that you are comfortable on is pretty good to get and since you get the discount i think you should go for it and then upgrade parts if you want. I have a diamondback expert that I've probaby put like 1,000 miles on in the past two summers and it still holds up super well.

Yeah i got a nice ass road bike. its a trek c1000, its got the shifters in the brakes, thats key. Do i hear a roadbike cult coming?

giants rock, i've heard good things. i love my canondale, it's a nice ride.

maybe we should have a road biking cult?

don't get the jamis dakar, get the giant trance. so much better. jamis' frames break and the trance pedals like a hardtail.

What are you doing working in a bike shop when you dont' know anything about bikes?

what shop, i live at stratton vt now and i have a friend in charlotte maybe ill stop in sometime. i guess theres going to be a new stage race sometime in june this year around rutland.

Oh, well go with anything giant. they're generally cheap and make really high quality, durable, stuff.

trek 1000 is a nice bike.. for the price. It's a very basic model with components any serious roadie would quickly upgrade, but its great if your just getting into the sport and aren't doing it all that seriosuly.

But if your looking at bikes check out Devinci bikes. They make some awsome frames and last year they had the option of going with either shimano parts or campy for the true road weenie, although that changed this year i think when they switched to just shimano.

you can make any full susp bike pedal like a hardtail, its called getting a fox pro pedal shock or a manitou swinger shock

K for anybody who can't comprehend what I've written so far in this thread:

I CAN GET A BIKE FROM THE FOLLOWING COMPANIES:

Bianchi

Giant

Scott

Jamis

and whatever other names i listed above.

We comprehend, we just dont care. You ask what bikes you should look at so we told you. Its not our fault you work at a shitty bike shop and most of those companies suck at making road bikes.

is that one of the best things to do for a knee injury? i was lookin for ways to build up strenght in the knees.

What year is your bike because my bike is last years model. Plus im not a big spender, the guy at the store cut me a deal. I'm not into ultralite bikes, dont got the skrilla. but i can tell you it is around 20 lbs. and the frame is a 63 (im a big dude)

don't talk untill you've ridden a trance. come back and talk to me once you have.

but, no, just putting a fox propedal or manitou swinger or 5th element or anything else shock on your bike won't make it pedal like a hardtail, it'll make it pedal better, but not like a hardtail. you need the design for antibob (let it be VPP, maestro, w/e) for it to truely pedal better.

And i still say go with the giant trance for a mountain bike and that giant road bike you mention earlier. I don't care what other people say who don't know shit, Giant makes great bikes that well designed and durable. The trance is a beast of a bike, you'll never break it unless you take huge drops, petals great, and it rails on the downhill. 70% of the bikes we sell at my shop are Giant Trances.

vpp's suck thats why giants suck. adn jamis sucks to, i have ridden them. what about specialized epic it rides just liek a damn hardtail. i would ride a cannondale with a swinger on it than ride a vpp anyday. or better yet if i only still had my demo 9

the thing is, everyone says check out this bike check out this bike....well every company that makes bikes (almost) makes a nice bike thats going to be just as light and fast as another company's bike. sometimes you can find a deal for a super nice bike for around 2000 dollars, but most of the time you have to be willing to spend a lot of money. i was lucky enough to get an amazing bike with a dura ace shimano component system, and a pair of used zip wheels that weigh 1200 grams.

the whole set up cost around 2000 dollars, and there are a lot of deals like that now, best place to look: catalogues

performace bike

colorado cyclist

bike nashbar

etc

but in your case, you work and a shop and can probably get a good deal. giant makes a great bike. but if you have connections, go for the scott, they make THE LIGHTEST bike on the market.

Wrong, you never said what bike from those companies, you just said 'what bike should i get'. Then half way down you listed all the companies that your store carries. If you really want to know what to get, go ride some of the bikes and see what bike feels the best and fits the best. A lot of companies make great bikes, the real difference between the bikes is the frame not the components. You can always change/upgrade derailers, brakes, rims, cranks and all that other good stuff. The thing that always stays the same is the frame, and that needs to fit. You want to know what bike you should buy? Buy the one that fits and stop asking people on a ski website about biking 'cause a large majority of people don't know what they are talking about on this website.

I tryed not being a douchebag, it didnt work, k?
